Ironically a friend of mine's wife, who lives in Sussex, had the misfortune to travel, by train, with 2 young children on a Saturday a couple of years ago with some Pompey 'fans'. She is a fairly open minded person but said their behaviour was appalling and threatening to mainly women and young kids. I am not naive enough to say that Pompey are alone in having such 'supporters' but a significant percentage of their lot like to revel in the 657 Crew mythology. Again on the Swindon Forum there was comment regarding moronic behaviour on the post match train to Reading. When you think we probably took a large percentage of the 50,000 + supporters to Wembley by train for the JPT , and I can't recollect one bad word (even allowing for the overcrowding)

I think the 'wealthy business man' is supposed to beTheo Paphytis ex Millwall chairman John 'Pompey' Westwood has posted this on his Twitter account so it must be true!!

On the reverse to this were some comments on the 'Town End' (?) Forum about 'the drunken, foul smelling idiot with the bell' and from a father who's 13 year old daughter had been terrorised by some Pompey fans after the game. Don't think there was much 'class' displayed here. Meanwhile Kevin Bond (ex Asst at Pompey) is waxing lyrical abour 'fantastic' supporters at QPR. Surely there are none comparable to the 'fratton faithful'?

Ken was a brilliant bloke Typical Yorkshire. Very dry sense of humour. Decent player too although injury haunted him for most of his playing career. Big mates with Dennis Hollywood although they often vied for the same full back shirt. Part of the team in the mid/late 60's that really knew how to enjoy life off the pitch outside the glare of today's tabloids. Remember going on a football tour with Ken and co to Germany where we were invited to a Trotting Race. Ken told us to back the favourite in all of the 10 races. 'Can't lose', but of course we did!! As has been said in earlier posts, Ken was a very competent snooker player and coached a lot of youngsters. Much better at potting balls than manouvering containers into ships hatches!! Ken struggled a bit with his health in recent times but seemed to have overcome the issues before this sad news. Much sympathy to his wife Jean, son (big Saints fan) and daughter. A real loss.

Couple of questions Does the 4-1 figure often mentioned by Pompey fans actually equate to the number of Admins suffered by both clubs? Also am I right to recollect that during one of the earlier Pompey admins there was the offer of a helping hand, financially, from a group of well meaning Saints fans? Wasn't this rejected along with comments alonf the lines of ...'we don't need no help from no Scummahs'....

Spoke to a mate of mine who scouts in the North West He has a poor opinion of Dann and doesnt understand our reported interest. Bit worrying if true

Interesting piece I would agree that Rupert Lowe had some good ideas but his demeanour and self promotion (who can forget that obviously self penned letter of support read out at the last Shareholders meet) did not strike a cord with the majority of the fans. I am very surprised Rupert has decided to dip his toe in the water at such a low level and not re-surfaced higher up the Leagues. Simon Clifford has a reputation in the lower leagues as a loud mouth with dodgy shoes and dreadful rambling grammar. Check out his rant in April this year when Garforth played Curzon Ashton. Perhaps Rupert, with the benefit of his public school education, can tutor Clifford Minor in the correct way of producing the written word.

I wonder what the PNE fans made of that? Their adult tickets were £23 See that Lee Holmes came on as sub

Quite. Forgetting the fact that the Canberra/QE2 sailings from southampton plus the regular shipments of equipment and munitions from Marchwood Military Port. Playing against the 'whole world'!!! One foray into European Competition, unless the regular externally financed trips to Gibraltar, USA, Spain are taken into account!!

Has an autobiography out in time for Xmas!!! Had a sneaky look in Waterstones when looking at possible Saints related presents. One or two interesting snippets about his early years at St Mary's He was Simon Charlton's 'Apprentice' and didn't like him at all. Mentioned a dust up in training between Dave Beasant and Grahame Souness when the young pros were under the tutelage of Alan Mullery. Must admit didnt know Mullery has ever been on the coaching staff at SFC. Also Gary played in the last game at the Dell and said he has never heard such a crowd noise as when MLT hit the winner v Arsenal. Gave me a warm glow!!

Understand basic salary. Undoubtedly there will be decent bonuses for hitting certain targets
-
Actually Kevin Bond, who is now one of the QPR's coaches, lives at Chilworth (not far from Mr Cortese) and does indeed regularly chaffeur Henry R and Rosie to and from training etc.
-
Stuart Gray (now at Pompey?) and a chum were at St Mary's on Monday night watching our U21's Surely that deserves a headline in the Pompey News ..... 'Pompey scouts are watching top Premier league starlets'...... As an aside I wonder how our U21 side would perform against Pompey's first team? Our 3-1 win at Stevenage earlier in the season with a scratch side might provided a clue

Heard, from a decent source, that one of our ex players who is now Henry Redknapp's driver cum coach, is on a salary of £500k at QPR. Apparently this is more than our Nige is paid, although there could be bonuses which may increase relative sums. If these figures are true then I think we have a decent deal and, perhaps, further emphasises some of the silly money being spent on wages at certain clubs, especially QPR.

I think this is a fair comment Remember seeing Puncheon (and I think Dickson and Forte?) playing for the U18's pre season last year at Totton None were stand outs although credit to Punch as he was very encouraging to the youngsters

....I agree very much with these comments. Lee was played out wide last night when he is more a threat playing off the shoulder of the opposition back four using his pace..Nowadays forwards also need to defend from the front and Lee was annoyingly lightweight last night. Mayuka has been played as a central striker a few times this season (either a full game as last night and v Leeds or as a sub v Man Utd). It doesn't seem to suit him. He seems to create more as an impact sub out wide (but £3.5m for a sub??) One thing that was noticeable last night was his position defending corners. Not sure exactly what he was told to do but he basically remained fairly static in the penalty area and seemed not too fussed about picking anyone up. Of course his prime purpose is forward play but all players have their defensive roles too!!.............................

Another who was disappointed with Lee Add Makuta to that as he argued with Lee over who was to take both pens. Pity he didnt grab it first for the second spot kick. We were second best most of the game and could have suffered a walloping if it wasn't for Cropper. Hope for better next week when the Youth Team play Everton in the Cup

Under 21 game at St Marys KO 1900hrs Free entry, Itchen North

Bill I think a lot of Saints fan will call it this way Unfortunately I can see £30+ being the ticket price although possibly tempered with a deal for kids Chelsea will probably sell their allocation so this should push the crowd just above the 20,000 mark. # Sincerely hope I am wrong A lot may depend on whether we are on a good run in the League. Re distribution of gate money, isn't it split 3 ways between the two clubs and the FA?

'ex saints and england legend' persona non grata

John, I thought one of the purposes of this forum was for discussion, debate and opinions. My opinion, based on a number of factors, is that the club could, and should, do more to foster good relations with ex players, staff and suppliers and the programme advert issue may well be a symptom of an unnecessary feud with a well respected ex player. However I accept that, on this occasion, the groundswell of opinion from other posters contradicts my view and I will withdraw beaten but not bowed. btw I am pretty certain that the current club philosophy could well change within the next 2 years. -

John, What 'myth' am I accused of... 'constantly perpetuating'..? I have expressed a sense of disappointment about an assumed act of censorship which ties in with the treatment of MLT and other ex Saints by the club under the current set up. Do you really think my comment will REALLY affect the future of this site? I am very thankful for the investment put into the club recently but I prefer not to look at the matter with rose tinted glasses as there are so many disturbing stories emanating from people who have suffered from the rather dictatorial attitude prevailing within the upper echelons of our club. Goodwill is an extremely important aspect of most businesses. If, collectively, we do not debate and challenge some of the issues about how the club is run, we are no different to the fans further along the South Coast who seemed to believe every positive snippet of information they were fed. -

No definately MLT according to the Crest Nicholson website Why would they announce it there but not in the programme? Smacks very much of censorship, similar to the pulling of the programme for the Southend game and also the minimal mention of Alan Pardew in Sunday's programme. I am not saying this sort of 'control freak' behaviour is unique to SFC. I just wish the club could embrace the past rather than airbrush parts of it out of sight for personal reasons
