The fact that he's kept so quiet and his name hasn't been out there indicates to me that he is seriously in the running for the post. I never heard from Pardew, nor was he even in the running on the betting sites until late in the day. Cortese is a sensible fella, somehwat crazy at times, but he's sensible and knows how to do a media shut out....which is possibly what's happened here. He knows he needed a high profile appointment to get everyone back on his side. I believe you may be surprised.

oh so was i, i was very happy with pard's appointment. I was just putting across that the general mood of most posters was a bit underwhelming at the time - but that was mainly because WGS and kk were ''apparently'' done deals

I have a niggling feeling that it will be manager that no one here has spoken about. Did we speak about Pard's before he was speculated? He came out of the blue and everyone was underwheled by it - i remember the reaction was pretty much ''oh....nice one'' but it didn't turn out that bad did it? at the end of the day a manager with an ounce of ability should be able to get us out of this league, as i believe Pardew would have done if he was kept on.

I reckon the premiership manager would be someone like Roberto Martinez, someone who is currently under pressure at Wigan as they're not having the best of starts. I'd imagine he's starting to wonder what more he can actually achieve there rather than survival and maybe he wants to jump ship before he's pushed?
