Just seen that he has died. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/55501754 I remember he was very gracious in defeat in 1976. Was certainly one of the "characters" in the 1960's and 70's. RIP.

Countess Mountbatten, certainly a worthy cause. Gave great care to one of my relatives in the latter stages of his life.

Isn't Redmond also a doubt ?

Seem to remember 'The Drummond' appearing on a Saints flag at away games in the 1980's.

Redmond has largely lived up to my expectations of him to be honest, I thought he was an average player at best before his arrival. Although he excelled for us the season he won Player of the Season he has now reverted to type, bit of speed but too often runs into blind alleys and does a stop-turn that Fabrice Fernandes would be proud of.

Realisation perhaps that the move to a bigger and more glamorous (London) club that he might have hankered after a couple of years ago has now passed him by . And/Or the length of contract is too long. Seems the club in this instance are in a decent bargaining position.

Always struck me as a indentikit manager for a successful Arsenal. Seem to recall he even has a bit of a George Graham look about him.

I'd have though Pochetino would be higher up their list.

Were Puel or Branfoot, "dislikeable" as individuals though ? Puel may have served up some turgid football, was unconvincing during interviews and possibly out of his depth, but I can't say I disliked the bloke. In defence of Branfoot he would face up to his critics and didn't shy away from the fans continuing to walk 'the touchline' despite the abuse. Understandably his tactics and treatment of MLT incurred the wrath of fans. One final point on Branfoot which should be acknowledged by Saints fans in that despite the abuse etc he still had the good grace to agree writing a tribute to MLT in his testimonial programme as one of his managers, whereas one ignored the request - Mr Hoddle. Redknapp and Dennis Wise on the other hand were pretty difficult to take to whist at Saints, ditto Hughes.

Something for the older supporters or those who like delving into the past, but on 5/12/60 quite an memorable match took place at The Dell. Saints v Leeds in the then fairly new League Cup. It went into folklore and history books for a couple of reasons: Due to floodlight failure it took 2 hrs 40 minutes to complete (this was the longest time to complete a single "90 minute match" for some years, not sure if this still stands). Also Derek Reeves scored all five Saints goals - a record for a League Cup match that stood until 1989. This is contained on the Wikipedia page for Derek Reeves: Interesting about the no subs, and also that not being able to hold on to a commanding lead is nothing new. This predates my time following Saints by a few years but recall older family talking about this match. Any of the older Saints fans remember it, or there that night ?

Please with this news, hopefully he'll keep improving and remain with us but if he feels he's outgrown us then at the very least it'll enable a decent fee rather than doing a Hojberg on us.

Except players of a similar profile such as Axel Disai (who we were linked with and ended up at Monaco) and Sven Botman (who someone on here mentioned and went to Lille) were available for a similar sum to Salisu and as far as I'm aware are all featuring at their clubs. Hope this signing turns out well but the longer it goes on the more possible that the club have made a cock up or not done all the homework they might have done.

Not at all. But the club was established in 1885 not 1974. As I said in an earlier post I'm never been a great fan of the badge but given the possible modern mess we might end up with it might as well leave it as it is as it (doubt we'd end up with a 'classical' design if redesigned).
