  1. Not one mention of the 'bus or the building. Nor any new signings suggested today.
  2. What a great start to the season. A real battle in the last half an hour today; how many times in the past few years we would have capitulated? Well done Saints defence!
  3. Midland fans have short journeys in any direction. Coming South from Leeds, Newcastle etc must be like coming on holiday to the Sunny South!
  4. Agree with this:lol:. Surely the poll should have a space for Rodrigues and maybe Michael Owen . Or any two from four?
  5. Is Martin really the "understudy" for Fonte, as he is right footed and played on the left today? Fonte has looked uncomfortable on the left flank in the past.
  6. Did you mean "laid?" St Garret's post made me think that.

Does n't Ken D. live in Portugal for some sort of Tax Relief?
  8. Please be careful with such original thinking! That would be real competition for places. I like your idea.
  9. I was also disappointed to find the rumours thread missing yesterday evening. It has been one of the few threads on this site worth looking at all Summer. Even if it had reached umpteen pages, nobody was obliged to wade through from page one. I only ever started with "Yesterday," even if I had not looked for a week. It seems a very selfish decision to delete a thread enjoyed by many because a minority of members or registered users are too self centered to ignore a thread they are not interested in. There are of course, societies where books are burnt, because Authorities don't like them. Are we moving in such a direction? I often disagree with Hypo's comments and his tone but I am sorry that he has got himself banned because he was (nearly) always interesting!
  10. Well pleased! This is a real "Quality Signing," and well worth the (agonising) wait. Just love the video clips, even if they only show an edited snippet. Congratulations to our Management team on this one. Nice to know that NA does attract the top players to SMS.
  11. Thanks for your well reasoned post. Absolutely have to agree with you as so much speculation in the last two years has proven unfounded. Your point 3 and TDD's point4 also ring true.
  12. Happy Birthday Ron. A real hero in the Red and White and the best Centre Forward ever in my opinion. Always a joy to watch at the Dell!
  13. I suppose that Connolly will consider the money offered as much as the playing time on offer? At his age and with his injury record, a role as some kind of "super-sub" could have its attractions.
  14. I reckon that the downward slope really started with failure to replace the injured M Svennson and the ageing Claus.as well as selling Bridge. It has been a long downwards slope until Marcus and NC came in. Last season stopped the rot and we even collected a trophy at Wembley. What a fantastic season this has been for Saints. Well Done to everybody who has contributed to the promotion effort! (Especially Nigel.) :-)
  15. This is a valid point and I expect NC has a big say as well. Today, though, is a wonderful occasion and all credit to Nigel for the achievement and the determination not to get too excited until next Saturday at 5o'clock. I liked his generous (deserved) praise for Andy Crosby and Dean Wilkins too! Nigel is a Class Act; IMO.
  16. You are so right with this. There needs to be a convincing Saints win on Monday to prevent serious damage to finger nails, blood pressure and stress levels amongst us. Good win today: should set us up nicely for Monday.
  17. I have happy memories of 1960, when we last escaped from tier three. Fond memories of going to Dean Court to see Reeves, Paine, Sydenham and co beat Boscombe as they were known then! But, I am still haunted by the failed promotion bid of 48-49! Please dont count chickens just yet, boys.
  18. Well, we are all on the 'bus/ in the buildingtogether, so it is as simple as that! I love it!:-)
  19. I share your optimism. This is surely our year! May the force be with us.( Not the fuzz, silly me)
  20. There are still a few of us who still bear the scars of the Spring of 1949: never too hopefull of the Saints! We had been 8 points ahead since about Christmas. If I remember correctly, we played West Ham, West Brom and Newcastle in a busy end to the season and failed to get the points needed. My Dad took me to the Dell and he too was convinced the Directors did not relish the costs of playing in the old Division One. It was strange that in those days an injured player was left to hobble along the wing; sort of out of harm's way, but to be a nuisance to the opponents.
