Good point, this was the Scotland team that lost 1-0 to England at Hampden Park in 1982: Alan Rough, George Burley, Danny McGrain, Alan Hansen, Allan Evans, David Narey, Kenny Dalglish, Graeme Souness, Joe Jordan, Asa Hartford, Alan Brazil, Now that is a pretty damned good side ! For the record the England team was none too shabby either: Peter Shilton [Nottingham Forest] Trevor Brooking [West Ham United] Terry Butcher [ipswich Town] Stephen Coppell [Manchester United] Kevin Keegan [southampton] Paul Mariner [ipswich Town] Mick Mills [ipswich Town] Bryan Robson [Manchester United] Kenneth Sansom [Arsenal] Philip Thompson [Liverpool] Raymond Wilkins [Manchester United]

Probably Jan 1978 as I think that was the only time we were in the same division for quite a few years, it was 1-1 and Steve Williams scored. Went on a "football special " train, it had no lighting so sat in darkness all the way home !!

1972 away at Crystal Palace. We won, 3-2 I think ?

Lol, just a shame Ireland lost !

I heard he is keen to sign a new contract asap so I'm sure he'll be staying which is good for St Helens and RL in general.

The thought never crossed my mind !!

Yep, it was a Friday evening. Rare in those days.

I was there but luckily travelled up by car with my Dad, Mum and brother and avoided all the trouble but what a dire game it was.

As for the original question I missed 2 games, Villa away as I thought we had no chance and WBA at home which was a real pain but I got blinking well stuck in Portsmouth of all places as I was studying there at the time. Bradford was indeed a nightmare aside from the result, the idiots let fans in on the day and I remember a mob of Leeds fans turning up and causing a lot of trouble. Oh and walking to the ground was like crossing wasteland !

Mention of that is infractable I believe !!! Some of our players didn't even know the rules and thought after 90 minutes we had won on away goals at 5-1. No such luck, 30 more minutes of suffering, somehow I forced myself to stay to the end. Luckily I had only to travel back to Uxbridge.

Lol, now I understand, we are talking football and not Rugby !! SS1 it is indeed, the RU between Ireland and Australia is on tomorrow on BBC2. At least I know I'm not going mad now !!! Too much sport to keep track of, RL ( must watch), RU, Football and Cricket to name but 4 !
-
TBH I thought Ireland were playing Australia !! I think it's on BBC 2 tomorrow at 2.30.

Well I did tip Fourpenny Lane in the 8.00 at Dundalk on the main tipping thread which won, you should know the big meetings are enjoyable to watch but decent priced winners normally hard to find!

No surprise, the weather forecast for Southern England is awful. There must be some doubt about our game v Brighton on Sunday being on ?
-
I like the sound of that, I hope Tahir does well at Warwickshire except v us of course !! By the way WS thanks for keeping me updated on Hants, news travels slowly in Hertfordshire !!
-
Yep, they sure do lol !
-
And thanks to DL England win by one run ! Great innings by Morgan, getting ever more impressed with him in one day matches.
-
Rain stopped play, SA one run behind on DL method !

I agree about the financial implications but having the Ashes on terrestial TV does make it much easier to watch. I remember in 2005 dashing back and forth from my desk at work to the canteen especially on the final day and but for it being on CH4 I would not have been able to watch the final overs live. Of course if you have sky player and can watch at work then there isn't a problem, a lot of people can't do that. I'm not sure what would be a reasonable solution though in terms of who decides I believe under current law (Part 4 of the Broadcasting Act 1996) the Secretary of State can draw up and publish a list of protected events. Before doing so he must first take into account the views of broadcasters, sports rights holders and regulators though there is no vote as far as I'm aware.
