Is the twist Russ joining Leicester?
-
There is a cringey footy chant in there somewhere and I’m all for it.

Looking back at the previous season, the only parachute payment club that didn’t get promoted had the manager with the promotion experience… As Ralph once said, if you want a guarantee, buy a washing machine.

Dyche would be a logical appointment in our situation, not sure he’d come though and his football style isn’t widely loved. FWIW, if Rohl is keeping us waiting I’m glad the club are being proactive to get things in place ASAP. Still feels like a risky appointment but he has more experience than many think given his age. Does appear to be highly rated and comes across well. The flexible approach to games appeals given the stubborn tactics we have experienced under the last 6 managers.

Slightly relevant stat on Manchester United: 0.92 - Ruben Amorim has won 24 points in 26 Premier League games, a points per game ratio of 0.92. This is lower than Paul Jewell's Premier League points per game (0.94), who managed 24 winless games at Derby when they finished on 11 points in 2007-08. Relatively speaking, have they had a worse season than us vs expectation?

Some random twitter speculation on Rohl to Saints.
-
More on Palace interest in Rohl here, Fulham also get a mention. Maybe we should have just paid the release clause in December!
-
Fulham might lose Silva to Spurs and Palace might lose Glasner to Leipzig, going by recent reports. So they could be looking for replacements. Wonder if McKenna would be of interest to either too?

Have the club paid off the 80 million pound loan ?
goodymatt replied to Andrew Watson's topic in The Saints
Maybe selling us now makes some sense, right now we are better value and there is a good chance to go straight back up. If we succeed then great but the value will be higher and less interesting to buyers as survival will still be very challenging. If we fail to go up, that loan and reducing parachute payments will strangle us more and more. -

So we paid some off, now it’s back up to £80m on better terms. Explains why the rumoured club sale value is a bit lower than market value? If we get stuck in the championship this loan could become a big problem. -
Leicester getting a points deduction would be most welcome. Birmingham are going to be strong (their owner claims they will be as strong as the parachute teams next season on commercials). Ipswich and Leicester will have the parachute payments and even Wrexham will be an interesting one to see how they do. At least one of Sunderland or Sheffield United will remain too. Won’t be easy, especially given the bad momentum we have, the high number of changes to players, new manager and now the uncertainty on our ownership. Russ managed the chaos pretty well last time, yes we finished 4th but 87 points is not a poor return and he got us up in the end. Leicester will do well with him IMO.

What/who is Fulthorpe?
-
I liked Russell and it was a shame he ultimately failed this season and had to go. You just know he will go to our direct rivals and finish above us, it’s the Southampton way.
-
I don’t like this at all.
-
So based on what you’ve heard, we are 100% up for sale and Solak wants out ASAP?
-
How do you know this?
-
I don’t have a problem with Spors interviewing whoever he wants, provided he ultimately makes a good appointment.
-
Wouldn’t be a surprise if all of Stewart’s injuries have reduced his pace. He looked pretty quick at Sunderland.
-
We both got promoted last time we were both in a mess. Expect us both to be playoffs minimum next season regardless of manager selection and points deductions. The gap is big in the PL but Luton aside the gap against the other champ teams is just as big. Look at the points totals for the top 3 again this year.

Leicester expected to replace RvN this summer, shortlist appears to be Lee Carsley, Danny Rohl and Russell Martin. Would Rohl choose us? Carsley not mentioned for us to date, is he a viable option? I wouldn’t like to see Russ battling against us for promotion next season but it would be a good option for him to get back into management.
