Let's not get into this again! They're Man Utd though, we're not. They'll generate interest wherever they go, we won't. I doubt people over there really know where Southampton is...let's be honest!
-
That's pretty insane really, look at what Wigan received...! and Norwich, more than we've had in revenue for years!
-
Good job for him. I must say he's gone way up in my estimations in his short sky career (I guess that'll still continue...?). He's shown he knows what he's talking about for a start, and has a real tactical awareness of teams and players.....He's the sort of guy you want in and around the England squad if we're honest, not Italians who can't speak full English and just speak with Capello....you want coaches who can interact with the players at a similar level. We kind of have that with Andy Crosby and that link between the players and the manager is pretty crucial. I don't think we ever had that under Capello.

Ok, well there's very little differnce between them. They did finish higher under Roy though, I'm sure of that. And isn't their current points total their lowest for 2 decades? May be wrong on that. Their home for is their worst for a long time though... The biggest criticism that can be labelled at him...was that he was given around £70m+. He bought Andy Caroll, Jordan Henderson, Charlie Adam and Stewart Downing with that. That's a sackable offense on it's own!! He's had a serious amount of money to spend, and OK - he's reinvested the Torres cash, but surely you'd expect your manager to invest it better than he has? He's blown it away.

I can't believe this is still rumbling on.

I have no idea, but I believe this was cut when Lowe came back the 2nd time. It didn't really benefit us an inch at the time. No one really gives a **** about us out there!

Why are we so slow at announcing ticket prices (inc season ticket prices)?
S-Clarke replied to dune's topic in The Saints
If anything, our slowness in getting season ticket sales up and running is a real positive. Clubs thrive on season ticket sales during the close season, but we seem content with not getting this revenue until sometimes in July - so that's got to be a positive way of looking at it and our potential finance position. -
I must admit, I was surprised he featured so little in the run-in (although he was so poor against Leeds). He could have been an option on the bench...but the largely ineffective Steve De Ridder got in front of him all the time, so he's obviously not pulling his weight 100%. Somethings not right anyway, but we're going to struggle to move him on as clubs will not pay the fee we want. We may be stuck with him running down his contract.

In the championship Kris Commons would be a decent shout, but I think we can do better now if I'm honest. I think we're actively after Hooper and Jay Rodriguez, that's just a hunch. But now we've been promoted we have the pull to get these players, especially Jay Rodriguez. The only thing that will stop these happening is if the chairman put stupid prices on the players heads. I'm sure we work to an acceptable maximum price, as all transfers we do are discussed by a committee as such. If the club want over what we feel is acceptable then I can't see us paying over the odds, we've never done under this management and I doubt we'll start doing it at this level either. Some will say you need to do that (and in some cases, for a special player that will make all the difference, you may need to) but it is leading to a road that's a bit of a mess if you do it a lot...especially if you want to be self sustainable! To be honest, I wouldn't pay over £6m for Jay Rod. I wouldn't pay over 6m for Hooper either. £6m could get you a much more complete player from Europe if the scouts were on the ball, which I believe ours are.

I don't think that's as a negative slant on the player in particular. They tried to work a game plan whereby Lambert would be isolated against Clyne. If anything it was a bit of naivety on their managers part in allowing it to happen. It wasn't really his job to mark Lambert. I'm sure Lambert would have the beating of Evra at the far post too...if he was isolated against him. -
Would agree. If he was a 16 or 17 year old that had done that well, I'd say keep him...but what is he, 23/24? Never going to make it above L1 IMO.
-
It would be the right thing to do. He's done worse in the league than Roy did for them, yet the scousers are crying for him to be given more time. It's all to do with his past history and association, and nothing to do with the fact that he's actually a pretty useless manager. He'll hold them back if he stays. Look at the amount of money he's wasted on crap ffs!

Jelavic has done ok.

Livermore and Frimpong would be good additions, but Livermore in particular is - IMO - similar to what we already have. We need a totally different CM in there, someone forward thinking and goal hungry... -
To be fair, he was put into a pretty difficult situation and the chairman never gave him a chance. He was plucked from local rivals Birmingham, so was already at a disadvantage. He was then asked to take control of an aging and degrading bunch of players, and he wasn't really given the scope to change much about. So Randy Lerner needs to have a look at himself too, and ask himself where is the club going? They can't keep selling Downing, Milner, Young etc...and not replace them, what do they expect will happen? They need to invest and rebuild that squad, but unless a new manager is given the scope to do it then he's in for a very tricky time.
-
I don't think we'll be too ruthless, sometimes I think you can be. Look at Pardew's second season with us for example. In that summer we released 14 or 15 players IIRC, our retained list didn't contain many retained players...put it that way. It took us a while to get going again after that, and we never really had the depth after that either. So, steady as she goes. The out of contract guys will go, but I'd be surprised to see players like Harding, Chaplow or Hammond let go. Butterfield also recently signed a new contract, so he will still be part of the plans here next year. As people keep saying, it's about evolution - not revolution. Too much change will make us very vulnerable. This team ethic we have at the moment is excellent, and I wouldn't want to see it ripped apart at the expense of some mega-premiership stars on $$$$$$. And as has been said, a team will get you more success than a collective of individuals.
-
I've always rated him tbh, I remember watching him at Villa and thinking he was a decent player. Didn't do too bad at Fulham either. Goal scoring midfielder, experienced in the premiership, 26 years old.....£2m. Deal.
-
I've always thought he was a decent player tbh.
-
for £2m, he'd be absolute quality. He's done it in the premiership with Fulham and Vila before, and he did a good job too. He's stuck out like a sore thumb in the SPL as he's clearly too good for that level. Would be a brilliant start to our business.

What do you look like when you find out your team has lost the title, in the final minute?

He doesn't need to go around doing what he does after that though. The guy is a nutcase, deserves no one sticking up for him. If he was set up, then he's let them win emphatically.
