Elvis Reifer was one I remember but what I really meant was developing bowlers and bringing them into the first team as it is not easy these days as you say with year round cricket We have had Tremlett and Udal but not many more since Bob Cottom when I was at school in the 1960s we even had John Rice Trevor Jesty and Tim Tremlett opening the bowling in 1970/80 era. When are starting supporting the Saints over 50 years ago in Div 3 I never thought they would be one of the top ten clubs in the country So I am very happy With so much money in the PL and high player wages we will never compete regularly with the top City Clubs

Of course you are right but since the 1960s when the maximum wage was abandoned large city Clubs have had an unfair advantage and with the PL and CL this unfortunately is going to continue

I agree we are never going to be a regular top 6 team but definitely a top ten team teams like Man U Man C Liverpool Arsenal Chelsea have large fan bases and stadia and have a history over my lifetime of winning Trophies not only domestic but also European

Spurs are a top 6 Team pay very good wages cannot see why anyone could object to him going there

Liverpool with out doubt one of the most successful clubs over my lifetime with supporters everywhere

I agree with what you are saying but at the time Chivers was a lot better than Channon and we got Frank Saul in return

Liverpool are a massive club with a fine history and great fans and pay more wages people sometimes forget that playing football is Cylne's job and if he wishes to go there and earn more money that is fine by me. He is likely to have a lot more success there than at St mary's I would have thought
