  1. In all my years watching Saints I cant remember a worse striker performance than Downs tonight. What is it with our striker recruitment? Absolutely crap!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  2. Sorry, should have pointed out that Tom's original name was Stephen Christopher Yaxley-Lennon but he preferred Chris to Steve before adopting the name Tommy Robinson in honour of a namesake who was a member of the Luton Town hooligan gang. Apparently he has also used the monikers Andrew McMaster, Paul Harris, Stephen Lennon and interestingly, Wayne King. Interesting fellow and could well be nominated for honours or possible entry to the House of Lords when Reform win the next Election.
  3. I suppose winning the Fourth Division with Doncaster & Grimsby would be looked upon as decent achievements. However I would humbly suggest that there would be lots of expressions of disappointment on here if the latter day Saints owners had appointed a Fourth Division Manager who then was involved in an immediate relegation in 1973 and a lengthy struggle in the Second Division prior to redemption in 1976 & 1978.
  4. Gathercole has looked decent in the snippets I have seen. Reminds me a bit of Dom Ballard in so far as he has decent skills in the penalty area and knows where the goal is. He is not ready for first team football yet but has potential. However another one off our production line of 5'6" forward players unfortunately.
  5. Poor old Chris Yaxley-Lennon (call me Tommy). He is upset that he has been prevented from getting away for a 'break' to Panama and/or Columbia as the stress of recent life has taken its toll. Not for him a short holiday in Cornwall, Dorset, Wales, Scotland or Northern Ireland or even Ibiza, Benidorm, Torremolinos to join many others of his ilk. I feel sorry for the poor lad as his crusades are obviously having an affect on his mental health.
  6. Trump consistently said that 'Tariffs' is his favourite word. I guess someone must have had a word to him as he now, with some reluctance, has modified the statement. He now reckons his favourite word(s) are 'Family' (by his own admission he wouldnt mind dating one of his daughters), 'Religion' (highly unlikely that he has ever been to church on his own account, ever read the bible or can even recount the Lords Prayer) 'Love' (strictly limited to the feeling about himself) as well as 'Tariffs'.
  7. Just a thought about the suggestion of a change in Manager. When Lawrie McMenemy took over from Ted Bates, Saints were in a relatively healthy position in the First Division. Results were poor and we ended up being relegated but Lawrie kept his job and the club went onto to much better days. Those in power generally pick up the spirit of players better than us supporters. If team spirit is at a low ebb and the players dont respond to the Manager that's when a change becomes necessary.
  8. As a card carrying pessimist, I was genuinely excited, for the first time since May 2024 when we beat Leeds at Wembley, at the supposed calibre of player signed during the last transfer window. But after the first half shit show v Pompey and the drubbing at Hull today, I am now back to feelings of desperation. The only small glimmer of light finding its way through the darkened room where I am seeking solace away from this cruel world, is that i suffered similar feelings of despondency after the 5-0 battering at Sunderland two seasons ago. However up the Sunderland game the team had put in a couple of half decent performances. This season we have barely risen above the level of shittyness and with two very difficult games to look forward to. Instead of looking towards a top 6 finish, the spectre of fighting relegation rears its ugly head in the rear mirror. Why do I allow myself to go through this torture so may times???????
  9. Apparently quite a few MAGA supporters think Michelle Obama is a man. I wonder who else is on the list?
  10. Good ideas but perhaps people travelling a distance should get some sort of discount. There are 4 people who sit behind me who travel from Somerset, rain or shine, for every home game. They deserve better seat ticket prices than me who is normally home around 30 mins after a game.
  11. But do you remember Len Wilkins last game before he retired and emigrated to Canada or watching the Busby Babes, including Duncan Edwards, beat Saints Youth (including Messrs Paine and Sydenham) in the First Leg of the FA Youth Cup? My first lapel badge showed a picture of Don Roper. I actually look about 40 years older than the date shown on my birth certificate as a consequence of all the disappointments, heartache and stress suffered as a long time Saints fan, and I wasnt even born here!! I need Sympathy or Psychotherapy.😒
  12. Really disappointed in Downes performance so far this season. Two seasons ago he was a very decent midfield player for us. So far this season his performances have been very disappointing and includes the obligatory yellow card. Hopefully Lander will fit in nicely in midfield and perhaps Aribo will be given another shot. Not the greatest fan of Aribo but taking into account Downes poor form, I wouldnt be averse to see Aribo taking Downes place in a three man midfield along with Charles and Lander.
  13. Tend to agree with what you say. On paper I think we have a squad that is equal to, or possibly better, than 2 years ago and a Manager who seems to be more flexible in his style of play than Russell Martin. All that said, we havent been that impressive to date, apart from the 3-0 at Norwich. I wonder if, like the Prem, the standard of teams in the Championship has improved.
  14. Saints fans came over well on the TV
  15. Our passing was dreadful, especially in the first half. Playing long balls up to Archer only for their two centre halves to win the ball easily in the air was a ploy that was bound to fail. Whilst very disappointed in the teams performance today, I do feel there will be better days ahead when the new players become jelled into the side. That said we do need to get a win at Hull next Saturday. Pompey have a given 3 points at home to Sheff Weds and could potentially be 5 points ahead of us if we dont perform next week. I cant see much enthusiasm with ticket take up for the Liverpool game after that poor performance
  16. I was quite positive about him but his first half kick it long strategy was ridiculous. Their Manager had his team better sorted than us but then again he was ridiculed at Fratton Park when he first joined Pompey Their left winger and Bishop, the sort of aggressive CF, we have longed for were standouts for them. We should have the squad quality to improve but the team, as it stands, is nowhere near Prem standard.
  17. Poor old JWP is getting pelters from the fans. Disappointed for him as he did well for us. Re Fernandes, I wonder if we would be interested in re signing him if we went up and the Hammers were relegated
  18. There was a game at Highbury, against Leeds I think, during quite a cold spell, when only just over 3,000 turned up.
  19. Must have been around the 32,000+ mark. In all my many years supporting Saints at The Dell, I have never witnessed such overcrowding. I was glad I managed to get a seat in the West Stand for the game.
  20. Good old Cuddly John Westwood who celebrates the violence of the 657 squad with a nice friendly tattoo.
  21. I heard a rumour, from a fairly reliable source, that Saints have bought the former Gas Holder site with the intention of turning it into a Exhibition/Concert centre. Just wonder if anyone with connections with the club could confirm/dispute this? If there is truth in this, it would be good to have such a facility in Southampton.
  22. You are correct that occasionally The Dell would accommodate crowds of up to 30,000 prior to the Taylor report but only twice in Saints history was there ever an average attendance over just over 25,000, for the season, before the move to SMS.
  23. I think the club and us supporters have done a good job in more or less doubling the average attendances in the switch from The Dell to SMS. Of course there was a 15,000 capacity limit at The Dell but I can remember being in a number of less than capacity games at our old ground. Building SMS for £32m seems incredible value now when you look at the cost to restructure and build stadia today and even compared to modern transfer 'values'. If Saints were able to become a competitive Premiership club and the 'gentrification' of the Itchen waterfront progresses in the next 5-10 years (I am relatively optimistic this will happen) then a financial case could be made for an increase in capacity at SMS, part of which are looking a bit tired atm. Licensing an increased capacity by Soton Council is likely to be a challenge but I think the Council (of whatever colour) could see some merit in this, if there was creative solutions to the expected additional traffic concerns.
  24. I wonder if there is a deadline for the transfer of politicians between parties and their agents are busily sorting out terms.?
  25. Ironically a friend of mine was telling me about a neighbour who seems to have money for various body 'artwork' and other 'improvements' and drives round in a Land Rover supplied under the Motobility scheme. She has never worked in the 5 years they have been neighbours. However, she seems to go out in the car most mornings just after her son goes off to a special school in a Taxi.
