  1. These games should be in a Saints worst ever collapses rather than comebacks thread, but since you mentioned it. The Spurs match was an Easter Monday - lunchtime - fixture c 1979 I think. Saints 3-0 up at half time, gradually allowed Spurs back into it. Eventually 3-3. Could have been worse, Spurs player went round our GK in the last minute, and rolled the ball against the post from a tight angle (looked easier to score, but not as easy as Long v Bournemouth the other week). Add Leeds 4-3 in Championship to the collapses (along with Villa at home the previous season 2-0 to 2-3, Boro 2-0 in the 89th minute, to 2-2, and Spurs in the cup, Ronny Bastardrosenthal).
  2. I've been fortunate enough to have been at some of the games referred to ( 4-3 Ipswich, 2-2 Newcastle, MK Dons) but I can't say any game comes near to the legendary Notts Forest cup tie. I wasn't there as too young, but from what older relatives told me, it really must be the ultimate. Honourable mention though to the 1-1 v Villa in January 1976 with Hughie Fisher's last minute goal. Okay not spectacular in 'just geting a late equaliser' but look where it ended. 2-2 League Cup S/F First leg at Elland Road in 1979 worth a mention also.
  3. Sounds a bit Admiral Sheffield Utd from the late 70's. (Assuming two red stripes at the front).
  4. Impressive stuff. You could never doubt his commitment to the cause when playing although this is easily eclipsed by his dedication and fund raising since.

    Toomer

Very sad to read about the loss of Toomer. Was a good poster who made sensible and valued contributions on quite a few threads. Will be missed. Thoughts are with his family.
  6. Scouse v North London yobbos.
  7. Agreed.
  8. As they were playing Pompey, the incidents are likely to be 'pompey-related' .
  9. Where did that come from ?
  10. Comment from Catlin: Does he think some other team were playing there that day as well ?
  11. In for 'both positions' quite possibly, but two at £20m a piece seems unlikely given our finances.
  12. City haven't been playing with too much swagger recently, been expecting them to stutter at some point and drop points, though hoping they don't.
  13. If we're talking £20m plus, I'd have though Augustin was more likely to be targeted having performed in a stronger league than Belgium.

    Danny Ings

Thank's again Les. The ultimate insult and p!ss take in this deal is L/pool inserting a sell on clause. Wonder if Reed added these into the deals for VD & Mane in case they move on to Real Madrid.
  15. We've been linked with Ritsu Doan who plays for Gronigen (links further up this thread), but why would signing a Japanese, or even Korean, player appeal to Gao ? Not likely to increase the profile in China which was said to be one of his hopes on buying into the club.

    Danny Ings

A modern and upgraded version of David Connolly then. For £20m I suspect Ralph could recruit better, but under Les Reed's recruitment and negotiation we did a lot worse for similar amounts (Carillo at £19m). If Reed left us an opt out I'd look to exploit it, but doesn't look as if he did. I agree a fit version of Ings could be a tremendous asset but it's questionable if we'll see one.
  17. Perhaps like during the Puel season we will need to change for a cup final and then realise that the change strip is such an embarrassment we'll decide to wear white instead. Grey and yellow !!! Sounds shocking. Should just let Gecko or The 9 draw up a few prototypes, always better than what the club's official 'partners' come up with.

    Gao

What became of the five pledges ? A pledge to spend diddly-squat A pledge to adopt a monastic vow of silence... I'm lost for the other three.
  19. Strangely though, Hojberg and JWP are our most saleable assets, and likely to be subject to most interest, unless there is renewed interest in Redmond on the back of recent form.
  20. This would probably need a third kit as we couldn't wear a purple kit to a team wearing red,or claret (West Ham, Burnley, possibly Villa), which makes up most of the teams we'd need to change for. Having never worn purple is no reason for us not to go off in this direction though, that seems an attraction to the designer types. We'd not worn green until a few seasons ago that didn't stop them.
  21. That may indeed be a realistic assessment but the overriding thought on viewing that as our potential squad is an overwhelming mediocrity at best. The striker options still look weak if we are relying on the 65 minute/half a season Ings,Long, and the untied Obafemi even with a new striker (depending on who it is). Ideally I'd like to see upgrades throughout and RH given the means to really put his mark on the squad. Doubt it will happen to that degree though.
  22. He was on the radio the other week, may have been last Saturday lamenting the fact that they hadn't taken their chances again. 'We're crying out for a goalscorer, thought we had one in Sala, had we signed him things could have been different...' he stated. Clearly no one at the club told him he was never really their player.
  23. Bit of a Leeds-Villa situation gather, without the sportsmanship after.

  25. 1-3 Palace. Bye, Neil.
