Robbie Robertson was pretty good in carny, (Jodie Foster was hot in that) as was Kris Kristofferson in Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid (good that is, not hot).

When I think about some of the dross we've watched the past 3/4 years, I think Seabourne is a pretty decent prospect. Certainly he can get better, but you need players who are going to improve as we move up through the Leagues. There aren't going to be too many Centre halfs that are the finished article at his age.I thought we wanted a coaching structure that identified young talent and improved them, not sold them as soon as the first offer comes in.

I was born in Southampton, but Dad’s job took him away when I was young and we never moved back. All my kids support Saints and yet none of them were born in the City or have ever lived in it. They just follow my team (they have had it rammed down their throats since youngsters). After the away game at Swindon this season my little lad who is 11 said “I wish you had never been born in Southampton”. My Dad used to watch Saints one week and Boscombe the next and gradually started to travel back to Southampton less and less, whereas I kept it up and never considered watching Boscombe regular. I go to the game with a crowd of guys from Poole and I’m the only one who was born in Southampton. However, I am the one who goes to the least amount of away games out of all of us. A part of me does wonder why they never supported Boscombe, I guess when they were younger they just followed the bigger and better localish club. At the end of the day, we are all supporters, whether you were born and bred in the City, born and moved away or just follow the club with no obvious ties to it. It’s not for others to judge who is a real supporter (unless you’re talking about the ones who have abandoned us since the Premiership days).

Chris Marsden, Bridge, Antti Niemi, and Michael Svensson must get a mention for effort and guts. His attempts to make a comeback were unbelieveable. I would therefore give it to Killer, not only for his efforts on the comeback trail, but I belive he's the only player of the past decade (Matt aside) that would get in a Saints "all time" best team. On his day, he's up there with the best we've ever had.

My local when I lived in the States, put the price of the beer up on New Years eve. The American owner didn't understand that we Brits wouldn't stand for it. He soon did when about 30 expats all walked out and went to a bar down the road. He never did that again.

Uncomfortable player meetings......
Lord Duckhunter replied to georgeweahscousin's topic in The Saints
I was always moaning about Colin Clarke and never rated him.One night me and a few mates were out and he was stood at the bar. One of my mates said something along the lines of "go on then, tell him what you tell us every week". Seeing as I had consumed a few I went over and told him.He was pretty good about it really, just said some comment along the lines of (I was a bit ****ed so cant really recall 100%) "who do you play for, what do you know about the game".I alsogot told to "**** off" by Stewart Ripley after giving him some abuse when he came near my seat at The Dell. The nicest bloke I met was Ken Monkou, who introduced me and my Mrs to his mum, when we saw him out. Away from football we bumped into Jim Bowan once in the 100 club at a jazz night, he got up and did a couple of numbers with the band.My mate said "that was super smashing lovely singing Jim", to which Bowan turned and said "**** off you ****". -
Who would have thought 10 years ago that we would be facing Premiership top 8 side Blackpool in the FA Cup and hoping for a giant killing. Even the most one eyed Skate couldn't have hoped for that, when he saw the new year in 10 years ago.

I have spent far too many NYE's expecting a great night and ending up wandering from pub to pub trying to find the right venue. We used to go to the Lord Nelson on Poole Quay, which was a great night under the old landlord who left 10 years ago, since then we've never really found a replacement venue. We've given up now, and tonight me the kids and Mrs Duck are eating out at an Italian and then going home about 10.I must be getting old, but I'm really looking forward to

You are right, however any Govt that containts Leftie Ken Clarke can hardly be called Tory. It comes to something when the lefties are on the right of a Tory Govt when it comes to crime and punishment.

If we followed your logic, we could have pornos on C4 every night, there are other channels to watch.

Nigel Farage's Christmas Message To The EU Bureucrats
Lord Duckhunter replied to dune's topic in The Lounge
I would have thought wanting to withdraw from the EEC was a bit more than a promise. How can you go from anti EEC to pro Europe in under 4 short years. The Labour party seem to adopt the "you dont like my principles, here's another set" approach to winning elections. Say what you like about Thatcher, but she stuck to what she believed in and took the people with her.You cant say the same about the Labour movement. -
Nigel Farage's Christmas Message To The EU Bureucrats
Lord Duckhunter replied to dune's topic in The Lounge
I would have thought the Anti Maggie lefties on here would have agreed with Farage, after all they fought the '83 election with the very same policy. Although unlike farage they changed their position and did an about turn when they lost (there's nothing like sticking by your principles) -
Thatcher is the greatest women the world has ever known
Lord Duckhunter replied to dune's topic in The Lounge
Correct, why is it that fools like Benn and Foot, whose policies would have ruined the Country (luckily the British people had more sense), are treated like respected elder statesmen, when they were wrong about every major issue? She changed the Labour Party as well as the Country. Just think what would have happened had Foot won the election. It's ok people spouting their leftie anti Maggie stuff on here, but with tax rates of 33% & 85%, the unions holding the country to ransom and the Labour party committed to state ownership, someone needed to sort the mess out. Grocer Heath and the Tory wets weren't going to do it.We handed the Sick man of Europe title to someone else years ago, and that's not because of Heath , Foot, Kinnock or Benn. -
I think I read somewhere during another series that the 2 finalists work for Sugar for a couple of months and then he decides, it's not down to the last task but how they did during those 2 months. I'm also sure I've read that he's taken on a couple of the others who didn't win before, to fullfill roles in his Company they're suited to as well. I dont believe for one minute that Sugar didn't know all about Baggs' blagging on his CV. It was just editted to look like his man found out the details just before the interview, they have researchers and look into everyones background and claims before the show starts. He knew full well when firing Liz that Baggs was going the next week, great entertainment, but done to make the show better (which it did do).

Thatcher is the greatest women the world has ever known
Lord Duckhunter replied to dune's topic in The Lounge
She wasn't the greatest women ever, but we owe her a debt of gratitude for picking up the "sick man of Europe" and for sorting out Labour's mess in 1979. She was more in tune with the British people than all the Lefties put together, that's why Labour abolished clause 4 and only won elections when they moved to the right. -
She looked fit on the "Your fired" show though, I'd let her clean my place.

If higher taxes were the answer then we wouldn't have needed Thatcher's tories to sort out Grocer Heath's and the Labour Party's mess in 1979. It's not a question of higher tax rate, it is the total tax take people should look at. Thatcher inherited tax rates of 33% for basic tax payers and 83% on higher rated tax payers. These were reduced significantly and yet tax take went up. Too much of our money is wasted and we still pay too much tax.

Are Tories just greedy people? Discuss
Lord Duckhunter replied to Fuengirola Saint's topic in The Lounge
Who said "We have no plans to introduce University top-up fees, and have legislated to prevent their introduction"? The dishonest Lib/Dems? The nasty Party? No, it was the Labour party. Who then went onto introduce top up fees. The only party that was stright with the British people over this was the Tories. -
Good job there weren't internet forums around in the 70's, I'm sure more than a few supporters would have said Lawrie was "out of his depth" and "not good enough" after a few months in charge. Saturday wasn't good enough, but we haven't been good enough all season, we should have hit the ground running and that's down to Pardew not Adkins. This is his squad of players that are totally disinterested and had we been up the top when he left and Adkins had overseen the wheels coming off or had a run like Lawrie did when Ted stood down, then there then maybe some of the moaners would have a point.Basically the players have been underperforming under Pardew, Wilkins and Adkins so it's time we looked at them and stopped blaming the Manager all the time. What do people want, another change? Pardew got the Newcastle job on the back of his friendship with Ashley and his cronies. My opinion is he that once we missed out on promotion last year he was looking for an out. Had NC not sacked him, then maybe we'd be looking for a new man now instead of 2 months ago.You have to allow a new manager to mould his own team before judgeing him, sign his own players before saying he's "out of his depth". And so what if he speaks a load of nonsense, personally I never really found WGS "jokes" that funny. Holloway gets away with it because he's doing well, at Leicester he got the nick name Hollohead because of the nonsense he spoke. It's all down to results, get them and your a charactor and funny, dont and you're a idiot who speaks nonsense.

I've never found film of it, but there's plenty of audio clips including youtube. He did have a great voice (although I'm Down, Paul sung lead). Here's a great example. [video=youtube;UaRz-3DYV7c] and I love this clip of him and his love of rock and roll again.

BBC state Pardew get Newcastle job within 24 hrs.
Lord Duckhunter replied to Paul Chuckle's topic in The Saints
The length of the contract means nothing in terms of compo nowadays. A guy from the LMA was on the radio the other day and he said that nowadays the contracts have severance terms written into them. He said the standard terms was normally a years salary, so even if he has 4 years left on his contract, he'll only get a years pay. With the top managers the club also insert an amount another club would have to pay if the they want to take your Manager, but I doubt they'll need that for Pards. You can understand how the Toon supporters feel, they could proberly except Houghton going, for O Neil or someone similar, but for Pardew????? I wonder how Chris Houghton feels, his first decent job, beats Arsenal away, smashes Sunderland and gets replaced by Pards. I hope he gets another job soon, he deserves a chance. -
I remember it clearly, my younger sister had a paper round and woke up early and heard it on the radio as she was getting ready. Came into my room woke me up and told me, as I was a big Beatles fan. Just can not believe it's now 30 years ago. This is my favourite clip of John. Despite having written some of the greatest songs ever, it's not one of his. It's not even a particulary great performance, but it's him with one of his hero's, along with the women he loved, having a great time. Despite the peace and love stuff, he always remained a rock and roller at heart. Riphttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h9kgu71d81U&feature=related

My understanding is that if the UK transmission can be picked up in Germany, via Sky ect, than an offense has been committed and an arrest warrant can be issued. The issue was brought up on the infamous QT programme involving Nick Griffin. Jack Straw did not deny this was the case, but said that as Justice Sec (at the time) he would ensure that Griffin would not face this if he denied it on the programme (he was trying to goad Griffin into spouting his racist nonsense). We have all seen in the 2003 Extradition act with the US, how weak our Govt is when it comes to sticking up for it's citizens in the face of foregin arrest warrants. Fair trials international an independent organsation believes that the EAW's are an injustice and in some cases has led to British citizens being jailed without a fair trial. I find it unbelievable that we do not extradite non EU citizens to countries where we belive they wont receive a fair trial and yet wave through British citizens to their fate and unfair trials in EU countries.Look at Gary Mann's "trial" in Portugal.

I agree, I find all this talk of “ trophy” embarrassing. It’s not even taken seriously by the big hitters in League 1 or 2, let alone the rest of football. It was a good day out for my 10 year old and gave him some reward for the rubbish he’ s had to watch since starting to follow football, but it’s not anything to be bragging about. Bloody Hell, had The Skates been banging on about this trophy during the 45 years we were above them, I’d have laughed my nuts off. Let’s have a bit of perspective here, it’s a nothing competition and it doesn’t become a important one just because we won it.
