Take the old "no no no we MUST go all out to win every game regardless of the consequences" specs off and it makes perfect sense to lose that match. Ideally draw secure a worse disciplinary record but failing that lose it narrowly which is exactly what we did.

Lot of mythering about **** all on here. We lost fairly narrowly in a game effectively between 2 reserve sides and now find ourselves in a more advantageous position than if we had won it or drawn it.

Agree. Great ability but all too rarely seen in his last two seasons and even before that I always felt he could offer more if he showed more of a killer instinct. Wish him well though.

Anyway, the point is IF we are in for Maddison and bidding 20 odd million it dispels any fears that we are just going to try to muddle through with the current players and not buy any new ones that cost decent money.

Am I ecstatic about this appointment per se - No. Am I ecstatic that we have a manager who has already proven he will get better results than the previous plank - Yes. I'm confident that Hughes will achieve the wins against Huddersfield, Watford, Bournemouth, Brighton etc etc that MP was incapable of doing and which will see us ok next season and that'll do for now.
