Alan Ball Charity Dinner at the Devonshire Hotel, Liverpool
spyinthesky posted a topic in The Saints
Understand from someone close to Everton FC that MLT was guest speaker at a Charity Dinner for Alan Ball last night organised by Ronnie Goodlass (ex Everton player) Apparently MLT went down very well and was a credit to himself and SFC. He took a bit of light hearted stick but gave back as good as he got and was respected for that Good man!! Not sure if the 1984 Semi Final game was mentioned but this was before Le Tiz's time -
Don't think that Katharina/Markus side of the family have much/anything to do with the crane/heavy engineering part of the business
-
My initial thoughts were positive. Great to see as many of our players as possible representing themselves, their countries and SFC at the World Cup. However on a more parochial level, I wonder if the lack of a summer break will mean that our World Cup players may return tired, or carrying knocks from the competition?

Duncan Thanks for sharing Sounds good

Is there an obligation to report attendance at a Driver Awareness Course to your insurer? If so presume it adversely affects your insurance premium

Like the vast majority of supporters I was happy with the set up and the 'vision' on the assumption that Cortese was the owners 'man' and had their full backing and whilst the team was successful (which it really should have been with the financial backing in place) However there were a number of issues that I was personally unhappy about (but for my sins was willing to overlook whilst the team was on an upward trend) The number of stories, from a variety of good and respected sources about Cortese's attitude to people and local businesses did him, and more importantly, the club's standing in the local and wider community, no good at all. I do hope the new administration will continue to progress the club and they seem intent in forging closer links with supporters and the wider community so lets hope we move on and consign Cortese to an item in Duncan and Co's next book (btw this is a must read for all supporters and a great effort!!)

Speed Camera A338 Wessex Way, Dean Park, Westbound
spyinthesky replied to spyinthesky's topic in Motoring Forum
The notice says Dean Park so assumed it was one of the first set of cameras opposite the football ground -
Any one know what the speed limit along this road is please? I assumed it was 50mph and this is shown on a relevant website However I have been sent a notice of intended prosecution with a notified speed of 47 mph Any assistance appreciated

Post-Match Reaction: SAINTS 2-0 Everton
spyinthesky replied to Saint-Armstrong's topic in The Saints
Everton fans complaining that it was one of their worse performances of the season, against a side who weren't all that good.... oh and they were robbed by the referee!! Seems such a familiar response by quite a few supporters, particularly the 'bigger' clubs, when we have dominated a game -
Interesting clip. 1. Game much different now. Then much more robust and copious long balls. I reckon our current side are better than the side of 1984. Frank Worthington was a better striker than Osvaldo and Shilton would be an asset to todays side as would Danny Wallace. 2. Shorts ....short!! 3. Pitch... worn as usual for time 4. Pass back to keeper ... he could collect and then wallop up field 5. Offside... an offence even if not interfering with play 6. Southall kept Everton in the game. We had some decent chances. 7. My recollection of the game was that we dominated but it seems we were on the rack second half 8. I thought their goal came after an incorrect throw in was given to Everton. However it came after a free kick against Reuben Agboola 9. Still remember the disappointment

Unfortunately not so relevant now but before the Man City game there was the usual chorus of..'We are Southampton, we're off to Brazil'.. followed by '''You dirty skate b***ARDs you're off to the Skrill'.. There was also rendition of the old favourite.. 'Pompey, Pompey, give us your answer do, what's it like to go down from Division 2' (probably needs to be changed to 'Stuck in Division 2, for next year)

I guess most supporters are relatively happy with the performance of our midfield However Steve Davis, Morgan, Jack Cork, Big Vic and JWP have amassed a combined total of over 500 appearances and returned 17 goals. Not exactly free scoring If Ramirez is looked upon as a midfielder his figures are 48 appearances and 8 goals

Bearing in mind that Terry was most likely a Cortese appointment, I wonder if he has the same relationship with Katherina and the new Execs and he will remain as Club President? Meanwhile understand that the Board Room was fully occupied for the last game, compared to the Cortese days when it was a bit embarrassing for away Directors and the like. Apparently Katherina brings a lot of friends to games she attends and seems to enjoy the experience, which hopefully is a good sign. I suppose we should be under no illusions that the Liebherr family had no initial interest in football, or Southampton FC, and probably still see it as an investment opportunity but the hope is that the football experience, decent results and the gratitude of Saints fans will ensure the family ownership will ensure the club continues to progress.

A group of us were having a chat recently about our recent signings and the value for money they provided. Our initial thoughts were not too positives but once the detail has been examined it is perhaps not that bad, bearing in mind most clubs assume that the success rates for transfers in is normally below 75% For what it is worth here are our assessments of the current signings since entering the Prem. BORUC Cost - Free Value - Nil Rating 7.5/10 CLYNE " - £2.5m " - £4m " 7.5/10 LOVREN " - £8.0m " - £10m " 8.5/10 YOSHIDA " - £3.0m " - £2.5m " 6.5/10 MAYUKA " - £2.5m " - Nil " 0/10 OSVALDO " - £13m " - £10m " 3.0/10 RAMIREZ " - £12m " - £9m " 5.5/10 WANYAMA " - £10m " - £10m " 7.0/10 FORREN " - £3.0m " - Nil " 0/10 DAVIS " - £0.5m " - £1m " 8.0/10 RODRIGUEZ " - £8.0m " - £15m " 8.0/10 GAZZANIGA " - £1.5m " - Nil " 4.0/10 TOTAL £64.0m £61.5m So out of 12 players, four have proved to be real turkeys, although Gazzaniga is young and could improve,, six have been above average and two average. It would have been good to get more value out of our two bigger signings and not have to suffer the ignomy of the Forren and possibly Mayuka transfers but overall not too bad a performance

Any one had to have them repaired and if so any local recommendations?
-
Apparently our friends down the road will be using the Marchwood blueprint for their new training complex at Hilsea However it might start off more modestly
-
Any one know if/how this presumed asset sits in the club's accounts? With the need for increased house building and the relaxation of planning laws is there any chance of development of Jacksons Farm to the benefit of the club? Presumably the grand plans for development of the stadium and surrounding area have now been shelved after publication of the less than wonderful annual accounts

George Is Bordeaux worth a visit? Always fancied it for some reason Do you watch the Girondins? Remember saints playing a two leg tie with them many years ago in the Anglo French Cup -
Can confirm that Rogers was definitely about to leave the area before a recall at the 11th hour

31,360 Approx. 1,200 short of capacity BUT Sold Out Signs at Ticket office Appreciate there were a few hundred seats lost to segregation and perhaps not sold out in Hospitality but there were small blocks of empty seats in various parts of the ground so these weren't due to the odd ticket holder not turning up Wonder if anyone on here tried to but a ticket on the day and missed out?

Glad to see that I wasn't the only one who was hooked on the programme for all the wrong reasons In the same class as some of the 'dramas' on the ill fated Southampton TV
