  1. That's the way I'm looking at it get a draw against these teams and we've taken 4pts out of 6pts against them lets face a point away at Westham or boro is a good result. It would be nice to pick up up a few more away points against lower half sides mind you.....
  2. We've beaten most of thetop sides at SMS so if we can take a point from them away we will do fine
  3. I reckon if people are holding out for that in january they might be quite dissapointed...
  4. So chances are it will be none of them and end up being someone no one has ever heard off.....
  5. I'd like to say us as I think he has something to offer....................but I reckon he'll go somewhere in London but not in our league so Charlton
  6. Clubs don't tend to loan out strikers of the quaility everyone thinks we need, It's debatable if a PL youngster or an old has been some club want to get rid of would have added much to the team. There's always a chance you can get lucky with a good loan, like Jos, but more than likely there wasn't any decent strikers on offer (becuase if they were decent clubs wouldn't want to loan them)
  7. What the Guly with seven goals to his name the same as an established championship striker like Chopra and only a couple behind the likes of Billy Sharp............ TBF I don't care if he looks lazy if he keeps scoring Lambert Southampton 15 McCormack Leeds 10 Andrews Ipswich 9 Henderson Millwall 9 Sharp Doncaster 9 Wood Birmingham 9 Austin Burnley 8 Davies Barnsley 8 Fryatt Hull 8 Jutkiewicz Coventry 8 McCann Peterborough 8 Snodgrass Leeds 8 Chopra Ipswich 7 Cole West Ham 7 Guly Southampton 7
  8. I like this one from one of the skate forums In fact there was a much better line to follow, which was Lambert and his duel with Rocha; for example, "Lambert is needed in the box, not out on the left" should have been "Lambert is being forced into unproductive areas by Rocha's intelligent positional play" which becomes a discussion on the relative roles of physique and intelligence in the game of football; i.e., the battle between brain and brawn (result today Brawn 1 Brain 0). Ermmmm yes Lambert never goes out wide ever........It was all Rocha's fantastic defending..............
  9. I agree with the first bit -people have the right to act any (legal) way they like at a game. Having a go at people at the game from your front room is plainly stupid. The second bit holds no water though it was a live TV match so people who weren't there still got to see Guly play in fact they probably got a better view than you did with extra replays for good measure. My own thoughts are Guly played like he does every week if he scored one of his two chances everyone would be calling him a hero he didn't so now he's the scapegoat.....
  10. How about this guy from Irish PL. Rory Donnelly is 19 years old, 6.2 and a striker. Quite a few teams are interested in signing him including Liverpool and Swansea apparently. Looks like he has an eye for goal though I have no idea what level Irish football is at. BBC link below including video off some of his goals. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/16237980.stm
  11. Ahhh yes like opal fruits and starbursts.......
  12. Yeah, I thought Fox was iffy in the first half better in the second, he doesn't seem to like getting forward (like Richardson) but opts to ping it long most of the time which don't end up finding anyone.
  13. Thats the crux of it. The problem with threads like this is people assume that the players they've highlighted want to come here, are easily in our price range (despite having no idea what our price range is), the parent club want to let them go etc etc. then when said players aren't brought in people get all upset that the club has no ambition. No one is going to complain about us getting in good quaility players but it has to be right for the club. Getting back to the OP I do like the look of Adomah at Brizzle city and Matt Phillips at Blackpool both would add something to the team IMO. From watching a bit of Europa footie I also like Nathan Redmond from Birmingham though at 17 maybe not what we're looking for right now.
  14. Wow were are you living? the 1980s........ You get used to it. I was reading some sunday red top yesterday morning (forget which one) that had nice piece about Lallana wanting to get revenge for the 4-1 drubbing in the FA cup a couple of seasons back that was played at fratton park:? Unless you're a big four side the press don't seem to give a rats arse
  15. Game stats are interesting we were blatantly the better team in fact those stats make us look like the home side. With better finishing we should have one this game easily. Though everyone would have loved the win I think we should take heart that we went to Fratton and outplayed the skates on their home patch and our boys stood up to be counted. Possession Portsmouth 42% Southampton 58% Attempts on target Portsmouth 4 Southampton 9 Attempts off target Portsmouth 3 Southampton 5 Corners Portsmouth 2 Southampton 5 Fouls Portsmouth 13 southampton 9
  16. Never thought we would be top of the league for one week let alone most of the 1st half of the season. Considering my expectations at the start of the season I couldn't be happier. The only problem is that having done so well a lot of peoples expectations have gone up which is building up pressure among the surpporters The crowd at SMS seem far more edgy and quick to get on the players backs than they did at the start of the season.
  17. Claridge is the only one interested in anything below PL with the knowledge to back it up.....Shearer blatantly had no clue about saints or the FL just trotted out cliches about Lambert (clearly the only player he had even heard of on the saints team)
  18. Fair enough I had discounted Sharp becuase it seemed he wasn't interested in moving here (would rather have him than Manyard) but your explaination makes sense. I suppose from a players point of view we are now much more attractive than we were in the summer given our league postion (a real shot at PL next season). On the down side clubs will likely try to and demand more for the players in January (no doubt Donny will want more for Sharp now than they did in the summer) Wouldn't be surprised if we do sign a striker if it's someone totally out of the blue (we haven't had our seasonally serie A signing yet) that no one was expecting.
  19. I know our players seemed to slip up a lot today people sliding around all over the place.................
  20. We had some good results at the start of the season without chappers though..............
  21. We are so far above were I thought we would be this summer I can't get despondant. I'd still rather be top even by 1pt (after a tricky away derby) than not be......
  22. In fairness Guly looked no different today to how he always looks on the field. On a good day he plays like that scores and everyone loves him on a bad day he plays exactly the same doesn't score and everyone hates him........
  23. Yes it was dire.... coupled with the fact that other than Claridge all the pundits are so cuaght up in the PL that don't have a f ucking clue about clubs and players outside of the top flight...
  24. LOL at the role reversal of you two.......
  25. Right.... Top of the league at christmas...................... check Don't lose to hated rivals...............................check don't lose an away game ..............................check Players not to lose their bottle at fratton........ check Not a bad day really, shame we couldn't hang on for the win but in fairness we were the much better team and should have had the game put to bed by the time the skates scored. If the Skates come to us and play like that we will kill them. Not a disaster ....but could have been better though I'd have taken a draw at the start of the day.
