  1. I've been saying that for about 12months.. ..but won't complain if he scores an overhead as he once did for his previous club.
  2. Aren't you following the match then ?
  3. Torquay with another game in hand after tonight as well...
  4. but quietly closing in on 8th...
  5. I meant Channon left before CN returned as manager
  6. Channon had left Saints a couple of seasons before CN came in.
  7. In hindsight I feel sorry for Chris Nichol for his time as manager, and the fact he never really had a real opportunity again. Have to admit that at the time I saw CN as being a mediocre manager, and by the time he left we were appearing to stagnate. But little did I realise it could get so horribly worse... Following Lawrie was an impossible task, both on and off the pitch as CN did not inspire confidence in how he appeared with the media. The Mark Dennis episode lost him a lot of support as well. We did however play some exciting stuff for a year with him, 89-90, with the emergence of Merrington's youth team. Don't agree he was more negative than Branfoot, Dave Jones etc. I think the Channon view stems from when they were players, and did not get on. (At the time CN was manager, I think Channon played the MLT role to Nichol's Cortese, forever berating him to the press.).
  8. f... there's a name from the past !
  9. Just hope there's no 'backlash' from a defeat at the Etihad then... fortnight before the League Cup final as well ( same week as a replay presumably as well). Winnable. We are due to beat them, this is it...
  10. Is Mandaric still chairman there ? Just to a bit of spice to it.
  11. Only if you are able to get a ticket though...neither will be a large allocation I'm assuming so unlikely to reach general sale to members
  12. Wonder if the Arab owners would just allow NC a licence to run the club however he sees fit, without them taking an active close interest ?
  13. Don't think Yeovil are quite good enough to put 6 past us, but with your team including Hooiveld (O.G), Fox, in defence and Gazzaniga in goal it might be worth an outside bet
  14. Youngest badger & I have just demolished our (lucky) full English breakfast before leaving from Gloucestershire - not as sunny as Devon. Took me back to 1976, as a youngster I think my Mum fuelled me for every round - bar Bradford away - on a fully cooked breakfast. Bit older and mindful of cholesterol I have vowed to limit these now to FA Cup days only. Anyway I'll settle for a 3-1 Saints. Like Ottery I suspect Gallagher to play some part.
  15. Many on here questioned the signing, bloke did not want to come here from May onwards, it was inevitable that there would be some unrest eventually. And you're right about it being a shame ; undoubted talent, but mentally skewed and the gamble that MP might get Osvaldo's head in gear simply has not worked.
  16. Yes- I did realise that, but thanks for clarifying for the masses. I would not want someone such as Ottery to get the wrong end of the stick when he reads the board after he's done the hoovering
  17. I think we all knew we were buying a crock of trouble, why be surprised at this ? Just the timing is p!ss poor.
  18. fonte's wife involved again ?
  19. probably better qualified in that regard than Lowe was then No Mr Krueger, no...don't you f'king dare do it... ..does emphasise why Americans & Canadians should not meddle in our national sport * *along with chinks, Malaysians, and Arabs etc to a lesser extent,
  20. Disappointing news really, although it may very well be that the preferred option has a notice period etc. Although this chap may be capable, and better things are lined up, it is the uncertainty that concerns me, especially if we are trying to persuade MP to commit to the project further, without him knowing who he'll be working with/answerable to next season. Ideally, the remains of this season should have given him the opportunity to build the relationship with the new CEO (as well as winning the FA Cup of course).
  21. Racking my brain today, as to the last young player of any note produced by Bristol City - Gary Mabbutt is the only one I can think of, in the what 1980's ? Rovers on the other hand used to develop through the ranks - mostly from South Wales. I think I read once that in the 50's or 60's they once fielded an entire team of Welshmen.
  22. Both had trials, or were attached to Saints at one point.
  23. London was prolific - Wallaces as Otttery states, Agboola, Williams, plus others who moved on Steve Neville, 'Chicken George'etc. Newcastle of course produced Shearer, Tont Sealy , (ok so it was responsible for Steve Baker ..).
  24. Its simply a reverse of the Ajax kit, in those terms its impossible for them to mess it up.
  25. Bath centre had been going for years though, certainly in the 80's during Lawrie's time.
