I'll help you. Zaha, Benteke, Sako, Cabaye and Townsend - better than Long, Redmond, Ward-Prowse - and arguably better than Tadic.

Pellegrino out? Or are we resigned to keeping him?
austsaint replied to SaintJackoInHurworth's topic in The Saints
I think you will continue to hear discontent. If we start to climb the table it will be in spite of Pellegrino, not because of him. -
IT helps that they have 3-4 very good attacking players and two excellent CBs; even if they are both injured at the moment. Some credit to Hodgson though; and the Chairman for decisive action.
-
Don't think that's right - his absences from 1st team duties were often down to Klopp not selecting him. Would he be any more injury prone than Austin? I don't think so. Given our situation, I would have welcomed him here - he's got class and he's clinical.

There's a dispiriting truth in what you write. I see some hope for more zip and intensity if the following players start (excluding the back 4 or 5).....Boufal, Tadic, Lemina, Hojbjerg, Romeu, Gabbiadini and Carillo....(LOng an impact sub as a wide runner).
-
Very pleased for J-Rod yesterday. Still think the Club did the right thing in selling although even with his post-injury form I would have opted to offload Long before him.
-
You've answered your own question! I agree with you, if only Reed could see the problem. Let's pray for a win! I'm an atheist by the way!!!
-
That's what I was getting at. In a game you absolutely have to play your best attacking player - he (MP) probably won't.
-
Do you think he did take Boufal off to save him for Brighton, or because he often subs him, even when playing well?
-
I didn't see the game - wife's 50th - but one thing which amazes me about Pellegrini is his apparent failure to get the best out of our really good players like Boufal and Lemina, even Gabbiadini. He doesn't seem to play them enough, leave them on, encourage them, put his arm round them, Klopp style or build their confidence.
-
From my vantage point McCarthy is an infinitely better keeper than FF. Excuses were made about post-injury and bad coaching but in the end you have to trust your eyes, Forster is a poor GK.
-
Yes, if he does that, and helps to keep us up. he will become something of a legend in my book.
-
You make a good point with your last sentence. Ideally you want someone wide with pace who can exploit the space and deliver a good cross (aerial or across the carpet). The closest we have is Bertrand - perhaps Tadic from the left, although he's not particularly quick and Boufal, who I still think is better with a licence to be more central. Cedric has every wide, fast attribute but his crossing is hit and miss. I can see why JWP is played out there for the delivery and goal attempts when he hustles into the box; what you give up is the lack of real speed and width, and marginal defensive cover.

This is what should happen in the next 48 hours - provided Silva wants the job. Chances of it happening? Remote.
-
While I don't want to see Glasgow's momentum curve reappear - Swansea look like a team who will kick on after tonight.
-
I think you are underrating them and overrating us.
-
True, but I'd much rather Swansea get beaten and maintain the gap. They are certainly well organised tonight, not sitting as deep as we often have when under the cosh - and they have some counter attacking threat.
-
Maybe he would have - yet against Watford JWP's first goal was a deflection which fell kindly and he had time and took 2 or three touches before "passing" the ball in the net - good finish. Boufal's opportunity was quite different, he ran on to the pass and had defenders around him and pressing; took one touch and had his shot blocked. Perhaps he should have tried to lob the defender.
-
Your point was perfectly illustrated yesterday! Romeu, Lemina and Hoj more than matching the Spurs midfield - and there was more press than usual.
-
No, in my book Reed get's a belated chance to redeem himself by booting Pellegrino, appointing someone like Silva and getting 2 or 3 quality players in. If that happens and we are still relegated then Reed will be canned for dithering but he will get some credits for doing something decisive at the 11th hour.
-
It would give the majority fan base (and probably the players) a huge boost, particularly with a couple of quality signings. Would Silva want to come here though? Would he want to bounce straight back into work so soon after todays events? Big Fat Sam is probably feeling a bit less secure in the Toffee job after this announcement.
-
That's a fair comment Dodds, even Cortese acknowledged Reed's role in the Club's rise. He's royally stuffed up since Koeman though.
-
I'm the last person to leap in and defend Glasgow, but the common denominator in the past two seasons decline involves Les Reed - he has to be mentioned when you try to work out how the Club has fallen so far.
-
You would rather sink into the Championship with Pellegrino?
