  1. I just wonder that if the Travelling community had a bit more sense and tried to deal with the issues surrounding their 'occupation' of land they would enjoy more sympathy and tolerance from the local community However I recall listening to a 'Traveller' on the radio once who said that whenever their extended family group turned up anywhere ..'To provide services to the local community'... ne'er do wells within the local settled community would take the opportunity to get rid of their litter and increase their own illegal activities and then blame it on Travellers. Unfortunately there does seem to be some campaigners around who may actually subscribe to this view
  2. One of these 'what if' questions. What if England had won the bid for the next but one World Cup? Weren't Pompey in the running to host some games? Would the city and club have wasted money on preparing for the games or would this, in fact, have been a catalyst for their future development?
  3. First siteing of the year Two caravans, one Transit and a Private No plate Pick Up at the back of Lordshill Church Personally I have no real problems with the occasional Traveller incursion provided they behave themselves and move on after a short time leaving the area neat and tidy It becomes problematic when they arrive mob handed and leave areas looking like a tip Wonder how the Govt would react if all Caravan Club members claimed to be itinerants and started pitching up on public land?
  4. Duncan it must be in our DNA as long standing Saints fans Ironically I had West ham down to lose against Leicester assuminglatter would make a strong run for the Play offs. Bearing in mind how much the new Leicester owners have put into the squad they must be very unhappy Guess Leicester can go full tilt (and thery would be difficult opponents) or roll over and give up a la Brighton
  5. But the fallback postion is the paly offs which 99% of fans would have taken pre season Pompeys default position, if they do avoid relegation, is actually another default and possible liquidation No comparison really!!
  6. Apart from Leeds, first game this season,we have been poor in all our TV games this year (what's new?) so as a card carrying pessimist I worry about Reading and Middlesboro I just hope we can put on a good show for the watching public and gain enough points to make Coventry a carnival event
  7. 2,4,6,8 who do we appreciate? S.A.I.N.T.S Saaaaaaaaintssss............ Who remembers Bill Bray?
  8. Pompey, Pompey give us your answer do Whats its like to go down to Division 2 (to the tune of 'Daisy, Daisy ...Bicycle made for two etc) (actually it used to be 'stuck in Division 2' when we were lording it in the top division but the sentiment remains the same!!
  9. I did a predictor before the Millwall game (and only got the Doncaster result correct!!!) but have us down to follow your results apart from Peterboro where I have us down for a draw. However I have felt for a few weeks now that we will miss out on automatic promotion by 1 point and then slip up against Leicester in the first stage of the play offs. Unfortunately losing 13 points to teams in the bottom four has not helped our cause over the course of the season
  10. Toi be fair we were hammered at leedsa but got out of jail thanks to Kelvin Davies and were a tad fortunate at Millwall Dont think we have been firing on all cylinders lately decent an impressive run Hope all this be rectified, starting on Saturday
  11. I'd really like to see Eddie Mitchell have a go or job share with the (Russian) investors wife!! The team talks would be hilarious!!
  12. We were actually allocated, and sold 44,000 tickets An official at Wembley reckoned there were just under 52,000 Saints fans there if the corporate areas etc and seating available direct from the Stadium were taken into account

    Diouf

Not the most popular player on most people's eyes. However thought he was Donnie's best player yesterday and arguably the best on the pitch once I have taken off my red & white tinted specs
  14. The club are interested in the development opportunities around St Mary's including the waterfrontage and have discussed the matter with the City Council Understand that most of the properties are on long leases of are owned freehold which is a problem
  15. 2-0 to Chesterfield (v Swindon) in front of 49,609 which is less than the Saints support in our final 2 years ago
  16. Duncan As a card carrying pessimist of long standing the 48/9 parallel is in my mind too. We were odds on for our first ever Div 1 appearance until 'Up the Middle for Charlie' Wayman got injured Easter is always an 'interesting time' Certainly remember the Div 3 Championship game v Reading (Brian Clifton's looping header) the Div 2 campaign when we went 10 games or more undefeated including a trip to Plymouth and a couple of back to back games v Bristol City when a young Mike Channon did well Hope we are home and hosed well before the last game!!
  17. Limited Saints involvement but both in the news today Ranger yet more Court appearances and Mellis sacked by Chelsea for pyrotechnic offences!!
  18. Reckon that yesterday we gained between 1-3 points which, perhaps, our performance didnt deserve v Leeds 3 points v Reading 1 point v Blackpool 1 point On the reverse: 'Lost' 2 points v Ipswich due to the diverted Jason Scotland shot 1 point v Leicester due to a great Goal keeping performance Any more to consider? At the moment we appear to be getting that element of 'luck' that' all successful sides need/deserve
  19. How many have we been given for/against us this season?
  20. Reading an article from a Pompey fan making disparaging comments about a so called 'Fund raising' game when we were in admin My recollection on this is rather hazy but wasn't the idea drummed up by a supporter rather than the club and was actually put on hold as the Liebherr take over wason the cards? Separately how many turned up to 'Pack the Park' when Kanu had his testimonial after the Cup 'Triumph'? That question turns my mind back to that glorious Monday night in 1976 when the Dell was rammed for Mick Channon's testimonial How no one was injured in the crush on the terraces that night is beyond me. Fortunately I was sat at the back of the West Stand. A group of QPR reserve team players were sat nearby and they couldnt believe the atmosphere
  21. The Maybach had a 'mirror' finish. Most unusual He reckoned that Milwall will beat us tomorrow Quite likes the Southampton area Apparently he has an honorary degree from Solent Uni
  22. I was captivated about the Bilbao performance, the passion and colour of the crowd and the appluase for Rooney's goal I was in Bilbao in the summer and liked the place especially when I was complemented by local tour guide for the saints motif on my T shirt
  23. Comment from the daughter of Fred Dineage, who is MP for Gosport, as reported in Hansard on 18th Janaury 'I am in favour of any positive discrimination that involves Portsmouth FC'' No doubt echoing Dad's comments and playing to the gallery
  24. This comment needs a link to the photo of the Pompey caravan parked up on a trailer in Millbrook Rd!!
  25. Slightly different slant on this, Anyone remember Luis Suarez playing for Ajax in a pre season Ted Bates trophy game and absolutely murdering out back four at the time?
