  1. It's the loose 50:50 balls in midfield that wouldn't be for the faint hearted, picture Jones, or Dennis Wise going in for it with Brian O'Neill (socks rolled down, no shinpads) for a shuddering tackle. Followed by Vinnie, Fash the Bash & Co clashing with McGrath, Gabriel, Walker, Hollywood ... whilst the ref and lnesman try to keep it under control.
  2. According to BBC article it was a two year deal, which in itself wasn't an overwhelming vote of confidence showing commitment or good intention. Surprised Nuno went for such a deal especially as he was clearly well down their list of options after several others were meant to have turned it down, or had offers withdrawn. Feel sorry for Nuno in some ways as he came across well at Wolves I thought, but anyone accepting pieces of silver from levy shouldn't expect it to be plain sailing at Spurs, with or without the Kane saga in the background.
  3. Agree, need a far more impressive CV than that: -miss crucial penalty as a player -average to poor playing a part in Middlesbrough's relegation c 10 years ago -good experience at pizza commercials -could double up as model for M&S 3-piece suits if required.
  4. Yes, noticed the following: And this one: North London Yobbery at it's finest. Pass the port please Rupert.
  5. Are we giving away teams more tickets this season ? Looked to me that Man U/Leeds for instance had an extra block compared to what it used to be (two years ago !!), but it might be age and memory.
  6. How often have we seen depleted and makeshift sides come and frustrate us, even pulling off a win against the odds ? Would expect us to win given the confidence in respective camps but certainly can't take it for granted that Villa will be as poor against us as they have been the last couple of games.
  7. He probably needs to do 'an Eddie' in getting them up and keeping them there for a couple of seasons before he's in contention for a 'big club' (as spurs would regard themselves). Wonder if EH regrets not moving a season or so sooner whilst his stock was high. With a relegation and absence on his cv it might be some time before he's mentioned re 'big clubs' as the once 'up and coming manager'. If we don't offer him the lifeline, and can't see it after our last three games - if it was even on the cards before - then I can only see him in the EPL as a stand in until end of season somewhere.
  8. Wonder if Eddie's putting his best interview/press conference suit back in the wardrobe tonight.
  9. Didn't see a stream of the match so can't comment on his chances today, but I have a feeling he'll come good. Just a hunch. From what I've seen he does get involved, and was instrumental in getting in positions to draw two penalties (although one was cancelled). Not as if games are passing him by as they used to with Elynoussi for example. If and when he gets a couple and the confidence goes up I think he'll prove a decent signing.
  10. added to which should be remembered that Big Ron was playing against some pretty hardened bastards as defenders, not the 'he's a big bloke' ,lump of lard, like Harry Maguire, but some pretty rough and ready Centre Halves who could handle themselves (Jack Charlton, Ron Yates, 'Chopper Harris'- though not a CH would make his presence known).
  11. Did we have the World's hardest in The Alehouse team at the time ? Often wondered who'd win in a centre circle punch up between our Alehouse v Wimbledon's Crazy Gang.
  12. Pele as part of our Alehouse* team ? Not sure on that one. Did he even drink ? *perhaps not relevant as Big Ron's moment at Old Trafford was 1969, (and probably his best seasons were before that even), and I don't think The Alehouse team were officailly christened until the following year or so (Sept 1970 sticks in my mind after a 1-0 win v Liverpool). Thought I'd add that before MLG dives for the history books.
  13. I remember this after we beat them 4-1, but not sure if it was best in Europe or World. Was Pele (5'8" according to Wikipedia) regarded as a Centre Forward ? Not sure he was. But imagine how prolific a goalscorer he might have been if Paine and Sydenahm were Brazilian !
  14. We signed Weah's best cousin. Or at least thought we had.

Not sure how I'd feel if Daniel Kretinsky bought us. Would any signings made under him, or indeed the whole team be known as The Kretins ?
  16. Koeman falls into the same category as Alan Ball for me; was great for us, and disappointed when they left (both of which were avoidable in my book) but overall a fairly chequered if not poor managerial record which didn’t work out for him when he had the big opportunities. Can’t see it happening or working if he came back. Couple of things from his time with us, was Erwin the brains behind it ? And let’s not forget the run that lead to rumours (on here anyway) that he was a game or so from the sack, and several calling for it, which was then turned around with a 2-0 win to Watford (and good run to the end of e season).
  17. And of course Lawrie
  18. Fair point about celebrating history and honouring various players but personally think the band look better in the same shirts rather than a mish mash from various eras. Never previously rated the Admiral two stripe kit at the time but have to say it looks pretty smart on this, perhaps it's the lack of a sponsor that adds to its appeal. Saints Brass though very impressed for pre-match involvement, but suspect it would get on my tits after a while during a match.
  19. Put him under pressure. Heard he was a bit flakey at times.
  20. I could see Newcastle going for a short term fix till the end of the season though when they'd flex their financial clout a bit more to try and bring in a bigger name. Assumes they stay up of course.
  21. Providing it's not Ken Bailey going round the ground with his flag, and 'thumbs up' and 'thumbs down' routine. Half expected the thread to be about The Albion Band though.
  22. Impressive stuff, good video MLG. Thanks. Not 'jazzy' enough for a Live & Let Die comparison, this remains far more disciplined and orderly. Good for getting the crowd raised over the next few weeks I hope.
  23. Agree.
  24. I also saw an article in the last day or so saying both Arsenal and Leicester were interested in signing Elynoussi. I don't suppose Leicester will be too keen to do business with us so soon after taking Bertrand and Vestergaard from us and seeing the value they got for their money. But if they were to give us money for him as well I think they'd rapidly become a favourite club of mine. Don't suppose they want one of our GK's or Long as back up to Schmeichel and Vardy as well.
  25. Do you mean as half time entertainment screened from the centre circle ? Think the Human Rights Lobby might get involved somewhere along the line here.
