Well technically the club could know force him (though most probably wouldn't) but it still gives the club more control over the next few seasons on when he goes.

No argument from me. At the point in the season Koeman employed that system though we were a defensive mess and we needed to sort it out. I wouldn't want us playing that system all the time but it was, with hindsight, a brilliant call from Koeman that changed our season (along with the return of Fraser Forster).

Doesn't matter what he says fans have been demanding the club tie players down to longer contracts. They have now tied down one of our best players to a six year contract what more do you want the club to do?

TBF the five at the back was a bit of a master stroke by Koeman that saved our season some what.

Club can't win can they? If players contracts run down the club are at fault for letting it happen and not giving players longer contracts. So the club sign up a class player to a longer contract and it's all PR

Would make sense. As we found out pochs game plan works best against teams who come to play. Teams that sat deep and counter attacked quickly always seemed cause him problems.
