  1. Yes we certainly need defeders who can think and re-act quickly, especially if they can outpace most CCC wingers/midfielders!
  2. Apart from the lack of two experienced quick-thinking/moving fullbacks and a big ugly centre half.
  3. Although many posters on TSF seemto want Skacel back, JP was, I believe, quoted ages ago to the effect that Rudi was not in his plans and unless RL/MW have suddenly found a goldmine I can't see that changing. The fact that he would not sign for Ipswich and earn us c £1million will have hardly endeared him to the owners/management if true.
  4. Didn't people become non-persons in the old Soviet Union? Perhaps SMS is the new Kremlin? It is only a thought.
  5. I always enjoyed reading the Dandy, Beano, Wizzer and Chips......... .........but the Echo?
  6. That is a very good comment and I share that view. For two years I have not been supportive of Kelvin but this season he has been great for us. My apologies to Kelvin for doubting his ability to deliver the goods. The Management changes seem to have done the trick.
  7. Like he said.
  8. Call the Samaritans!
  9. Good message SD.
  10. IMO you have hit the jackpot with this post Saint 1977! It is all in the History and we suffer the consequences.
  11. Quite true; it is only a figure of SPEECH ( I am pedantic about spelling too!) and we all know what is intended in the expression. It does invite inflation, however, so someone might ask for 200% from our team tomorrow.
  12. I blame the weather. Oh, and the fact that we were narrowly beaten in three of our four League matches- in particular Blackpool at home. At least JP gave an honest verdict on that and we were not offered GB style feeble excuses. Also the two week gap and the televising of Saints has seemed to put the dampers on us in recent years.
  13. After the last few years, it is hardly surprising that many saints supporters are so pessimistic. Lets hope the forwards find a goalscoring touch and we beat QPR by two clear goals to cheer us all for one week at least.
  14. Was our "Improved" offer on deadline day more than 19s/6d. If so, this could have infringed our Bank's rules.:smt048
  15. I am not sure that "Cheaters" is the right word, but I am not surprised that the names of Branfoot and Askham appear so often on this thread list of people deserving of opprobrium from Saints fans. In my opinion, the whole Board from that era deserve more criticism than RL. (No, I am not a "Lowe Luvvie!)
  16. Yes, but in the circumstances it is sort of an honorary suburb of Southampton, just a bit north. A very interesting thread, LSC! Let us hope for some wins soon to boost everyones morale.
  17. Agreed, Dubai Phil, you have said it right there. Welcome Anthony and hope your career flourishes at last under the sublime influence of Jan, Mark and company.
  18. This could be our new motto; except the new team of Jan and his merrie men may well have rid us of that hoodoo!
  19. You make some good points here Right sider and of course even Arsenal have to balance their books. Bye the way, I would be very sorry if Scooby got banned. I always log off with a big smile after reading his posts and the vitriolic responses too!
  20. What he said! This is going to be a long season and after a stylish win over a Derby (with a lacklustre team and management-remind you of any team last two years?) side that could easily have scored a couple against us, we need to be cautious. Still I reckon the future really is looking bright, so thanks to NP for his efforts and Stern even more for the goal that saved our skins. Now the only thing is to back Jan and his team.
  21. Very true TDD. Another of your very perceptive posts getting to the core of the situation.
  22. I could not agree more. Even so, it is nice to read/ hear what other people think and say. I was just narked because because we were ignored. Mind, over the past three or four years that would probably have been best.
  23. We are all used to mediocre coverage on "The Championship," Meridien, and in the national press regarding Saints, I think. Nevertheless, I was surprised at the total lack of a mention on the early morning news bulletins on Solent Sunday 25th. At 6.00 am it was all Bournemouth, including an interview. At 7.00 it was some Olympic sing along. At both 8.00 and 9.00 it was all about a power boat race from Cowes to Torquay and back. (Hardly, I believe, a mass interest sport- more an opportunity for people with more money than sense to add to their carbon footprint!) Now I realise that it was only a win against lowly Derby, but if we had lost I reckon they would have made a feature of it. Had another South coast side won their first away match in Months no doubt a report on every hour and HR would have made a soundbite at least! I M O it was a poor show:( Yes it is a silly time to be about;)
  24. Absolutely right! If he is not good enough to play, send him down to clean the toilets instead. That should encourage him to train harder!!:)
  25. To rock the boat with new managers now would be ridiculous and I endorse both of your comments. There seems to be one problem; if we cannot rid the club of unwanted players "not in the plans" but expensive to keep, I imagine that funds might be raised by selling some we want/ought to keep.
