A cheer you up present from West Ham and the KUMBrigade
norwaysaint replied to Saint86's topic in The Saints
So football fans of two different teams aren't impartial on their own message boards. Shocking stuff indeed. -
Oh come on, you tit! Most British people, including me, celebrate if we win the Ashes. A competition in a sport most people in the world have never even seen played, between a grand total of two countries. Winning the rugby World Cup could mean defeating such giants as tonga, Samoa, Fiji or at it's peak, New Zealand, with a population below 5 million. Canada won the highest accolade in their national sport, good for them, if I were Canadian, I'd celebrate it too and even though I'm not, I can still appreciate a great result for them. By the way, what you call hockey is commonly known as field hockey, their hockey is ice hockey, makes sense that whichever one you play, you'd just call hockey.

I think that tells everybody all they need to know about you. good Olympics really. Nice for Russia to dominate as hosts, good results for Britain and a good second place for my adopted home, although they're only disappointed with the male skiers under-performing. a couple of drug issues going on, but then there always has to be a couple.

It's a bit of a mistake to say it's the Scandinavian countries that care about it anyway. There are only three countries in Scandinavia and I'd imagine the Danish have even less interest than the British. Sweden has a bit of interest, but are only 13 th in the medal table, not that far above Britain. Let's face it, nobody on Earth takes this more seriously than the Norwegians. Every Norwegian above the age of 3 owns at least one pair of cross country skis, probably downhill skis a year or two later and Ski school is part of normal education in many schools. If you have any talent for competitive skiing in this country, it will not go unnoticed, unlike in most other countries where there may be the best potential skiers in the world who never even try the sport.

Roy will take Townsend even if people on here wouldn't. I don't think that Lambert and JRod are really good enough for England, but the alternatives aren't really good enough either, so there's a chance. Lallana will go though. As has been mentioned loads of times, it's all down to which way Hodgson goes with Shaw. There's a good reason for moving on from Cole and Shaw is the future, but Cole has rarely let England down and is undoubtedly class, so is a safe choice. I think they're both good enough, but Cole will probably go. Clyne may have been an outside choice at one point, but now he can't hold down a starting place with us, must be well out of the picture. I'd be amazed if Cork were picked, but I think he could do a decent job. JWP has no chance at all.

Is Miley Cirus on the verge of some sort of break down?
norwaysaint replied to Batman's topic in The Lounge
She really is the poster girl for how girls can portray themselves as victims isn't she? Desperately waving her fanny and arse in everyone's faces trying to make them see her as an adult. It's a bit depressing when your kids have seen her as any kind of role model before. -
The biathlon today was utterly superb, although, as usual, you probably needed an interest in it. This one went down to a photo finish, as the Norwegian got cocky and threw his hands up to celebrate and glide over the line, allowing the French bloke behind to come storming through and come a hair's breadth from taking it. I like biathlon a lot, it adds a real extra element to it that they can be leading, but then be too exhausted to shoot straight and end up dropping ten places before they continue. It's a bit like making the people running a marathon stop every couple of miles and not letting them carry on until they've managed to thread a needle. People here have been pretty fed up about the Norwegian relay teams doing badly despite them having the best teams of skiers, due to their skis being badly waxed. It's not that they mind not winning, they just hate being soundly beaten on skis by the Swedes, who stormed both events.

Although, the summer olympics is obviously the main event, this is also a relevant event. Countries have different geographic situations, if a country is cold and mountainous, then why should there sporting endeavours be considered irrelevant, especially when there are enough of such countries to hold a genuine competition? It's a bit like saying there should be no sailing because some countries are land-locked, or swimming, because it's not a realistic sport for huge amounts of people living in Africa. It's just a load of sports that are part of the Olympics, but are impractical to hold side by side, so they have to be taken at a separate time. An Olympic medal is an Olympic medal. It's no different to if they had all of the pool events at a different time of year. It just helps to have an interest in the events.

I'm 3 episodes into the new series now and liking it a lot. Unlike Suits, where I could watch 3 or 4 episodes back to back, I always find one episode of this gives me enough to chew over for one night, certainly can't do more than 2. Bit of a shocker at the end of that first episode...

Spent a bit of time on The Last of Us, pretty good, but I'm not gripped by it yet. I got a bit more into Bioshock, which moves a bit faster. However it's Xcom that has really got me hooked at the moment, always trying to get in just one last mission. First person shooters really seem to dominate what I've seen for this platform so far. It's a nice way to watch Netflix too.

It's true that it's pretty much the same as it's always been. There has always been a group of posters who are here all the time and post on every thread, drawing complaints from everyone else. Ten years ago it was the likes of those two brothers, Scott and somebody, but there have been others. At the moment, you can't read a thread without it being filled up with exactly the same posts from the little gang of posters like Barry/Dune (who has been addicted to this place for as long as I remember), Turkish, Glasgow, etc), but it's not new. That sort of thing is all part of the forum and always has been. In a few years when the novelty has worn off for them, they will probably take their turn to be the ones complaining about the next wave of forum-spammers. This place was full of people posting stupid, irrelevant or trolling stuff when I first came here about 14 years ago and all that changes is who's doing it and who's complaining. If internet addicts posting **** on forums annoys you too much, places like this really aren't for you. I've always gone to other places if this place gets too unbearable.

Thanks for all that. I took the advice and got playstation plus, which seems an amazing deal, probably more free games there than I'll ever get time to play. I downloaded bio shock infinite, uncharted 3 and xcom for free, but there are a couple of others too.
-
Thanks for the advice so far, I'll see if I can pick up a couple of those some time, think I saw Uncharted 1 and 2 cheap in the shop.

I'm a good step behind here. Haven't really been playing video games in years. In fact San Andreas on the ps2 was probably the last game I was really into. This means that I have no need for a fancy ps4, when I've still got the last ten years of games to look forward to. i've picked up a cheap ps3 bundled with The Last of Us and GT6, but what other games from the last few years are the essentials that are worth picking up? I have no idea, but it doesn't need to be the latest releases, although I may get GTA 5 sooner or later. thanks

Two golds and two silvers put Norway back on top for now at least. You can tell an event is favoured towards one nation when Norway's best female skier falls over and doesn't qualify, then the next best hope loses her pole and is effectively out of the race in the final, but Norway still takes gold and silver.

In 16 years I have never heard anyone here use the name "winter" Olympics, they only ever call it the Olympics. Probably tells you all you need to know. Can't blame them though, they go from minor players in the proper Olympics, to slugging it out with Russia, USA and Germany for the top of the medal table.

There have been loads of news stories over here about council workers being banned from watching it during work time. People are outraged. They've lifted the ban now. it's kind of norway's major sporting event of the calendar, but that seemed a bit much to me.

So odd seeing Garry Monk becoming a regular premier league player and now manager, after so many years as an unused sub at saints. I think I might put some money on Aaron Martin going on to captain and manage Wrexham in the PL in ten years.
-
I use it to stay in touch with friends I've moved away from, to share photos with my family, but the trickiest thing has been that lots of the kids I used to teach added me. It's nice to know what they are doing now, but I try to secretly delete them after a bit, because having anyone under the age of 20 on your facebook feed is awful, mind you one of them is currently playing in the PL for a rival team and another plays for Notts County, wouldn't have known if they hadn't added me.

Unless Targett is ready, I don't think any of those options are good enough. All comments about Clyne being a decent cover are based on one match where he switched for the second half and was good, but ignore the game he started there and looked out of his depth. Clyne as our only cover just isn't good enough, but we don't want to buy another player who'll be satisfied with not starting and is only really championship level, because that's no better than Fox. Have to hope Targett can step up really.

These guys aren't just the best in the Southampton area, they've won awards in the trade for being the best in the country: http://www.romseyconservatory.com/

Remember when England had so many decent strikers that players like Ian Wright, Andy Cole and Kevin Phillips couldn't get in the team? I don't really think Lambert deserves to go, although I love him, but when you see that list, you wonder who deserves to go instead of him. I think only Lallana will go.

I've been duped! Thanks detective Bear, you've solved the case. Hoverboards are next year then. I can wait.

Talking of films, the big question is: Where are the ****ing hoverboards? They were supposed to be here by now, Marty McFly arrived 4 days ago!
