  1. We couldn't cope without Lambert at present, but that's mainly down to the lack of a replacement up front. Would also worry if one of the two centre halfs were injured. I think we can rotate around other injuries (as proved by managing ok without AL). We really do need another target man to bring in as cover for RL, and Martin doesn't totally convince me.
  2. You dont seriously believe he wasn't executed do you? Eye witness' are claiming that his son was captured alive, but he then turned up dead a few minutes later. I'm all for the death penalty, all for mass murderers being exacuted and filmed on mobile phones, but I'm not selective about it. If some hairy grunt did for Huntley during an "incident" in prison, Cameron and the rest of the two faced bastards would be condemning it.
  3. Shot, instead of being put on trial. The Israelis would have been condemned by Leftie's everywhere had they done the same thing.
  4. First Bin Laden and now Gaddafi, and British politicans lining up to rejoice. Funny that because is it was Huntley, Fred West or Hindly they'd bang on about the death penalty having no place in a civilised society.
  5. What on earth are you on about? I never mentioned benefits once, just said "had she considered getting a part time job". Surely that is one of her options, places like ASDA and Tesco are still expanding and taking on part timers, perhaps she could work from home. I dont know, and to be blunt I dont really care. I have enough to worry about in my own life, struggling to pay my bills. My point was and remains that in my opinion too many people look to the state to help them with their problems. Welfare is an insurance fund that everybody pays into via the tax system. It is then a safety net for people who are struggling, to ensure that people are fed and have some money to live on. Once you've received this welfare, its up to you how you spend it, you have the same issues that working people have, my Mortgage may go up, so may her rent. Deal with it, like I have to. Once the state has paid the welfare, it should get the hell out of people's lives and leave them to get on with them. You cant have councillours micro managing people's lives.
  6. Surely any verdict will have an influence of Redknapps case, so you cant really draw a conculsion either way.
  7. This is good news for the local economy. Perhaps we could also temp the English team to be based in a SO hotel. Think of the extra revenue the Clubs and pubs would receive if the team were based in the City..........
  8. I would ask her whether she had heard of the CAB, whether she has considered moving to a smaller place, whether she could cut down on some of her spending, or whether she could get a part time job to cover the rent rise. I would also point out to her that in a free market landlords can put the rent up.I would finish off by asking her exactly what she wanted me to do about it, did she want to use my spare room, did she want a loan off me, did she want me to build her a house? I would end by saying that if she didn't like it, she could place her X somewhere else next time, and if enough people agreed with her, then I would lose my £120,000 a year job (perhaps I could write to my reploacement asking for advise on living after losing so much money). I still dont see how that makes me or him a hypocrite. Unless he stood for election under the banner of "Vote for me and I'll help with all your problems" and then told her to **** off. I dont want my councillors wasting time on helping people pay their rent, when the answers are bleeding obvious. If less people looked to the state to help them, then maybe we could cut down on the number of state officals, and cut down on the obscene amount of money we pay these career politicans.
  9. Labour sleaze-Trolling.
  10. "I am afraid you have to live in the real world where the country has no money and residents will have to deal with their own issues rather than expecting 'the system' to sort their lives out. This correspondence is now closed." That is exactly what I would have told her. Just because she doesn't like the answer, why does that make him a hypocrite?
  11. I'm contracted to do 39 hours, but the bosses line is that I do whatever hours it takes to do my job. There is no O/T or TOIL for extra hours as I'm salaried. I tend to do an hour a day and more if needed. However, because I've built up quite a lot of goodwill, am not seen as taking the **** (unlike other Managers), I get to leave early when I need to, slip in extra days off occasionaly and generally do the hours I want to.I Manage 50 odd staff and sometimes ask them to stay on (they however do get paid O/T), because they can see that I put the hours in, they are quite willing to do so.Whereas other managers who take the ****, struggle to get extar out of their teams. My advise (for what it's worth) is to do a great job early on, be prepared to do extra for nothing, win the trust of the bosses, and most will treat you well. I've not been questioned about my hours or working day or even holidays, for the past 9 years, and all I now do is half an hour early and stay half an hour late, and once in a while put a bit extra in. The ones who clock watch end up getting more ****e from the boss, and end up worrying about work whislt at home. For the sake of 5 hours a week, I have stress free time off and more job satisfaction.
  12. The Labour Govt had 2 choices, let the banks fold or bail them out. Just because they decided to bail them out, does not give every Tom, **** and Harry the right to call on the state to help with all their problems. I've started to ride my bike to work to save on petrol, perhaps I should have written to the PM demanding petrol money instead, after all "they bailed the banks out", and "I didn't cause the ecomonic crash".
  13. Perhaps he could go and met our troops and make a "job done" speech. How can you say that it has been a sucsess, when we know nothing about the "victors". Dont forget we were on Bin Laden's side when the mujahideen were fighting the Russians.
  14. I've had a feeling from early on that Nigel is our new Lawrie Mac. The big man would approve of his style of play and the players seem to love playing for him. However lets not forget what Lawrie actually did. Forget about top 2 finish's, that's pretty much impossible these days, but just remember the talent Lawrie brought to the club and the youngsters he (along with others) devoloped. Nigel is playing football in a similar style, but we've yet to see if he can attract the talent and devolop a constant stream of young talent. My gut feeling is that when he retires or leaves us, Nigel will be up there with Ted and Lawrie, but it's early days.Lets have 10 years of the Adkins diet, before he goes off to manage England.
  15. The "goal" was right in front of me and the ref did make a cock up. However, the whistle clearly blew and Almunia seemed to only make a half hearted effort once he heard it. SDR may still have finished, and the ref should have seen if he did and pulled it back if not, but I think Almunia would have made the finish harder if he hadn't heard the whistle.
  16. Why do people always look to the state or local officals to sort out their problems. If my mortgage goes up to a level that I cant afford, should I write to a councillor for "advise"?
  17. I started off settling for finishing above the Skates even if that meant mid table. I then amended this about a month ago to play offs, and I'm now really starting to think about promtion. It's not just the results we're getting but the manner we're playing in. Defeat at Leicester was unlucky and we should have beaten Derby, whilst our wins in the main have been pretty convincing, maybe Forest & Milwall had a touch of luck about them, but that is streaching the point slightly,as we were still the better side. Injuries in certain positions maybe the thing that derails us. Centre half and upfront we look light to me. The full back and midfield I believe we can cope with (whilst losing AL was a blow, I thought Chaplow stepped up to the plate). If we lost Ricky for a length of time, I would start to worry. Hopefully Adkins ect have a plan B if this happens.
  18. I never liked Scousers and used to use all the old Cliché's, some of which I reread on this thread. However after meeting and working with hundreds of them, I have made many friends for life. The country would be a fair better place if more communities were like theirs.Of course there are some idiots, but there are idiots everywhere. The climate at the time meant that this was a disaster waiting to happen. Had Southampton been playing in that Semi Final and the same numbers attended the game, would our support not have taken a drink. Would some ticketless fans not have turned up and tried to get in, would people have not left it too late to get in for kick off and rushed to get in. Are people seriously trying to say that Southampton fans would have queued nicely whilst the game had started, would have all stayed sober, and behaved like good model citizens? The police are there to protect us, and look after the publics safety, even if some of the public are misbehaving ( as a minority of all supporters did and still do). They failed in their duty and I find it highly offensive that people look to blame the Liverpool fans, and the establishment looked to cover it up. The 96 who lost their lives that day, were just supporters, just like the 32,000 turning up at SMS tonight, and we should all back their friends and families search for the truth.
  19. What I tried to do when my fixed rate ended was to go onto the SVR, continue to budget as if I was paying the fixed rate, and save the difference. The money saved can then be offset against interest rate rises in the future, whilst keeping one eye out ready to fix once rates start to go up. It looked good on paper, but in practise the £100 per month less that I pay Nationwide , has just been swallowed up by other bills and not saved.
  20. I was working abroad with a lot of Scousers when it happened and it had a massive effect on them, both red and blue. Some of the guys had friends and family at the game, and the whole expat community came together to raise money for the victims. My personal view is that the police/autherities covered a lot up. That the police policed football without a thought to public safety, just public order. However, football supporters from most clubs contributed to the police's attitudes by misbehaving regulary. The climate at the time was one of the reasons for this diaster.
  21. My old man was a Building Society Manager for 30 years and the best bit of advise he ever gave me was to look at your mortgage as rent and not a debt. After 25 years of paying rent, you are then given the house rent free. Obviously you are liable for repairs ect, but generally I've always had a pretty relaxed attitude towards my Mortgage as I would have to pay rent somewhere if I didnt have this "debt".
  22. Our winning home run will have to come to an end soon. I would take a point tomorrow, provided we win on Sat.
  23. Spot on and it is why these idiots who the BBC wheel out every now and again to bang on about "child poverty" in the uk, really **** me off. It's an insult to the millions of poor people around the world, and to the past generations in this country that really did have nothing. There was a Woman on QT the other week asking how she was going to put food on the table, as she had suffered a "pay freeze". I'm sure people who really live from hand to mouth dont have time to pop onto QT and whine about how poor they are. We have too many people in this country who consider the defination of "poor" to be, someone without the latest phone, holiday, car or TV. My Grandmother died at 98 leaving just £300.However she would have been proud of that having struggled all her life as my Grandad had Multiple Sclerosis and was in a wheel chair for years(in an era when there wasn't much help). She never once considered herself poor or complained about what she could not afford.
  24. Alan Sugar was on Talksport last night, he was talking about The Skates. Said it was a disgrace that they were allowed to continue, and that they should have been wound up and thrown out of the leagues.Said it's just plain wrong that millionaire players got paid in full, but builders and local people got shafted. I know it's old hat, but finally the myth of plucky Portsmouth is wearing thin with other supporters around the country.
  25. On The Press Pass on Talksport lat night Matt Dickinson of the Times said the "American owners" in the PL were driving this. Said exactly what you said, they want an NFL Franchise sysytem. He claimed that they did want a wage cap bought into place, other wise all the extra money earned from this closed shop will just gush into the players pockets. If they set the wage cap at a level that only a champions league club could afford, it will control their costs, but keep the Villa's, Spurs ect in their place.
