Financial expectations Hypo. Plenty of people have been banging on about us signing players. We ain't got the cash so the expectation can only be that Gao put it in. That was never gonna happen. -

I always have been mate. I've just been realistic about what we can expect from him. -
WHO are predicting 3.5% death rate. Flu is 0.2% 17.5 more deadly on WHO figures. Add in that it's seemingly much more contagious. Borders, cities, and countries don't get shutdown because of Flu. The response of many western countries highlights the seriousness of this stuff.

To be fair, my little one is in school. As a kid my understanding is that she could carry and pass on the disease symptom free. Whilst i's great that she's unlikely to suffer if she gets it, I may suffer if I receive it from her, and others I could pass it to. The Norwegian PM said to Norwegian kids "By being home you are helping other people not to be contaminated and get sick. It is important for those who already have a disease, or who are very old." That makes sense. Sending kids out there to catch something to pass to others is monumentally stupid imo. If our approach is correct, pretty much everyone has to be wrong.

Nail. Head. Saved me the bother, thank you. -
It's also in the guardian, but it's simple maths based on Merkel predicted 80% infection rates, and the 60% for the herd immunity figure. Obviously we'll have nowhere near the beds we need. Hence the imminent requirement for the over 70's to hide away and not get ill, thus not need a non existent bed.
-
Not my numbers mate. Merkel suggested 80% infection rate in Germany. We've not been given any predictions here and in truth nobody knows. 60% has been mentioned as the figure needed for the herd immunity model. We're told 1 in 5 will need hospital care. There is no predicted death rate but its 7.3% in Italy, although that's based on confirmed cases and doubtless there's masses of unreported cases which would dilute the body count. Countries are being closed down for good reason. This ain't the cold many still think it is.
-
Yep, football is irrelevant for now. If 60% infection rate is to be expected, and say 3% overall death rate, that's a lot of bodies. The only way to get the body count down is to keep infection rate down you would think.

I'll reply to this post then leave you to it. You're confusing Gao with a multi billionaire with money to burn on a hobby. SFC ain't a hobby. It's a business. He ain't a multi billionaire. Business men do not throw money away. It's really not a difficult concept. -

Common sense is lost on him mate. There's not one business man in the world who'd inject tens of millions into a business knowing it'll never come back. But Gao should do that apparently. -

Gordon, we've done this to death. You consistently misquote me and fail to see any argument other than yours. You think the club should sign players. I say I'd love them to, but as I can read a balance sheet and have a bit of common sense, I accept we can't. We both want a different owner. I've said that several times but you appear to think I'm a fan of his. Bizarre. In case you haven't noticed, there's a bit more going on in the word. I'm not interested in trying to debate with someone as blinkered as you. I'm more interested in stuff that actually matters. -
SOG, I get that. As I've said, I have folks in their mid 70's, both with respiratory issues, one of them acute. I hate the idea of them being caged in for months, but I'd hate them to die on a trolley through their own inability to do as requested. I don't like this deflection from the issue by referring to other issues. This is a single, and bloody important, issue.
-
Completely different issue Whelk, but I agree, the panic buying and stockpiling is outrageous. But I won't die if someone buys too many loo rolls and I have to use a rag. I will if someone ignores sage advice and catches it cos they "need" to take their car for an mot and take the bed I could have had if they weren't so selfish.
-
I'll answer your first point. The other two are daft. Anyone that takes a hospital bed through their own selfish stupidity is a threat. That bed could have gone to someone else who hadn't been selfish. That bed could have been for me or someone I know. We all have a responsibility in this situation - being selfish/stubborn and prejudicing others is downright irresponsible.
-
This. As an addendum, it's the sheer selfishness of knowing that they could be taking a hospital bed / respirator / doctors from someone else that I can't get over. Car mot though, ffs. Get a mate to take it. Get the garage to collect it. Just don't be selfish.
-
Blimey. It's not just about you.
-
No disrespect intended, but they're not reasons why it can't work. Sure it'll be difficult, as it will for all of us, but they're not a bar to isolation working. My folks are well over 70 and both have acute respiratory issues. They're coming out with similar stuff but are slowly understanding the need for them, and others in society, to do as is required.
-
Yep. It seems obvious. More infections now = more sick people now.
-
There's gotta be consistency Mr Duck. If you give Liverpool the title do you say Norwich are gone and relegate them, and say nobody will will catch West Brom so send them up? It's either abandon the season or finish it. But yeah, I'd be fecking annoyed if we were in Liverpool shoes.
-
Yep. If the suppression has somehow halted the spread then great. Either way, I'm struggling to see how exposing more people as we're doing slows our peak and helps keep the pressure off the medics. It feels counter intuitive, and is contrary to what the Chinese and others have done. Either way, there's nothing we can do other than what we're advised and take sensible precautions.
-
Spot on. Giving Liverpool the title means picking other winners and losers when nothing has been mathematically decided. End it here and start next season as near to the usual start date as is safe.
-
As I've said, I have no idea on the numbers that will get it. It's the government that have thrown out the 60% of the population figure for herd immunisation. Merkel has speculated that a higher figure of Germans could it. Its been said that 1 in 5 will get seriously ill. The number that will die, will depend on the number that are get it and that comes down to government policy. We're using a different approach to others and I don't mind admitting I think it's stupid.
-
I hope you're right, but the response of Western governments suggests otherwise. For every person fearing armageddon, there are several more in the "it's just a cold" and "flu kills more, so what's all the fuss" camps. The truth is China have suppressed this and conducted mass testing. When they come fully out of lock down, who knows what will happen but if it means another spike, at least the suppression period has given teh medics time to traleat. We've done neither of those and whilst I'm no medic or expert, common sense tells me that our policy of limited testing and minimal suppression is bound to lead to mass spread, thus mass impact on the NHS, and a high death count. I've no idea where you plucked the 300k death figure from, but this isn't a subject to be falsely attributing comments to people - if you must post in that style, do it on irrelevant stuff like football.
