And, every bit as bewilderingly, the email programme now downloads and sends emails just at it did before. Working just fine on Monday, not functioning on Tuesday, Wednesday nor Thursday morning - and as if someone sprinkled fairy-dust on the problem, all is now working again. Many thanks for your concern. Sometimes I wonder if these technology thingies aren't a bit like humans ...

I am getting no messages from Thunderbird re connection. All appears well, the programme even tells me the number of emails awaiting download - but nothing happens. Emails I believe I have sent are showing in the Sent box as having been delivered, but the intended recipients have not got them and my own tests show the same problem - all indications are the programme is working well ... only it isn't. Bewildering.

Maybe a 'Shirt of Hurt' moment at the next Comic Relief event will test her resolve.

I use the email programme Thunderbird and this has been working just fine for well over a year. Yesterday, there were no incoming emails and I could not send emails. I can access my email accounts using webmail and can see there are emails sitting which have arrived and, using webmail, I can send emails. But Thunderbird doesn't download them. I conclude from this there is nothing wrong with the email system but the problem lies with Thunderbird. I have not touched any of the settings - Thunderbird just stopped working, but with no indication this was the case. I haven't received any error message and it would appear emails have been sent but clearly they haven't as I have tried out test messages to check. I am completely bewildered. Any and all sensible suggestions welcomed, please. I fear I may have to install a completely new email programme and, if so, any suggestions for alternatives, please?

The Platform Tavern down at Town Quay usually has a fair number of away fans. It's a real ale pub and often has live music - not a typical pub but good food and different beers.

Some years ago I used to sit in the Chapel end and there was a lady who sat in front of me. Her sole, but all too regular, contribution was to shout out "Do something!" whenever a Saints player was in possession. I now sit in the Kingsland and heard a gem just last Saturday. We were 0-1 down and it was coming up to half-time. Fonte had just made a superb tackle on our own goal-line and had passed to Shaw. Shaw in turn clipped the ball to Lallana who made a cushioned header to Davis who in turn flicked it on to a running Osvaldo. "Now let's see what you can do - you complete waste of money" came a shout from nearby ...

I'm of the view this gives us the opportunity to have a little mid-week fun and pose the question the other way - which of Manchester United's current squad should we consider buying in the January window? Vidic? Rooney? I'm struggling ...

Interesting comments from the pundit and thanks for posting them - although for someone to claim to have watched us a lot in the past few years and then failing to mention Rickie is a bit of a puzzle. A bit like writing a travelogue of a trip to Sydney and failing to mention the Opera House.

I offer for consideration the last-minute equaliser "Niemi" goal against Fulham at Loftus Road in the spring of 2003. It was down at the other end from us Saints fans and although Killer scored (from the rebound off the bar), from our distance it looked like our Favourite Finn had done the business with a fantastic volley. But whoever scored, the stand we were in went beserk.
