As has been said above, there's a world of difference between what happens and what is reported and acted upon. You're not gonna persuade me that society is worse now than in the days of bananas being thrown at black players. In those days no action was taken. These days, incidents are fewer but action, quite rightly, is much more common when there is an incident. And don't you dare suggest thay I am a problem in respect of racism. Exactly this. Society is less tolerant of racism thus more racists are dealt with. More action is not a sign of an increased problem.

I'm not sure why it'd be an issue for a current PL player to come out. Society has moved on so much, and while there'll always be a few knuckle draggers with something to say, your average / normal fan won't give a monkeys. On topic, Fashanu's treatment was typical of the time, but his suicide an indictment of that time. He was a great player and doing something to remember him is well deserved.

Correct to forget how he left, that was 6 years ago. (How we tried to hold him back after he stood by us is another debate). He's undoubtedly got quality still and not getting in the Liverpool team ahead of Salah, Mane etc doesn't make him a bad player! If the wages were right, he'd be a great addition to our team.
