  1. That is an appalling system. Say you contract Salmonella? That certainly isn't a 'holiday'!!
  2. Consider yourself lucky mate! I would LOVE to be able to make that claim, but alas, I can't (see post above). It does **** me off that people who are not sick take the **** out of the system which then makes those of us who are ill feel guilty for something we have no control over. Luckily my illness is covered under the Disabilities Discrimation Act so at least I have a leg to stand on (so to speak) if my bosses ever question my sick days!
  3. I just can't wait for the Man U fans to come out and defend Rooney's performance over this WC
  4. Can someone please explain to me this 'bleeding heart' nonsense - Maybe it's an age thing, but I really don't get it!
  5. This I think hits the nail firmly on the head.
  6. To all those countless people going on and on about how we need an English manager, have we really forgotten Steve McClaren that easily?!?!
  7. Anyone who brings on Heskey has probably lost the plot.
  8. It will be interesting to see how far the Police go with this case: Will they continue until all stone or chair throwers/ car smashers/ fence rattlers are convicted? Or will they not rest until all the above are convicted plus all those that were 'having a nose'? For example, I know that a mate of mine was in that melée that day looking for his twin to stop him doing the sorts of things that people have been sent down for: he found him and pulled him out: From what I've read on here, some of you would have him sent down for being 'guilty by association'!
  9. As someone with a lifelong illness of which there is no cure, only medication that reduces symptoms, (Ulcerative Colitis) I honestly felt that should I have chosen a life in the Private sector I would a) Never have been given a job in the first place or b) Not been accomodated for. The Private sector always strikes me as very uncaring with regards to sickness. At least in the public sector I know that should I need an afternoon off for a consultant's appointment or an extended period of time off should I require a stay in hospital I know there will be no backlash about either attendance or 'probation periods' etc. From what I've read on here, I've seen nothing to quash these fears.
  10. It's certainly a 'Red Brick' uni, so you should be able to avoid abuse from a certain member of the forum about Unis that used to be Polys. ;-)
  11. It's embarrassing end of! The German players and 99.999999% (probably 100%) of their fans in the ground on Sunday will have had personally nothing to do with the Nazi regime. I can understand why my Grandad doesn't like Germans, but they have done NOTHING to me or my generation. I also find it highly ironic that the minority of morons who sing that song when England play away harbour the same beliefs as those they are 'shooting down'. ****ing pathetic, people need to grow up. We should be able to come up with songs about this country that do not refer back to WW2 or the Falklands for that matter. As for the game, I can see us doing Germany by the odd goal, I certainly don't think it will go to pens. Even if it does, I don't think we should be underestimated, I just have one of those feelings. England 2-1 Germany (Germany to take the lead).
  12. It's not going to happen Alpine, we'll walk it! ;-)
  13. Your illusions would probably be shattered I'm afraid ESB if you were a member of 'Englandfans' - some of them make dune look positively Commie!
  14. Germany, Argentina, Spain, Brazil...that could be our route to the final! Personally I think we'll beat Germany, watching them against Ghana last night I felt as if England certainly had nothing to be scared of!
  15. What's the old saying, if you can't beat them join them? The following letter I quote word for word from the Daily Heil (I only know about it because Jason Manford tweeted it earlier on: "Wouldn't it be nice if TV coverage of the World Cup was limited to England's games, those of the hosts South Africa and the tournaments other 'big guns'. That way, we would be spared footage of Bongobongo land vs The former Soviet Republic of Bullemia and non-events." Mike in Somerset Do you need anymore proof as to what sort of person reads that 'paper'?
  16. Starved of oxygen at birth for a short while maybe? I can't believe this thread has decended into an almost playground style debate: "My paper sells more than your paper"...come now TSW, we can do better than this!
  17. One simple word: 'Trident'.
  18. Spot on, the school I work in was planning on starting their re-build this coming academic year...now that is on hold...
  19. Throbie le saint? That's new, how long did it take you to come up with that gem? If I'm honest, I was ready to go all out in slagging this budget off, but apart from a few issues regarding welfare and the VAT hike, I don't think it's that bad - It could have been a lot worse!!
  20. This will cheer you up dune: My pay next year will still go up thanks to the teacher's pay agreement...it's just the 'level' that I move up to won't increase in size, it will stay the same as it was this year. Unlucky!
  21. Reducing housing benefit to £400 is going to make THOUSANDS of people homeless. All in this together?! My arse!
  22. Personally I would say this all started when we got shot of British industry and decided that the City was the way to create wealth... Regardless, I've bought my future children's clothes already, stocked up on food and booze while VAT is still at 17.5% and put a full tank of petrol in the car this morning...come on Georgie Boy, do your worst!! ;-)
  23. I imagine then that is why it says in the article their investigations are continuing...
