I hate to trot out the old scandinavian line, but the swedes have a ludicrous rate of taxation and they seem to be happier than we are. I'm self employed, and my private pension (with which I could and should have paid off my mortgage) is worth less in pounds sterling now than when I ploughed 4 solid years worth of total earnings into it 18 years ago. I would rather pay more tax and not have to be a financial expert in order to get a decent pension and publicly funded healthcare than the mess we have now.

Fair enough, but I trust sky as much as I trust twitter. I cant see this happening, and tbh I have to agree with the posters above likening him with puncheon. In the highly unlikely event that we signed beckford, I would hope that Nigel and NC had set out their stall to him. He's a cocky git, that doesnt seem to fit with our current team-spirit ethos. Just cant see this happening.

There are no reliable sources on twitter, and beckford is not going to sign for us unless he has an injury we dont know about.

The renewables argument always reminds me of the car industry bleating about the change from 4 star to unleaded fuel. "We cant make cars that could use it, they will always break down, its impossible to mass produce cars with catalytic convertors, it will be so expensive nobody could afford to run cars any more and it will be the end of times......" etc etc ad nauseam. When they were presented with unleaded petrol as the only alternative then hey presto, we still seem to be driving around in cars. If energy companies are presented with renewables as the only source of their energy and money stream, they will find a way through it. Nothing sharpens the mind so much as the alternative of no money.

Thats a really good point right there. Not so much the media and supporters expectations, but the whole transfer market situation; if you have a credible plan/expectation to gain promotion to the next division, on the one hand you can reasonably hope to attract better players, but at the same time, those players and their current clubs will expect to be able to nail you to the wall on fees and wages, as you have stated that specific aim. That said, NC does appear to be holding his own in his transfer dealings.....

I dont believe that Cortese and Adkins are not aiming at automatic this season. For the first time I can remember, we have a squad capable of aiming for it, a settled management and the funding to back it, plus a team used to each others playing styles. At the beginning of the season, straight off the blocks. I seriously dont remember that ever happening before.

As a matter of fact, he is a genuinely excellent pianist technically. Not particularly to my taste, but he is well up there as a player. He's also a very nice chap, I met him when I did some work for him at his Guildhall show earlier this year. Shame he looks such a tw*t.
