That's a great series, managing to be funny and dark at the same time. I'm a little bit in love with Saga Noren too. i like her attitude to meeting blokes.

Is homeownership as opposed to renting still a no-brainer?
norwaysaint replied to Halo Stickman's topic in The Lounge
A lot of houses here have a self contained part of their house that people rent out as a flat, often a whole floor of the house. This helps them meet the cost of their mortgage and of course when they are older and don't need the extra income anymore, they have a place where family can stay on a visit without everyone driving each other mad. Houses here are generally a bit bigger though. -
Mark Duggan family reacts with fury to inquest verdict of lawful killing

Maybe a bit harsh, but a gun-wielding criminal is not somebody I want walking the streets where my kids might find themselves. So I'm not devastated about this police error. Anyone that carries an illegal firearm is going to have to expect to be tackled by armed police and the danger of being shot for appearing to be an immediate threat. police get shot all the time, they have to make a very quick judgement about the situation and a jury decided this one fired for the right reasons. -
Unbelievably, a team of one time heroes has just become the worst England touring Ashes team and therefore probably the worst England team ever. http://www.bbc.com/sport/0/cricket/25631389 amazing that the likes of KP, Bell, Trott, Cook, Broad, Anderson, Prior, Swann, etc have managed to be even more mediocre than some of our mediocre greats of the last 30 years, who stood out for you as a low point in that time? I'd name Atherton, long serving captain, batsman who averaged about 35, always lost. Phil DeFreitas, bowler who never seemed to average better than 30. Dean headley, Chris Lewis? Chris Cowdrey? What mediocre greats can you not believe this lot have been worse than?

It's funny how people are always drawn to defend the city they live in, despite it usually being a decision made by chance and circumstance. I've lived in loads of cities, but the reasons have always been things like birth, parents' jobs, my jobs, uni, girlfriend, wife etc. When it came to choosing a place to spend the rest of my life, I went far out of the city and chosen somewhere beautiful to build a house. My nearest city recently came near the top of one of those lists, but frankly I can never wait to get out of the city. Certainly anyone who comes to this country to spend time in a city is a ****ing idiot. The cities here are dull, average and expensive. Get out of the city and it's amazing.

We hardly need Yoshida as back up when we can call on someone of Hooiveld's stature.

£1.25? Did Cortese play hardball for the extra 25p? -
Yep. Chelsea could field two teams that were man for man better than our best. It's no disgrace that they were far too strong for us on the day.

Realistic target placing next season - current squad?

I'm confused by this. Are people now saying that finishing 6-9th is unrealistic and laughable? Aren't we 9th now? I don't get it. The OP says 6-9th and so far he's right. What's the mocking about? -
Saints players seem very keen to get the attacks moving down the right through Chambers, shows how much he's respected already.
-
We're playing well enough, but man for man they are soooooo much better than us.

don't be lame Jamie, as we all know, this "Adkins is the new fergie" nonsense was said by one to two posters and you only make yourself look silly by trotting it out. Turkish says it tongue in cheek, you are actually weak minded enough to have swallowed the idea that it was a popular opinion. try to be your own man and give up trying to impress us all, it's not going to happen.

Two brilliant albums, then they lost their way.

After hearing a clip of one of their songs, I downloaded a few of them, then found they were unbearable after about two minutes.

Once again very impressed with Chambers. He has made the step up with no problem at all. Imagine if we had back up of that quality in every position. I would say Cardiff were poor though and I can't imagine getting three goals like that against a decent team. Still, you can only beat who you play and we controlled that match throughout. It was like they didn't even have a midfield.

That stream is so good it still looks great up on the big screen, glad I never paid for any of these other options.

I used to teach Ben Turner and coached him at football, I take some pride and responsibility in that tendency to hoof it.

Not just my favourite Christmas film, my favourite film full stop.

I've just watched it. It looks like that's probably what he said, but it's hard to be sure, the commentators were convinced. Erik Thorstvedt couldn't believe Jos was allowed on the pitch again after the last **** up. They like MP though.

I have only ever heard liberal used as an insult by right wing Americans and Barry Sanchez. It's certainly not an English thing. I guess BS and the tea party share a love of business dictionary.com

From a terrible start, this thread has genuinely become one of the most uplifting, uniting threads I have ever seen on this site. I've never seen everyone come together to renounce one poster as a stupid **** and one idea as nasty, venomous, paranoid crap like this before. Good work SWF. Repost this if you hate cancer.

Funny, when you first started up the Barry Sanchez thing, I said to somebody "Why is dune pretending to be a labour voter, while still posting almost exactly the same stuff all the time?" The answer was that you were doing a silly character and would make a big act of falling out of love with the left and would soon claim to be leaving the labour party, championing more right wing values and constantly attacking the left. I thought you might do it a bit more smoothly though, it's all been rather clumsily done imo. I've never understood why anyone thinks "liberal" is an effective insult. I've always considered myself liberal since I discovered what it meant, I will always champion people's personal freedoms and equality, you feel free to go the other way.

Don't remember many writing him off, are you sure you don't mean the many posts that said he needed to score more, which were fair enough, until very recently his scoring rate was worse than Ramirez. I would say that in a team that has high possession and creates a lot of scoring opportunities, he has needed to deliver more goals and now he seems to be, which is why he is now getting the praise. Nothing wrong with people saying a player should deliver, then being pleased when he does. There's no turn-around in opinion there.
