If he was a few years older and had been coming through the ranks when we were in the lower leagues he would have been a regular no doubt but we've been blessed with watching some very good fullbacks in recent years in Clyne, Shaw, Cedric and Bertrand and I don't see Targett getting anywhere near as good as any of them.

The problem with that is, as yet, we've done nothing to address the issues in the squad, from last season, this summer so I'm not to sure why people expect this season to be overly different to last.

Yes super loyal signing a new long term and assumingly better paid contract. We can all praise his loyalty if Liverpool coming calling next season and Mat publicly proclaims he'd rather stay at saints.

As the last pre-season game I'm expecting to see what MoPe thinks is his best line up set out to play in his chosen formation and style (whatever that is) rather than lots of changes and players shoe horned into odd positions to get game time. Hopefully this game will give us more of an idea what to expect in the opening weeks of the season.
