Anyone thinking of doing a Parachute Jump? You won't after THIS!

Whilst no doubt the instructor will be heavily criticized for shoving her our of the plane I suspect, as farawaysaint says above, reluctance is a not uncommon. He also did an amazing job of keeping hold of the old girl on the way down. -
I lived in Japan (mostly in central Tokyo, which isn't the same thing) for around 18 years (mid 70s to mid 90s). The decision to return was down to the children's education and lifestyle, but they have gone back to live there now and I travel there several times a year. It's a great place both to work and to bring up young children (very safe) but, like everywhere, there are downsides and I am grateful for coolish English summers.

I watched the game not so much for itself but to see how we might cope against these rivals next season. The sheer pace of the match was something that surprised me and the pace of some of the individual players would leave even our speedsters standing.

Imagine my surprise and, above all, horror, when I saw the photo of Appy wearing what looked like an Old Etonian necktie. Surely not? I thought. Mercifully, my laptop screen was tilted at an awkward angle and it was just a trick of the light - the stripe on the new Portsmouth tie is just a shade darker blue than that of the OE. http://www.newandlingwood.com/product.php?id=128

Has anyone here received an email from the Club with the title "Southampton FC Season Ticket Launch" ? Some of the group of friends with whom I go to matches have received such an email (myself included) whereas others have not. This has prompted a discussion, with some believing the email was a scam and others who did not receive the email worried they have been lost in the system. The email certainly appeared genuine and included a link whereby we were asked to update our contact details. Someone who did not receive the email then contacted the Club and received the reply "We have sent no emails regarding Season Ticket pricing or structure for next Season" - which didn't really answer the question. Can anyone here confirm if they, too, have received the communication from the Club asking for confirmation of their details?

Nor do us Saints fans forget Pompey's Night of Shame on 2 December 2003. The night their 'fans' booed and jeered the Minute's Silence for Ted Bates. That was unforgivable.

Whilst the Chelsea defence was undoubtedly praiseworthy, I thought Barca were tactically inept. Against 10 men they played with no width and the tippy-tap passing they specialize in got them nowhere. Most talented team in Europe? Without question. Most attractive team? Certainly. But The Best? Not on tonight's showing.

Is that the same Jeremy Hunt, the Culture Secretary, that confused poor James Naughtie so amusingly on Radio 4's Today Programme earlier this year?

Vote Matt Le Tiss - Greatest ever Premier League goal

Disappointed Alan Blayney's save from Alan Shearer isn't there in the Best Save section. -
Well, it made me laugh

Maybe this is one for us oldies - taking the Championship to mean "second tier" and League 1 to mean "third tier" ... Try Northampton Town in the 1960s. They won a few successive promotions (through all 4 leagues, IIRC and then promptly went straight back down again). However, I don't know the stats websites that might give the definitive answer.

Your Dad was bang on the money. Walsh seemed effusive in anything Palace did and only lukewarm (if that) on Saints. I, too, am a season ticket holder in the Kingsland and am probably closer to your Dad's age than yours, so it is possible my faculties are also on the wane - but not, I think, in this case.

Ture - although the Law of the Land shouldn't be ignored for the benefit of the Football League. So the question is - at what stage in the collapse of a business must it completely stop trading?

To hear all the interview go to the BBC Radio 4 Today programme page http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b006qj9z and click on the link to Listen Again 10/4/2102 and fast-forward to 1.50.40. The South Coast derby is the event chosen to highlight the issue of who should pay the policing costs. I love the bit around 1.54.05 where Jim Naughtie, the BBC interviewer, describes the Saints v Portsmouth match as 'fairly ordinary' and 'not especially high profile' and is put right in no uncertain terms by the Policeman. Naughtie is suitably contrite at the end of the exchange. I tend to agree with hamster above - will the Royal Family be charged for the necessary policing at the Diamond Jubille celebrations? Who will pay for the policing charges at the Olympics? At the upcoming Liverpool derby at Wembley? At pop concerts? ... As Fan the Flames says at the top of the thread, football fans are taxpayers, too. And for a bonus, the same programme has an interview with NA at around 1.25.40 (but it doesn't tell us very much new).

According to his own blog, he is starting his rehab. He says he will be doing so with a smile on his face. http://ameblo.jp/lee-tadanari/archive1-201204.html

And on the bright side ... the Michael Swensson equaliser (aka the Niemi goal) v Fulham at Loftus Rd back in 2003.

Agree with all the above. Far too much nonsense has been written about yesterday's game - much of it by people who weren't there. Derby matches make players from both sides do things they would not normally dream of doing - shooting from 35 yards, two players both going for the same ball, rash and silly tackles - even (especially?) the officials get similarly wound up. For those who say we played poorly and our opponents were the better side, think of who was their MoM - Ashdown, and also ask how many saves KD had to make (one from Etihu (sp?) and their two wonder goals). Some have said the crowd didn't get under the skin of their players - nonsense, we got to them all right, no problems there. As for those who are saying the crowd were quiet ... I for one have never heard all 4 sides of the stadium shout and sing so loudly.

Argentina upping the ante on the Falklands....
Kingsland Codger replied to doddisalegend's topic in The Lounge
In the village, there is a rather cold and not very appealing girl. She is in love with a powerful, wealthy but older man who lives a long way away and is vaguely aware of her but has no special feelings towards her. Her neighbour thinks she should be going out with him and so one day he kicks in the door of her house, says the house now belongs to him (because a long time ago, possibly, someone vaguely related to him stayed there overnight) and tells both the girl and the older guy to like it or lump it. The older guy comes calling and gives his rival a bloody nose and a black eye and sends him home with his tail between his legs. He ensures the girl's home is safe and gives the girl many gifts. What should the rival do? Huff and puff, say it's unfair, that the girl is truly his and threaten and cry and generally behave like a class 1 twit? Or should he send the girl a handwritten message on scented notepaper saying he's sorry, give her flowers and chocolates and try very hard to be nice to her? Put another way ... Just what the heck does the Argentine diplomatic service think it's doing? -
Argentina upping the ante on the Falklands....

Thank you for this. I'm sure many of us recall the image of the best part of 250,000 Argentinians outside the Casa Rosada waving their sky-blue and white flags cheering on Galtieri and his loathsome chums and coming to the not unreasonable conclusion that the 1982 invasion had popular backing. Compare this to the crowds outside Buck House at a Royal Wedding or Jubilee celebration and concluding that, like it or not, most Brits are quite content with their Royals. I remain of the view that no matter how unconcerned your average Argentinian might be about the Falklands, all you have to do is shout Malvinas Argentinas and they all go off on one. Very similar to Portsmouth fans when seeing someone in red-and-white stripes - they can't resist shouting 'Scummer'. I shall be very happy to be proven wrong, but until I see evidence of an Argentinian President being told, by thousands of baying Argies, to shut the heck up about the Malvinas, I shall believe they continue to have imperialist desires over the islands. -
A bit of revision on the offside law wouldn't go amiss.

Lee - out for 4-6 months according to Japanese press
Kingsland Codger replied to shurlock's topic in The Saints
So when CFSFC posted about Lambert having an op and being out for the rest of the season, he had got his strikers mixed up. An intriguing example of how some rumours have a hint of the truth about them. I'm sure we all wish TL a speedy recovery - and hope SRL does the business next weekend. -
Errr... if many teams have worked out how to play us, how come we are top of the league?

Dr Who - my thoughts - consider your personal circumstances; don't answer any of these questions here on the forum, but how old are you and your wife and do you have children - and if the answers are youngish (say, under 35) with no kids then go for it. I moved abroad (Japan) in 1978 for what was intended to be only a short period and it was a life changing experience, such that Japan remains a major part of my life over 30 years later. It sounds like quite an adventure; might you kick yourself for ever after if you decide not to go?

And not forgetting ... 1) We have a very honest group of players (whatever the heck that means) 2) Up against a very good (insert name of opposition) side
