Whilst I agree that the example of an employee leaving one job for another one that pays more money is a rational and valid comparison the truth is that football is an irrational and passionate beast. Therefore, for many people, a more pertinent comparison is that of a wife leaving her husband for another bloke who has more money.

With next to no chance of winning this game any adverse weather could, for the first time this season, actually do us a favour –albeit at the expense of denying us possible batting points. If we get a full day’s play then I reckon today could turn out to be pivotal for our Div 2 campaign: we need our batsmen to show some solid application – this is exactly the kind of situation for which we signed Smith. Worcs have turned out to be a much better team than I anticipated pre-season.

So who was Saints best ever penalty taker

Yep, I’ve been worrying about this too Bear. As to FF’s question, Le Tiss just ahead of SRL for me. -
How about: Mopo is a c*nt (translate) Mopo is a c*nt (translate) Ee aye addio (translate) Mopo is a c*nt (translate) Alternatively, the f*cker can translate it himself.

The World Cup is off to Russia and Qatar (probably); Lallana and Shaw are off to Liverpool and Man Utd (probably). The Beautiful Game: a pitch, a ball, two nets and lots and lots of filthy lucre.

Yep, and before that they become teenagers

Hey Minty, now that you’ve brought peace and harmony to this thread, don’t suppose you could pop over to Brazil and have a quiet word with Lallana could you?

Did a quick google search and found this article detailing some other premier league training centres and costs to build, although I did notice that other sources gave the cost of Spurs’ training centre as £30M as opposed to this link’s £45M. http://www.footballfancast.com/football-blogs/have-spurs-and-city-spent-their-money-at-the-right-time

Speaking as a layman on training grounds this facility looks very good to me; I can well imagine it would impress potential signees. Can anyone tell me how it compares to facilities at other clubs, i.e. can we now lay claim to having one of the best training grounds in the country, Europe, world etc?

You have just been appointed Southamptons new manager

First day things-to-do list: 1. Apologise to Dalek for not being Hoddle. 2. Tell the mods to put Ron Davies on the banner. 3. Plunder the HCDAJFU thread for ideas about which players to sign. 4. Look them up on google. 5. Hold my head in my hands and weep like a schoolgirl. -
Depends on how much he’s willing to pay us – on last night’s performance I’d want at least £500K per match.

Sadly, I suspect that’s the end of Carberry’s England career; I feel desperately disappointed for him. Having waited so long for his chance it seemed to me that he tightened up with nerves: some of his dropped catches and even some of his ground fielding was way below his normal high standards. To be fair, his batting against the Australians was no worse – indeed, a lot better – than some of the usual suspects, and outside of the tests he produced some very decent knocks. It’s just a shame he couldn’t have turned one of his good starts in the tests into a big score in order to reduce the pressure he was under. Also, I think the article he did criticising the England management – justified or not – only served to increase that pressure. Bit surprised that Vince wasn’t picked for the latest England squad; although, for Hampshire’s sake I’m not disappointed. To be honest, considering all that’s going on with Saints at the moment, I’ve given up wanting our players to get picked for England.

I reckon Clyne would have been a shoe-in for right-back if he’d been a regular for us this season.
-
Me too – even though it feels a bit like watching an ex-girlfriend with another bloke.

Hants – and probably Worcestershire – denied victory by the weather. Very pleased with the way we’re playing at the moment. I’m guessing Carberry will replace Gatting for our next Div 2 match.

I know what you’re saying Alps, but, at the end of the day, I’m more concerned about what’s good for the club rather than what’s good for Lallana. I want to start next season with a squad of players one hundred percent committed to Southampton FC – probably wishful thinking in this day and age, unfortunately.

This is starting to remind me of house sales that fall through as a result of people boxing themselves into corners through misplaced pride and sheer bloody-mindedness. My gut instinct is for Saints to hold out for as large a fee as possible, but my head is cautioning against starting next season with a player that doesn’t want to be here – that’s no good for anyone. Until the past week or so I was fully expecting Lallana to have a good WC, but now I’m not so sure – I doubt he’s fully focused. Also, if he has got a problem with his stamina – he rarely completes 90 mins – then I would think this is likely to be exposed in the heat and ferment of a WC in Brazil. Will the WC enhance or deflate his value? In short, I don’t envy our board having to call this one.

I’m waiting for the movie to come out. Four Sheddings and a Funeral. The stars are not wanted now: put out every one; Pack up the moon and dismantle the sun; Pour away the ocean and sweep up the wood. For nothing now can ever come to any good. :(:( RIP our dreams.
