    martin allen

Not surprisingly the story is front page news in the Gloucestershire Echo. The story is in the above link. This is the second drink fuelled incident involving Allen in Cheltenham town centre. He has not been the resounding success that people had hoped for although I'm sure he would blame it all on the clubs financial plight.Rather like Burley at one time,it was widely rumoured the club wanted to sack him but could not afford to.This might give the club the chance to get rid.
  2. Beckford rumour on 606 = Bo.Locks rumour in my view.
  3. Yes remember going in there c1970 after being dragged around town by my mother. It was on the circuit ie Tyrell&Green,Plummers,C&A before we got into the main drag of the High Street, winding our way down to Edwin Jones.Lyons might be a port of call on the return journey before retracing our steps. If I was lucky we might fit Toomers in,and possibly the toy dept of Woolworths in their basement. Torture at the time for an under 10,but sadly realise now how much better the city and its High Street was then.
  4. Bests fish&chip shop in Middle Street .
  5. Last thing I read or heard was that he was playing in Australia. Not the way his career once seemed destined but it may be that he has not fulfilled his potential or the expectation of him.

    Leyton Orient

Is that not their main stand,or is it a replacement for the terrace we crammed full in 1978 when we clinched promotion and the wall collapsed ?
  7. Are they not holding a candlelit vigil tonight at Liverpool Cathedral in memory of the beach ball ? Or perhaps they can blame the Sunderland stewards or Police for opening the turnstyle the little retard came through.
  8. Yes,vivid memories of that.Tell it to my kids now and they don't believe me.

    Trotman?

That was also my understanding of events. When he signed I think someone put a link to a PNE forum where this was widely talked of,to the point that Trotman would not be playing for Irvine again.
  10. On reflection you might be right. Any advances on 1989 ?
  11. Actually you are correct. Its not Moulineux. As much as I detest Everton I don't think they have fallen out the league yet.
  12. Andy Townsend is probably the last one to make it as a first team regular. Although Gittens is more recent. Paul Moody ? Never a regular.
  13. Disappointing that they have scraped in as you know they will regroup and turn it round in time to be a force in the finals. Anyone see the photo of Dago Maradona on the BBC site ? http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/internationals/8308103.stm Any similarity with Ken Dodd is purely coincidental.
  14. From my childhood I always remember the 'Strong Country' signs on the road when travelling down to visit relatives. From later years I recall many pubs, especially the Eldridge Pope ones, and of course The Juniper Berry on a trawl through town. And of course ice hockey watching the Vikings.
  15. Remember that place ! There was one bar, a 'snug' I think,at the front that was smaller than a living room.
  16. I hope he does well and builds a successful career. This was the ideal level for him to start at,rather than being thrown in at the deep end with us on a downward spiral .
  17. -15,but they had cleared that deficit in about 6 games.
  18. So might I.Did you go to the Weymouth tie ? Frightening prospect but we are only two rounds from the possibility of Saints facing Totton,Eastleigh or even Bishops Cleeve.
  19. I agree with you but he has been considered by many (wrongly in my view) as a journeyman and a bit of a failure because of his short stints at Bristol City and then Blackburn.
  20. As you say,it is "bizarre".An arab employing a jew as the saviour of the club A friend of Fialka's perhaps ? If Peter Storrie manages to keep a lid on this then clearly he has missed his true calling and should be redeployed as an EU middle-east peace envoy.
  21. Good one.
  22. Surely we should just borrow (plagiarise) from the tune on Youtube. Anyone have a clue what this music is ? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bnb_LvF1mkY
  23. Agree that this trophy provides an opportunity for a great day out.The chance to take the 'young badgers' to Wembley to watch their team there is a great possibility also. That will give them some edge over the glory seeking saps at their school who 'support' the mancs etc. I've seen Saints on each of their four visits to Wembley (F.A Cup,Charity Shield,League Cup,and The Zeta Jones Cup) but couldn't go to Totton V Truro due to falling ill on the day of the final. So this would be a good chance. Lets not forget though there are some formidable obstacles in our way though.Bournemouth away for instance ?
  24. I think this name was first mooted a week or so back on here.
  25. Pompey could sell us theirs cheaply. Maybe not...
