Interesting watching his highlights from his first season at WHU before he got Nuno’d. Im sure I’ve read some posters saying his corners aren’t very effective, plenty of assists for WHU from them and even scored one. After this we have a 2 year period of not seeing enough of him to judge but I can’t help but feel he is going to be very effective at this level where set pieces can be very important. Much more of a goalscoring threat with late runs than any of of existing CMs too.

Not ITK but he was on £110/120k per week in the PL apparently and they had a 50% relegation clause. So would have been on £55-60k/week at WHU for this season. i believe Azaz is now our top earner at £50k/week, you’d expect JWP will be on similar. FLW think he was on £50k for this season at WHU.

Quite a few clubs showing interest including PL Hull and Coventry, so feels unlikely but you never know.

I wonder if any options or obligations to buy exist in these loan offers

How much is the fee?

Always a good sign when fans of the selling clubs or other teams in the league don’t have a bad word to say. I like this signing and his interview was very confident and supports the mentality monster comment. His heart is bigger than anyone else’s and wants to win 100% of his duels, great mindset.

Under Moyes at WHU he did well, his time at Forest and WHU under Nuno has been a disaster, he just hasn’t wanted to use him. Thats how he ends up having to go on loan to Burnley. It’s hard to tell how good he actually is right now as Nuno has blocked a lot of his playing time due to personal reasons, rather than playing ones. That works both ways, he may have dropped off a cliff but running more than anyone on the pitch vs City suggests that’s unlikely. He doesn’t owe us any sell on value, we got £30m for him, pure profit as an academy player and he’s being signed now for a nominal fee (less than £1m). The wages are going to be near the top of our squad, Azaz is on the same as he is reportedly on at WHU. He won’t be earning any more than the other key players. Our young players can learn from him, we’ve seen in the season so far they are not ready to step in and be starters, so we’ve gone and got a proven PL player that should be more than capable at this level. I think he will do well for us this season. I’d have preferred to sign a Jordan James or similar but JWP is not a disaster signing as you imply.

Just read an interesting point about Larin signing this summer as a 31 year old. Prowsey the same age and always been very strong on the fitness and stamina. His dead balls will be good for Larin too. Free kick winner in the derby in front of the Northam please, thank you.

Where’s this quote of him saying Portsmouth winning the fa cup was the best day of his life? I’ve not heard that one before. Being a STH or mascot as a kid isn’t always the child’s choice. Pretty sure he’s kissed our badge a few times in celebrations etc. Played over 400 times for us over a 20 year period. I don’t think he’s the full blown skate you are making him out to be.

We aren’t asking him to be captain and main man for a mid table PL side, he will be 2nd or 3rd choice CM in a championship playoff chasing side, which is a completely different level. Look at how well players like Matt Grimes have done in the Championship. He’s good enough. My worry is about not having a Charles profile of player, not that JWP isn’t good enough for what we need.
