  1. We really should win this. They were sort of mid-ish Championship standard, I reckon and actually we should have scored more than once in the home game. We badly need a bit more composure on the ball though so I would bring in JWP and Juanmi (he looks very neat and composed to me). I think I'd go with Yoshida at left back for extra aerial presence and Caulker looked very threatening from our set pieces in the first leg. Tempted to throw Martina in as well for physicality at right back but I think Cedric could do with run in the side - 50/50 on that call. -------------------------------------Stek-------------------------------- Martina/Cedric----------Fonte---------------Caulker----------Yoshida ---------------------------Wanyama-----Romeu----------------------- Juanmi-----------------------------JWP-----------------------Mane/Rodriguez -------------------------------------Pelle--------------------------------- Sub: Gazza, Martina/Cedric, Targett, Davis, Long, Mane/Rod, Reed/Tadic (if fit)
  2. I don't know how anyone can profess to be a "historian" of the game and be so ignorant. I suppose you don't need much in the way of comprehension to make glorified scrap books though.
  3. I like that. Should be more solid and no more of the rubbish 424 variant of late. Caulker to score.
  4. Whilst I agree that our Prem refs are pretty useless, I would like to give credit to the ref on Thursday. I thought he was very good and used the advantage rule much better than most refs. People will moan about the "time wasting" but that was largely feigning injury and the rules don't really allow the referees to do anything to stop that so I don't blame him for that. He can't book someone for maybe not being actually that badly hurt. Rules should change so treatment can occur on pitch whilst the game continues. That would disincentivise feigning injury as there would be no benefit in doing so.
  5. Morecambe players are playing the match of their lives and the ref can't cope with the pressure. If anything, Pompey have been too good. This is a timely reminder of how much harder it is for Pompey than everyone else. Or something like that.
  6. I would go for a more solid team for this one. ----------------------------------Stek------------------------------- Cedric---------------Fonte--------Caulker-----------Yoshi --------------------Vic--------------Romeu------------------ Davis---------------------JWP-----------------------Mane ------------------------------Pelle------------------------- If Fonte and Pelle are injured then swap Targett in and move Yoshida and start with Long or Juanmi up front. A draw won't be a bad result if we beat Norwich next weekend but that team still has a goal or two in it.
  7. I disagree. We are playing with a much more overtly central support man for Pele. Last season, the more advanced of the central midfield three would be a midfielder (typically JWP or Davis) who would push forwards when the ball was played long. This season we have played with someone in a more advanced central position and two wider midfielders also in advanced positions - sometimes it's been like a 4-2-4. It's had an impact on our passing and our defensive shape. Last night was like this: ------------Wanyama-----------Romeu---------- Mane--------------------------JWP--------------- -----------Pelle---Rodriguez------------------- JWP was too narrow to help Targett much, either offensively or defensively and Rodriguez was reduced to looking for knock-downs from Pelle. Last season would have been more like this: ---------------Wanyama-----Romeu(Morgan)------- Mane-------------------JWP----------------------Rodriguez --------------------------Pelle---------------------------- Rodriguez and Mane would have had a lot of licence to roam nearer Pelle but JWP would have been a link man in possession and pushed on to support long balls. This season, we are missing that and sacrificing build-up.
  8. This season we seem determined to have a more overtly central support man for Pelle. Tonight it was Jay Rod, sometimes it has been Mane. This is nice in theory, as Mane is often more effective coming centrally from the left than stuck on the wing and Jay Rod has attributes to be a great striker. Unfortunately, it is screwing our midfield right up in terms of defensive shape and ball possession. JWP was playing as a sort of inside-left today and Targett was far too isolated. I think it's also confusing the two deeper midfielders, as evidenced by the lack of challenge on Sparv tonight. I want to see Romeu/Classie and Wanyama with a more creative midfielder in front of them and two players playing from wide positions. The current mutant 442 variation is not effective and encourages too much hoof. I applaud Ron in theory trying to get more attackers into the team but it's not working. Let's get back to the shape that worked well for most of last season.
  9. Not sure why you think we're weaker at GK? I would say we're stronger, if anything.
  10. Anyone got one? Do you like it? I was considering a Jaguar XE, which is a cracking drive, but am now considering the Mazda 6 SE-L as a more economically sensible option (it's about 30% cheaper). I've driven the diesel engined one and I thought it was good fun with a proper bite to it so am increasingly tempted as Mazda currently offer 0% finance (Jag around 4%) and the guy in the showroom seemed pretty desperate to do the deal so I could hopefully get a decent discount on top. Any thoughts on the car gratefully received!
  11. Wanyama goes to church so I'm sure he'll be nice
  12. Agreed. We are definitely not right in midfield at the moment. I would start like this for Thursday: Stek Cedric-Fonte-Caulker-Yoshida Reed-Romeu JWP Mane, Rodriguez Pelle Bench: Gazza, Targett, Wanyama, Davis, Juanmi, Long, Tadic
  13. I'd be quite pleased if we had no interest in him but we're just trying to mess with Spurs.
  14. - Did you have a good day babes? - Yesssshhh. We make a good training, en mein opinion, and have some chipssh. It is good. And you? - Well, I sucked a todger and flicked my bean for a bit, then I had one up the bum and one in the *****. There was about ten mins of pounding then they both spunken en mein face.
  15. I think I would select this team: ------------------Incredible Stekkers----------------------- Cedric Sneer-----Fonte-----Yoshi-------------Targett ----------------Wanyama--------Reed---------------------- Tadic--------------------Mane--------------------Davis ------------------------------Pelle-------------------------- Bench: Gazzarniger, Martina, Caulker, Romeu, Juanmi, Long, Jay Rod Reed had a good game against Everton last season and I don't see merit in rushing Classie or playing Romeu from the start. It shows our squad depth that JWP can't even make the bench and if Classie was fit then neither would Reed. If we sign VvD then Caulker would probably also have the day off.
  16. This is my list. I hate the ones at the top the most. 1. Spurs 2. Liverpool 3. Chelsea 4. West Ham 5. Man U 6. Villa 7. Man City 8. Stoke 9. Sooonderland 10. Leicester 11. Palace 12. Everton 13. The Arse 14. Watford 15. West Brom 16. Newcastle 17. Norwich 18. The Cherries 19. Swansea 20. Saints
  17. Stekers Soares Fonte Yoshida Targett Wanyama Reed Davis Tadic Mane Pelle Subs: Gazza, Martina, Caulker, JWP, Jay Rod, Juanmi, Long
  18. Tadic is our only midfield player who's shown any inkling of playing intelligent passes. We badly need a fit partner for Big Vic. If Classie is injured I would start Reed with him on Sunday with Davis in front. Caulker looks poor, although I'll give him the benefit of the doubt and assume he's a bit nervous around his new team mates at the moment. We've been rubbish really but then it's been a dead rubber since the third minute. Also, Stekelenberg could well be an upgrade on Forster.
  19. Koeman didn't say which list did he? He could be not on the list of people we don't want to sign.
  20. Bargain fee but presumably there are some hefty wages invovled. As for Traore, it would be a bit of a strange signing for Liverpool given they presumably only have space for three or, at a push, four of the following in the team at any one time: Sturridge Benteke Coutinho Firmino Lallana Balloteli (lolz) Borini (lolz) Markovic (assuming they don't want to convert him to a permanent wing-back. lolz) Ibe (assuming he is viewed as an offensive player rather than Clyne's understudy) I can see Traore being the kind of player Koeman would like in the squad. He's similar to Elia in the sense that he's a touchline-hugging winger, would fit a 4-3-3 happily and he's fast (although he plays on the right, normally, not the left).
  21. Maybe in the odd game we might do that (like last season) and it is a system which should suit Mane but if we were going to do that regularly then we would have practised it a bit more (more than not-at-all, f'sure) in pre-season I would've thought.
  22. I think we should go all out to get him to sign a new one and if that means offering him BIG wages then so be it. We can finance that easily by adding a few more Category A matches next season. Can't see anyone grumbling about that.
  23. I think I would start with: Stekers Martina Fonte Yoshi Targett Reed Davis JWP Juanmi Long Pelle Bench: Gazza, Soares, McCarthy (Caulker if available), Wanyama, Rodriguez, Mane, Tadic With Bertrand out we are weak at full-back in terms of depth so I don't see any reason to play Cedric and Martina should be capable, especially given the balance of the tie. Likewise we currently have no cover for Wanyama. We should be able to protect a three goal lead without him and I can't see us not-scoring based on Arnhem having a couple of clowns at the back; this effectively means we should have a five goal lead. Mane is our best player and can be on the bench if needed. Ideally we would take a centre back and Targett off at half-time if things are going well. I assume Davis and Pelle will both play at Newcastle so one of those can also come off (probably Davis, as he is likely to get through a lot more running than Pelle).
  24. Indeed, which is why Mane, IMO is a ridiculously good each way (1/4 odds in top 4) bet for Premier League top scorer at 100-1. He could get 15 goals f'sure.
