  1. Nigh = near.
  2. Well then it would become a no contest wouldn't it. In the CL, living in a principality where there is virtually no tax and playing with a fellow countryman against playing in the PL with a mid table side, probably not even playing at all à la Gardos and paying shedloads of tax for the privilege.
  3. Who can say with JRod, he was on fire in the Pochettino system until he got injured. Did the system make more of him than he actually is? Did being surrounded by such brilliant players make him look better than he actually was.
  4. Oh drat, 38/3 again.
  5. Vieira only yesterday: "I think to have my name linked with Saint-Etienne or any other team is always flattering, I think it's always good," Vieira said. "But it stops there. It's not going any further than that -- I am really happy here, I am really into the project because it is really exciting what we're trying to build at this football club and I want to be part of it." So signing with us by the end of the week it is then.
  6. No No, he definitely turned them down...twice.
  7. Won toss, going to bat. Hopefully get a solid start from Carberry and Adams.
  8. Does constructive betting exist? Like you know putting a hundred on a complete outsider to push your real bet out to better odds. I see that De Boer has drifted to 6/1 ish with Sky. Ah right I see now that De Boer is 1/2 or the job at Palace, probably explains why he's 6/1 for Saints.
  9. Vieira would be interesting, can't really see it happening though.
  10. Although it was only a matter of time really.
  11. Well he wasn't exactly a shrinking violet who'd only played for Bishop's Stortford was he. Major, major, international player.
  12. In fact I did, I felt that it was a step forward.
  13. But why would he quit the Belgium job now with just a year before the final stages when his side are as good as qualified already (might even be, haven't checked). The time to give up that job for another league job is next summer, not now. He failed in his last year at Everton really so won't have much choice now, next year if Belgium should do well in Russia he'll be on the up and up.
  14. Well as I watched Pochettino at PSG and Bordeaux I at least knew what kind of player he had been. I thought it a pretty decent appointment as, as you will all remember, I was absolutely convined that for the PL Adkins wasn't really good enough.
  15. I don't know but a lot of these names being mentioned reek of a typical Watford or Hull managerial punt, don't see much proven quality at all.
  16. Well we know that we sacked our manager at least. So 1 out of 3 isn't bad... Personally I'm more interested in the take over getting done. We need to move on and get some real money into the club, it's origin does not overly concern me.
  17. He's coaching the Belgian national side now isn't he with Thierry Henry as his assistant ? Could see the ploy there, hire Martinez get Henry as well and see what happens.
  18. Oh fire extinguisher training courses are good fun, especially when you do them once a year and they're always the same. People get pretty blasé and usually end up spraying the rest of the class through inattention. Surprised they're not mandatory though. NB. Our fire extinguishers are coded with a little pictogram, then again I guess the French are stupid enough not to remember codes, numbers or colours. It's so simple even fools can use them.
  19. And one or two efficient fire extinguishers for each flat would cost how much ? Including mandatory annual maintainence. Gas supply is of course a problem but I presume it can be shut down. Are fire extinguishers even obligatory in UK dwellings ?
  20. Yep, I was down Hythe way the other week, never seen so many "council houses" with swimming pools in the garden.
  21. Err Bob Bradley?? Bloke has no UK or even first class pedigree. He's a third world coach by the look of it. We have our structure and I can see no point in running after this bloke just because he originates from Southampton.
  22. Ah right, that situation doesn't exist here,(well as far as I know anyway) an HLM block is just that, you can't buy your flat or sublet it (in theory). They can also turf you out if you earn over a certain threshold or no longer meet the requirements for HLM housing..
  23. And when we're selling players we seem to be able to do deals when the TW is in theory closed. The deals are done anyway and just officially ratified when the window formally opens.
  24. Still why let details like that get in the way of a bit of Council/Government bashing. I have been reading about the couple of Italian Architects who came to Britain to get the sort of salary they couldn't get in Italy, sad isn't it. Still amazes me that they could get a council flat though or have waiting lists just faded away these last years.
  25. Our owner doesn't have the money, there is no "they" it is "she", that is the point. I thought we'd established that by now.
