what happens if Pinacle/MLT retain Wotte as manager
Lord Duckhunter replied to Thedelldays's topic in The Saints
Agreed 100%, and why are people banging on about him running the youth. All the young players (save for Lloyd James) seemed to get worse, the longer he coached them. Lallana went backwards rapidly as did Morgan S. I keep seeing people saying he works well with youth, on what evidence? He's hardly the next Dave Merrington or George Prost. -
Ronnie Moore for me. I would be happy with Tisdale, provided he had an "older head" as asst. Not sure how much he relies on Perryman at Exeter, but personally I'd like a asst thats been around the game a while. I think comparisons with Martin O Neil are a bit much at present. Yes, O Neil started in the lower leagues, however he was a top class player. Played in European Finals and a World Cup. He was Captain of the NI 1982 in Spain I believe. He also played in the top flight under a genius. O Neil may not have needed an older head to help him, but I think Tisdale will.

When Pearson was appointed I'm sure I saw Matt on Sky, saying that he thought Micky Adams or Dowie would have been a better bet. Whether that has any bearing on this now is another matter. As for Wotte's "old boys network" I would rather have that than the Kim/Jan/ Wotte "total football" network.

Wotte's job offer, Surman bid, Rasiak to go cheaply
Lord Duckhunter replied to NickG's topic in The Saints
I dont trust Wotte and dont believe he's had any decent offers from abroad, certainly nothing to compare to what he's got now (which is saying something). I think he's trying to push the owners into a corner, whilst appearing not to. Where has this respect for Wotte and the job he did come from. He was a large part of the worst Managerial team we've ever had, and was hardly any better on his own. He sucked up to Lowe, until Lowe left when he tried to put a bit of distance between themselves. It was his team that was so shocking against Charlton and a couple of other games. Have we fallen so Low, that he is now considered to have done a good job? Any previous Manager would have been run out of town with results like Wotte's, let alone the sly digs at parts of the fan base.People seem to praise him for signing JPS and not being Jan, oh and acting decently during admin. -
There are thousends of people being repossessed all over the Country by all the major banks. There are thousends of business' going into admin all over the Country. Why should SLH be treated differently than any of them? Particulary when you consider what our turnover was 4 years ago. As painful as the present situation, I fail to see what Barclays have done wrong. Since 1997 we have been constantly told that we're a business, Barclays treated us as such, to then demend special treatment is wrong. IMO

Didn't Leeds' CVA involve paying a greater part of the debt back when they return to the Premier league? Surely Barclays and Aviva's interests would be better served by this sort of agreement with us, rather than the liquadation of the Club.Couldn't they accept X amount in the pound now, followed by a far greater amount if we return to the top flight. -
If anyone other than Shearer took over Newcastle for the last few games, and they'd played as poorly he'd be getting some serious clog from the media. Had it been Sven that couldn't catch Hull, took 4 points from Pompey, Boro and Fulham at home, and then surrendered like that againt Villa, the press would be calling it failure. There has been nothing in Shearer's short managerial career that sugests he'll be the answer to Newcastle's problems, let alone ours.

This is a great point and something I've ben thinking fow a while. Even Leeds with Ken Bates money and massive attendances are fast becoming an established League 1 team. My fears are that we constantly change Managers and owners, posioning the Club with demands of an instant return to the CCC, and also talk of 5 year plans for Prem ect.My fear is that the people needed on and off the pitch to staedy the ship and rebuild, will not be given time to rebuild the Club.We need to judge the people coming in against what we are now, than against what we've been the past generation. My opinion is we need a sustainable steady rebuild of the Club to make us attractive to someone with money once economy starts to look up again. -
How bad does he have to be before people want him out? Part of the "duo" during Jans reign, average his points out over the season and we'd have still have gone down, some awful performances when it really mattered, and people still want him? On what basis, 3 wins in a row when he first took over, and a few rallying cries on the O/S?

I'm going to take my overdraft elsewhere.

Lowe, Wilde and Crouch ALL made mistakes the past 5 years. ALL of them say they are passionate Saints fans. ONE of them has stepped up to the plate post Admin, whilst the other 2 have done nothing. Yet he is the one getting stick from some fans, am I the only one who finds that a bit strange?
-
This would be a real boost if true. He'll be head and shoulders above any other keeper in this league (if he plays like last season). I really can't see it happening, but fingers crossed. Not seen Forcast play, but he's a different class to Bart.

It's unique to the Cotswold's hunting set.

Only at Southampton could a bloke (whoever he is) provide the money to keep us going (whether a loan or donation) and still be slagged off. Let's give credit where it's due. Had Lowe done this the Luvvies would be having an orgasism.

The Premiership needs to be more competitive. All the other leagues(in England) are, but we can all name the top 4 next season, and proberly the season after that. Even in America the home of free enterprise the govening bodies realise the NFL works because its competitive.Although we have nothing like the draft system, merchendising and gate money could be spread evenly around the league. Everybody seems to think the play offs are a good idea, therefore, why not have play off's between 4th,5th,6th and 7th for the final Champions league spot? Not only will it generate interest it will also share some of that money around. However nothing will change, because the FA are too concerned with the big 4, breaking away.

Nick Leeson didn't cause the crash of Barings Bank, it was the people employed before him. Leeson was just clearing up their mess.........

Lowe makes an even bigger mammary gland of himself...
Lord Duckhunter replied to alpine_saint's topic in The Saints
Didn't Lowe and Wilde ask him to stay on? So the great business brain that is Rupert Lowe, must have thought he was worth it. -
Course I did, comparing that attendance following their cup win to MC's testimonal in '76. The point is, if they were in dire financial strights and had a benfit game which attracted 4,000, we'd be ****ing our pants. Before this thread desends into another Anti Lawrie which hunt, people should ask themselves what it looks like to supporters of other Clubs. Considering more turn up at testimonals for millionaires,4,000 is shocking.
-
In my opinion only 4,000 turning up for a benefit game to help towards the Club is a pretty poor show.If Pompey were in a similar situation and only 4,000 turned up, I'd be giving my Skate boss some serious stick. What ever anyones thoughts on the players or cost of the tickets, Clubs of our size and catchment area should be getting a few more than that in our hour of need. Wont look very good for perspective new owners and if the Council are looking to buy the ground, what message does it tell them? Lawrie is right to be shocked.
-
Perhaps our new owners should branch out into Radio and give us the coverage we deserve. What a visionary move that would be...............

Luton offered to pay the taxman 100% of what was owed them, and they still opossed the CVA. They are opossing every football one on principle until the Football Creditors rule is changed, by the FL. If the revenue get a vote on the CVA, we're stuffed. As others have pointed out, hopefully they wont get a say in it.

The £40m takeover bid that Saints turned down
Lord Duckhunter replied to John B's topic in The Saints
Why people are still argueing over this is beyond me.Take the emotion out of it and ask supporters of other Clubs whih position they would rather be in, ours or Cov's. It's a no brainer. I accept that Bill Gates or some sort of multi millionaire might take us over, but failing that the motives of any new owner will be the same as SISU's were (to make money). The fact is we're now a league lower, starting with -10 (possible more),unsure whether we'll even have a club, and throwing coins into buckets to pay the bills.Yet people still think we were right to turn down SISU-Unbelievable. -
The supporters put the pride back into the Club today. We can go to League 1 with our heads held high after fantastic support. Whatever players play, whoevers in the boardroom, with support like that, we'll be ok.
