You must be joking the the economy is a really bad shape at the moment no growth low wages people not getting enough work and the no economic plan Until the Global crash of 207/2008 Labour was doing a good job with the economy with the Tories agreeing to their economic spending Most people do not take enough notice of what goes on with regard to politics and economics and just read sound bites which are usually myths from the newspapers. Since I was born in 1946 the GDP of the country has risen by an average of 2% per year under both Labour and Tory in fact I believe Labour has a very small advantage 2.194% to 2.188% growth is now expected to be around 1.5%. But the facts are never a strong point for the Tories just lies and smear as could be seen today with Boris and his terrible showing at the Select Committee meeting today

We are part of the EU and are involved with creating Laws there we also have the veto but what laws are you concerned with Most seem pretty good to me on workers rights and the environment

Dont know why anybody would want to be a ref . I have a friend who has son who refs to quite a high standard and when he goes to matches where he is in charge the abuse Dan receives is terrible and he is only doing his best and knows football inside out

You are probably right but it is fun thinking that you maybe be barking after all and we finish in the top 5. Just be optimistic for a change things may well go right for us it did 30 years or so ago when we were 2nd and 40 years ago when we won the cup so it could happen again this year.

I am not so sure I agree with your international break comment but Leicester cannot surely keep winning so I think we have a chance

Exactly Prof most on here have unrealistic aspirations

Yes but should get more from the rich and big business but they donate to the Tory Party

Green Party leader Natalie Bennett has said it is too late for Duncan Smith “to paint himself as a champion of the disabled”, adding that it is successive governments that are to blame for young people having to pay for bankers’ failures. Iain Duncan Smith correctly observed in his resignation letter that the government’s fiscal approach is increasingly regarded as an ideological-driven dead end even in the Tory Party, but it is far too late for this former Tory leader to paint himself as a champion of the disabled when he has presided for so long over a welfare regime that has left disabled and ill people in dire poverty and desperate fear. Iain Duncan Smith is right to identify the way in which young people have been made to pay for the greed and fraud of the bankers, but he is wrong to blame a whole generation of their elders. Britain’s state pension is among the lowest in Western Europe, 16% of pensioners live in poverty. The problem lies with the decisions of successive governments to allow rich individuals to accumulate a larger share of the nation’s wealth, while multinational companies have become parasites failing to pay their way with taxes or decent wages and benefiting from wholesale privatization of public assets. I cannot disagree can anyone

Southampton appeal against Sadio Mane red card - Appeal Successful
John B replied to Koolman's topic in The Saints
If you expect refs to get have decision correct you will have to wait a long time . Just like you they are human and wrong decisions will always be made just accept it it is part of the game He must be a good ref otherwise he would not be near the PL -
Proved right again I see I have said many times the only consistent thing about the Saints is their inconsistency Liverpool next they are in some second rate cup which we thought we were beneath last autumn and left on Thursday so perhaps that will give us the edge
-
You are probably right but something needs to be done because if we want to trade with the EU either in or out there will still be free movement that is why I support Plaid Cymru SNP Sinn Fien SDLP Corbyns Labour Party possibly the LIB DEMS who wish to disassociate themselves from the Neoliberal economics of the Tories and New Labour and invest for the future especially since interest rates are so low with most of the world's top economists in agreement. Thats my lot back to football tomorrow lets hope for a win I never know with the Saints over the last sixty or so years the only consistent thing about the Saints is there in consistency

Most of the so called immigration is not immigration it is movement within the single market but I have no difficulty in calling it immigration I think the levels of immigration are necessary if we are to support any aging population see how many are in the care sector the home my mother was in in Shawford had loads of them. However we need to be told why immigration is needed and not parties making political capital out of it like we have had with UKIP which has caused the current referendum where anything but the true facts are being revealed. Because we need non UK people to do jobs we need to make certain that they are not being taken advantage of with respect to pay which stops UK citizens getting them there is no real evidence that this is happening a great deal but of course it must happening in particular instances The main problem however is the lack of housing throughout the whole country as all governments over the last 25 years have failed to build enough houses and the selling of social housing has caused the rise of private landlords trying to make as much as possible out of us all. Well over 50% of bought Council houses are now in the private rental sector and sometimes people think migrants are getting preferential treatment on housing but most are renting these ex council houses privately. If more houses are built more taxes will be raised the economy will grow. Of course with an increased population we need more schools more teachers more nurses more doctors more of everything So we need investment in infrastructure and decent jobs which pay well not zero hours contracts and poorly paid jobs in shops bars pubs and restaurants.
-
You make a very valid point but we need a growing economy to support people living longer so immigration is important unfortunately we have politicians who have never done a job in their life and say whatever comes into their head . We need to have a plan how we are going to build more houses schools train more teachers train more doctors etc to meet the needs of a growing population. Cameron thinks a plan is to say we will build 200000 houses a year that is an aspiration I am 70 years old I am glad I will not be around when everything goes pear shaped through lack of planning this Government is truly awful it wants power but it does not want to invest for the future it panders to pensioners like me as we are more likely to vote and not the young who need to work in decent jobs with decent jobs in the future.

Yes Chivers to Paine I think at the Archers Road End have a feeling Billy Bonds was playing for Charlton that day and was outstanding
-
The M3 went from Sunbury to Popham in 1976 used to use it regularly dont recall when the rest was opened dont you remember the bus going from Southampton to Anderlect that way
-
I was there that I think it was January 1964 my brother had an appendicitis and was rushed to the Royal South Hants Hospital we gave the ticket to the driver. We went 2 0 with a fantastic Chivers left foot shot but as you say eventually lost 3 2 we of course had to wait 12 years to get revenge at Wembley. I drove up the M3 that day absolutely confident that we were going to win and that of course is what happened

Never saw Stanley Matthews play but I did see him at the Dell in 1963 When Stoke were promoted to Div 1 when there was a guard of honour for him at the start of the League game as he was injured he did not play WE won 2 0
-
I used to get in the Boys Entrance when I was in the Upper Sixth at St Mary's with a few others my younger brother used to leave after breakfast so it felt to be first in the Q I think the gates may have opened at midday. Even today fifty years later he is always early for functions. There were some great games in the Bates/Paine era before Div 1 but the Man U Semi Final mentioned by Derry was not one of them unfortunately .

I think you mean Darren Bent Robert Fleck seemed a nice chap when he used to come and pick his daughter up from my house as she was a friend of my daughter mind you that was sometime in the last century. The only player I recall I got upset with was David Burnside who left us for Crystal Palace who knocked us out of the FA cup at the Dell dont remember what he did Didnt like Beattie much either when he scored in the Darren Bent game
-
Know the area well there used to be a pitch and put course where I used to play 45 or so years ago. Used to walk down Woodmill Lane in the late 1940's when there were awful smelling marshes on the way to watch my dad play cricket at the old University Ground

We could have a really good team if we combined those in 1986 with those of today I would go for Peter Shilton Cedric Soares Mark Wright Virgil VanDijk Ryan Bertrand David Armstrong Jimmy Case Steven Davis Graziani Pelle Steve Moran Danny Wallace
-
Thirty Years Ago today we beat Brighton 2 0 to get into the FA Cup Semi Final I looked at the line up Peter Shilton Steve Baker Mark Wright Kevin Bond Nick Holmes David Armstrong Jimmy Case Glenn Cockerill George Lawrence Steve Moran Danny Wallace and realized they were all English I doubt we could put out an all English team today but it shows how football has changed On saturday we had two English starters and two on the bench

I dont think it is just Koeman who is responsible for for the disappointing season but the situation is not helped because it is possible he will not be here for much longer. I just think we need someone who is committed for sometime like we had with Ted Bates and Lawrie Mac
-
Well you seem to have very low expectations I never for one moment thought we would be relegated at the start of the season. SFC is not the SFC 0f the 1990s and early 2000s we are supposed to have a top academy financial clout and an aim to get into Europe. This season we will probably finish in the bottom half of the table had a very poor European campaign were knocked out of the FA Cup in the first round got thrashed by Liverpool in the League Cup if that is not disappointing I dont know what is. Of course if we win lots of the remaining games it will be less disappointing
-
A disappointing season has become more disappointing Next time we get a manager get him to sign for five years just think three years is too short a time
