What will Charlton do with their game in hand tonight
S-Clarke replied to thefunkygibbons's topic in The Saints
They're having a purple patch. They will finish midtable and will never threaten for promotion. If they do, i'll happily come back and bump this post! -

I agree with alot of posts in this thread.....our task is quite simple really, we don't have to look at other teams and hope for favours. We just need to do our job professionally and consistently. I think we're the best equipped to do it... -
I think they're a bit too inconsistent though. One week they'll win 1-0, next it'll be a 6-4 defeat or something random like that. I think they are always likely to concede sloppy goals which will pull them short of the autos IMO.

FT - Charlton have lost what a great result that is.

Their season was over the moment they appointed Megson.

Charlton equalise.

Harsh and unfair thread really. Wait till next January before posting a thread like this.

Adkins judgement has been proven to be very good too. He gave beckford his chance when he signed him on Loan, I believe he signed Billy Sharp from Rusden - then replaced him when he was sold for big bucks with Gary Hooper from Hereford (who then left to join Celtic) He then signed Hayes etc.... His judgement of strikers is outstanding, he's not really made too many signings as yet to be judged. You cannot tell me you're judging N'Guessan and Forte yet? I remember the slating Antonio got after his first few games......then in the summer he was the next Pele.

Just done the predictor myself. Out of the 18 games left - I've got 13 wins , 2 draws, 3 defeats finish 2nd, just. 89 points. Out of our last batch of 18 league games we achieved: 11 wins, 4 defeats, 3 draws - That would give us 85 points if we repeated that form. We're not far away at all. Just a little more consistency... One thing that struck me was how many of us play at home on the last day...this is going to be very nerve racking. We need to make sure we're in 2nd going into the last day... Huddersfield v Brentford Charlton v Hartlepool Bournemouth v Rochdale P'Boro v Daggers (although I think P'Boro will end up as a playoff chasing team) Saints v Wallsall

Pleased with Lambo, although he had a sluggish first half of the season. It should send a chill down the spine of the other teams in and around us when they look at his recent form. He's back.
-
He always over reacts, his post history is a great laugh.

I see you cleverly forgot to add Chaplow into the list of players he's signed, because he's been a success and that would therefore make your argument silly. Still I see you're giving the new guys a long enough opportunity to prove themselves. Oh.

Today was the worst thing that could have happened for Dany. I'd be surprised if he ever takes off here as we all want. One thing the Leicester fans made clear to us when we got him is that he's a confidence player, his head dips very quickly when the crowd get on his back and it's hard for him to raise it again. Imagine how the poor fella feels after being cheered off the pitch. Total joke and we may now never get to see the best of him.

RIP if true. Awful news.

It did, had a few mongs around me. They summed up their footballing knowledge when they came out with these classics: ''When will we sign Guly? we obviously don't have the money anymore'' ''Lallana's not the same player is he? He should have gone in the window as he wanted to'' ''Lambert needs to wake up and smell the roses, he's not good enough for this team''

Wasn't great to watch and not much really happened of note. Not going to bother writing much up as I might end up falling to sleep! At the end of the day - we won, 3pts and a clean sheet. That's all we can take from this game.
-
It was a reaction that left me cringing. We have some complete mongs as fans, they're probably the same that shout '''WHOOOO'' whenever the oppo. bring on a sub. It's boring now.

Now that's a panic signing if I ever saw one.

Huddersfield vs Carlisle JPT tonight
S-Clarke replied to for_heaven's_Saint's topic in General Sports
Let's hope that result demoralises Hudders a bit and affects their league form...bet they're gutted at not getting to Wembley. Nice to see Carlisle get another shot too. Pretty even final, can't really call it - 2 similar sides in Brentford and Carlisle. -

88mins Huddersfield 3-0 Carlisle they're battering them...wonder if Carlisle can hang on -
I'm going to throw my 2 pence into this debate. I think there are rights and wrongs from both sides – neither party is perfect in the way they are acting. I have felt for a while that there is a feeling of ''bitterness'' from a few of our ex-players/managers with regards to their lost ''access'' and lost ''perks''. When Cortese came into the club himself and Markus made a pledge that no one will be offered perks, everyone will be equal and you'll have to pay for your ticket the same as everyone else. Nicola and Markus stuck by this and purchased their own season tickets and through this method I believe a few people lost the access they once had. The communication regarding this could have probably been done better and by doing it the way he has done, Cortese has rubbed a few noses up the wrong way, It should have been initiated better before letting it get to this stage - communication has been one of my main gripes with Cortese. I must say though that some of the recent comments from Benali in particular are pretty poor and show a complete lack of professionalism and they have surprised me. I know that they have the best wishes of the club at heart and I'll never forget what they've all contributed to our history, but I don't believe they warrant perks and the use of the clubs name and brand where and when they want. We're being run as a professional structure and Cortese holds a lot of pride in the brand and the name of Southampton around the world - which I think we should be very grateful for; some owners wouldn't give a damn. I don't think Cortese is ignoring our history, I believe he's trying to accelerate our future. There have been many a year where we have all lived in the past at what once was and I felt this held us back. We have a very forward thinking chairman and I think that needs to be applauded rather than criticized. It's sad to see that it's come to this but our ex-guys need to realise that we're moving forward very quickly now - their impact on Southampton will never be forgotten but we cannot continue to live in the past. It's time to create a new history.
-
Surprised Mackail-Smith didn't get in that team though.
-
He's already rubbished any takeover stuff in the big interview he did with the BBC a few months ago. This will be ignored by Cortese because it is complete rubbish. He's definitely true to his word.
-
Agree, maybe even slightly less. It's going to be very close for 2nd right up until the last week. Will probably go down to the last game. Not sure I can take that!!
-
Well we were quoted with an interest, Adkins didn't deny it when asked - so I wouldn't be surprised. But those offers are a bit of an insult to P'boro and the player. He's worth well over £1m - closer to £2m
