CONFIRMED - Virgil Van Dijk joins on Five Year Deal
SuperSAINT replied to Brizzie Saints's topic in The Saints

I had a little look at "attacking midfield / wingers" we've been linked with this summer, in the event of needing a rabbit out of the hat... -- Rafa Silva -- Juan Quintero -- Ola John -- Matt Phillips -- Quincy Promes -- Ondrej Duda -- Nathan Redmond -- Albert Rusnak -- Max Gradel -- Dennis Praet * MLG Pedantic disclaimer: I'm aware some of these may have moved already.

Funnily enough, I saw Oliver Kay of the Times tweet this shortly after the Pedro news came out: Oliver Kay @OliverKayTimes Predicted consequence of #MUFC "refusing to overpay" (ahem) for Pedro: they MASSIVELY overpay for someone else in an attempt to make amends. Lets hope that if Mane is to go, we get maximum ££'s out of it (and somehow have a great replacement lined up)

Ugh. It's like a re-hashed hybrid of the Clyne/Morgan deal.

UNITED BID FOR MANE We just brought you the news that Manchester United were considering an approach for Sadio Mane, and now we can confirm that United have in fact submitted a bid to Southampton for the midfielder, according to Sky sources. We understand the transfer offer was lodged last week and at this stage of the proceedings the status of the deal is unclear.

SONG'S WEST HAM DEAL 'IN PLACE' West Ham co-owner David Sullivan has confirmed that the club have agreed a deal to sign Alex Song from Barcelona. "We have a deal in place with Alex Song subject to a medical," Sullivan told KUMB Podcast. "If the medical is OK, we'll take him. "He's injured at the moment, which is something you've got to weight up. But we've got until September 1 to make a decision."

Really?! - Unless he's got a clause of some sort I can't imagine that's possible.
-
I've said for a while I think Mane could eventually get up to the £30m price tag, but I have to take the view that it's too soon for a move there IMO. Possibly similar to Memphis a year prior to his big move.

Worthy of it's own thead? http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/teams/manchester-united/11812248/Manchester-United-launch-bid-for-Southampton-forward-Sadio-Mane.html

DONS SIGN POYET MK Dons have signed West Ham midfielder Diego Poyet on loan until the end of the season. ^ Great signing for them.

The agent who wanted a ridiculous fee for himself prior to Vic signing that nearly scuppered the deal?

Gordon Simpson @gordonsimpson Wanyama on Van Dijk: "I think he's a good player, so I think he'd do well. He has everything to be a top player." #saintsfc -
I might be alone here, but I've always really liked Pedro and thought £21m was a relative bargain.

Any idea what Wolves paid for him?

CANARIES BID FOR AFOBE Norwich have made a substantial offer for Wolves striker Benik Afobe, according to Sky sources. The 22-year-old has a contract with the Championship club until the summer of 2018.

NORWICH ENTER KOULIBALY RACE Norwich City have entered the race to sign Napoli centre-back Kalidou Koulibaly, according to Sky Italia. Southampton have already showed their interest for the player, although we understand a formal offer is yet to be submitted. Norwich have not lodged their interested, with our colleagues in Italy reporting the Canaries are offering €11millions plus bonuses to bring the former France U20 international to Carrow Road

Guardian sport @guardian_sport Bournemouth weighing up move for Sunderland’s Jermain Defoe. http://www.theguardian.com/football/2015/aug/18/bournemouth-jermain-defoe-sunderland?CMP=share_btn_tw

SAINTS’ KOULIBALY INTEREST Southampton are interested in Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly, according to Sky sources. However, a former offer is yet to be made. We understand Southampton's primary target remains Celtic defender Virgil van Dijk, but that move is dependent on whether the Scottish champions qualify for the Champions League group stages.

This possible deal got a mention on the transfer round-up on SSN just after 6pm.
-
Happy to be wrong, but they nearly get everything wrong. He's been playing for United anyway, hasn't he?
-
I agree. I'd be tempted to hold onto him until Clasie is back and up to speed.
-
Hull might well play him a lot more after their exodus.

Proof that players can be involved in deals but still play : Mangala (played today) rumoured to be going to Valencia on loan as part of Otamendi deal to City.
