like any University social life should be, if you can remember it well you probably weren't there. (sorry about the misquote Paul)
-
so what does a non-executive chairman actually decide then, compared to an executive chairman? Forgive my ignorance if you please you city lads and lasses.

He didn't even sell his stake AFAIK he gave it away to his brothers, sisters, cousins and what have you. He went out on his own with Mali and it's 5 constituent parts. AFAIK everything has been liquidated apart from a sort of consultancy affair that has had it's HG moved from the Friburg canton (where the family resides) to Zurich.Up until not long back Cortese still ran everything with 1 other director, bloke called Werner or Hehli .

Which is all well and good unless you actually believe that all the current owner wants to do is sell the club to the highest bidder. There's nothing to be gained by spending money now in that case.
-
what other family members ? there are just the 2 girls as far as I know and one seems to be a horsey type with no interest in business whatsoever. I think the fact that Cortese was still running everythng for over 3 years after Markus's death tells another story. You need to comprehend that the rest of the Liebherr family have nothing to do with this branch...nothing whatsoever.

Yes but some argued it was to gain some tax advantage or other. Personally I have no idea, I'm just quoting a figure that I saw in one of the many threads started yesterday.
-
I thought it was quite clear...no-one in, no-one out. It's what's been said all along and I guess now we know why. We aren't going to go down, the European football dream has evaporated so there's no need to strengthen as of yet. That will no doubt be left to whoever buys the club from it's current owner.

didn't we make about 900K profit last season...or was that just a figure someone made up to support some hypothesis or other? If we spent 30 million last season and still made 900K then I can't see us making any less this season as we'll get more Sky money.

Mauricio Pochettino staying as Southampton manager - Official

And they will find plenty of people with "inside knowledge" to fuel their arguments whichever way they want to lean. It's all just a gabfest, few know anything, many claim to know much. Personally I'm just looking forward to tomorrow to see how the players are taking it but as I'm convinced that they knew as much as there is to know for a while now I can't see much difference being apparent. -
£30 million for for Luke Shaw should we take it?
Window Cleaner replied to modern matron's topic in The Saints
Mourinho doesn't play wonder boys, he likes seasoned pros, players with status and standing. We really need to get away from this myth that Chelsea are going to give us loads of money for Shaw. If Mourinho had wanted to sign a left back he'd be going for Coentrao and maybe he still is. Coentrao was one of Mourinho's go to players at Real, if he's available he'd be his first choice and will cost far less than all of these speculative amounts for Shaw. -
I don't really understand where the 50K comes from, I can only see a sort of "if we had some eggs we could have bacon and eggs if we had some bacon" arguement. Might have misunderstood though, the club didn't want to sell the book for whatever reason or other so they didn't sell any but nothing was lost and nothing was gained so I don't see how 50K was "spunked" anywhere. Now the club stores have plenty of merchandise to sell so perhaps the sale of a book would take away sales from another article where the profit potential is higher...I've no idea.

More the fool Gus for believing that the players and staff have only just found out about it all then. They knew for a while already. A Chairman and CEO resigning is not something that can be hidden from those most concerned. Now perhaps the date of his departure might have been in doubt, perhaps there were chances that it would be resolved otherwise but the players knew that something was up ...count on it.

the French press are still talking about it though, all day, every day. In the end Hollande will be sent packing from power because of this affair because just the tip of the iceberg is known as of yet. The french pretend to be totally unconcerned in general but if you heard them in the canteens and bars you'd know differently. They tell the opinion poll people that they don't care just to look a bit classy but they still tattle about it whenever the subject is raised. Hollande is extremely unpopular anyway, probably because he just doesn't know what he's doing.

well I think Delia Smith is some sort of majority shareholder at Norwich but she doesn't run the club all by herself. Then there is Karen Brady who might have owned Birmingham at one time, can't remember all of the details though.
-
I see that ridiculously low odds are now being quoted on Lallana joining Manchester Utd, a lot of money being wagered on that since yesterday apparently. Let's hope the bookies make another silly bet killing then.

players obviously knew anyway, we saw the worst effects against Chelsea.

Maybe Katarina has better plans for the club than NC had

compared to the photo shown in post 57 I'm quite surprised, Toblerone abuse problem perhaps ? -

don't think so, think we had to give Aviva a further 4 million or so under certain conditions...which we did a couple of years back. Stadium debt was never 60 million anyway. Some say that this is fairly accurate http://swissramble.blogspot.fr/2012/01/southampton-saints-alive.html
