OK that makes sense. Still, goodbye greens.

Genuine question- if we did away with the constituencies who would represent me under a PR system. BTW the 5% of national vote idea from the germans would be a good way to keep out the extremists however using this elections results all parties outside the top three would lose their seats including all of the irish parties
-
One thing that has struck me about this is that all this wrangling makes a great case why PR is not such a good idea. This carry on would happen after every election. PR sounds like a great idea but will it provide a strong government or will just lead to watered down policy because everything has to be horsetraded first. I just cannot see it working.

No need to reform them - there is enough overcapacity in the industry to soak up the passengers. Give the slots to Virgin, singapore and the arabian carriers and the quality of service won't fall either.

You could release capital by remortgaging but you will still eventually have to repay it. Also when the property was sold the tax will be calculated without taking any loans into account. The tax is only charged on the profit made on the property btw.
-
Doesn't sound right - property is usually taxed under capital gains tax which is 18%.

You are of course right, however, the union leadership play a big part in advising and influencing the members which way to vote. Take for example the latest ballot. The Unite leadership strongly recommended that the members reject the offer on the table. Other times, the union leadership will say to the members, this is the best deal we will ever get and we recommend that you take it, and 9 time out of 10 they do. I am not saying the the union members are sheep and blindly follow the leadership, but FF did have a significant influence on the direction and nature of this dispute.

Clegg says Tories should be given first chance of forming a government

Nick Clegg hasn't done too badly - the smallest party will get to help shape the direction of the country. Exactly the same outcome as if PR were introduced. -
I seem to recall that at the time of the firefighter strike there was a waiting list of applicants wanting to be one. The pay and conditions couldn't have been that intolerable. I know they risk their lives, but does anyone know how much of there time is in actual life threatening situations eg in a burning building?

Their squad is about to dissolve

Are the HMRC just being sneaky. Will they turn up on the day the CVA needs approving and block it either sending PCFC into liquidation or ensuring that they enter the CCC without the CVA and a guarentee of a points deduction.

Why is it that every time he appears on the the tv I have an irrational urge to put my foot through the screen. If there was every a case for an elective house of lords, the opportunity of voting him out must be a good one.

If they do survive and form this new company they will have a £5.5m pa millstone around their neck for the next 5 years. On top of this they have to weigh up with the footie creditors money, the sum of which escapes me, but is considerable. They have to get they wage bill down to £200k per week so that means off loading anyone half decent and all their loan players will return to home clubs because the players will want to play in the prem. Now to be able to do any of this they have to generate £25m pa in revenues which (assuming the first parachute payment has been earmarked for the creditors) is optimistic. Have I missed anything? They will be struggling for years. Long live the thread!

Got to hand it to AA - he has played a blinder (from a PFC perspective).

As much as it galls me to say it, I had to chuckle at the words at the bottom of one of the posters signatures: F.A. wherever you may be Sitting in your box at Wembley You took 9 pts but we dont give a f*** Cause were going down with the FA Cup!!!

Didn't see the debate - so is Clegg a one trick pony who benefited from massive media exposure from the first debate and now cannot follow it up with substance?

On the 5th December we were 9 points off the playoffs. Today we are 7 points off the playoffs. You can say what you like but the table doesn't lie and Pardew has performed over the past 4 months. To be better off now than we were back in December is good enough.

For me Obsourne is my biggest concern. Why DC didn't choose Ken Clarke, even if for a year past the election, is beyond me. The other alternative isn't much better. If you remove Vince Cable and Clegg, what have the Libs got?

I see that Mrs Duffy now has a PR firm advising her. I reckon that this could be snapping at GB's heels for longer than he might like.

What's the point in getting involved at this stage. It has enough momentum at the moment. DC and NC will comment when it looks like the fires need fanning.

Im off to Santorini at the end of May. I'm not too worried about the situation. Compare it to the banking crisis in the UK. Trouble at the top but the rest of the economy continued to opreate.

This did make me chuckle. Well at least Gordon managed to get the Hung parliament debate off the front page.
