  1. For me it depends who they are playing with. I rated Stephens more than Yoshida as a partner to Van Dijk, but I wouldn't want Hoedt and Stephens playing together in a million years. For me assuming number 1 is Vestergaard Yoshida Stephens Bednarek And I'd never play Hoedt with Vestergaard.
  2. I'm pretty sure managers have been given some freedom to get their own people in that hasn't involved the black box... Which probably explains some of the dross we've had to put up with e.g. Martina, pied, Elia, carillo, ... from your list I'm pretty sure Pelle and clasie would have been black box signings, but I hardly think Pelle was a disaster. 5. Completely agree with this. None are good enough and yet we have been a defensive side for the last 2 years... It defies all sense Sent from my Moto G (5) using Tapatalk
  6. Lol. 2 teams of non-defending attackless wonders.... The Southampton way, we plod on [emoji3] Sent from my Moto G (5) using Tapatalk
  7. At some point we need to attack the opposition. 4-3-3 for me, but with a narrow midfield supported by the full backs stepping up when we attack and the wings falling back into a 5 when we defend --------------------mccarthy-------------------- Cedric---stephens---yoshida---bertrand ----------------------romeu---------------------- -------------lemina--------davis------------- Redmond-------austin-------------sims Sent from my Moto G (5) using Tapatalk
  8. 4-4-2 and overrun in midfield. What a surprise. Down we go... Sent from my Moto G (5) using Tapatalk
  9. We'll get overrun in midfield with 2 up top unless we resort to longer balls so I hope not. I'd like to see the wide players pushing on a lot more to support the front man so we are effectively attacking with 3 and with someone playing in the no 10 role pulling the strings. Unfortunately I'm not sure we have enough energy in our wide players to do the tracking back that would be required or a proper no 10 for that matter. I think this is probably les' idea for playing 4-2-3-1 but he doesn't buy the right players to fit the system... Sent from my Moto G (5) using Tapatalk
  10. Butland would be great! Sent from my Moto G (5) using Tapatalk
  11. This really frustrates me. I get people not wanting to boo, but clapping a crap performance is a complete mystery... Sent from my Moto G (5) using Tapatalk
  12. As I said we're down. He should have gone a long time ago but it is clear he's going nowhere Sent from my Moto G (5) using Tapatalk
  13. We're down Sent from my Moto G (5) using Tapatalk
  14. Hughes seems to have links with agents that have decent players on their books which could "enable" some decent signings. I'm not convinced he is a saints style manager though as he'll want more control than we let our managers have. Personally I would expect another left field choice. 19. I agree re booing, but clapping the players who came over to the stands after the final whistle is a mystery to me. I saw very little yesterday that deserved that applause.
  20. He tried 2 up top at the end of the match yesterday and again it was awful. Long and Austin are clearly not the answer to any of our problems - what shocks me is that we did nothing about this over the summer. Sent from my MotoG3 using Tapatalk
  21. Absolute disgrace. Too many poor performances, no urgency and very poor tactical decisions (or lack of) by Koeman
  22. Attacking midfielder. Surely you wouldn't expect someone writing for a red top to actually know what they're talking about would you?
  23. Wigan, Villa and Reading. But not much to keep either us or Sunderland out of it - Sunderland's form is abysmal. I get the feeling its going to be a nervy ride.....
  24. Both of those are midtable established Premier league teams, we could compete with the wages, but we couldn't offer the security of guaranteed premier league football.
  25. Are you saying that we can simply just sign better players? My assertion is that it isn't that simple and that better players wouldn't want to join a team that are highly likely to be involved in a relegation struggle. If I was a player capable of playing in a mid-table premier league team I wouldn't join a team that has only just come up who are fighting a relegation battle. I'd also choose a side like Newcastle that have been higher up in the league in recent times in preference to us. I don't think any of the sides around us in the table have signed better players than us with the exception of Newcastle, who you could argue are performing well below their capability.
