  1. In fact MPo (which is what he has marked on his training kit) is one of just 3 PL managers to have played at a WC final tournament so why Lawrie Mac had never heard of him I just couldn't say, even if it was only for bringing down Owen. Just kind of shows how far football management is getting from the sharp end of the game.
  2. Have you never watched Utd grind down minnows for 90 minutes and then hit them with a Fergie time winner ? All PL teams are decent and have good players, there are no pushovers and you just have to keep on battering them until they crack. As most of you will never have witnessed an Arsenal game in their double year you'll probably not know what I'm on about. Winning is now about constant attrition and little else. I'm sure once we get the League 1 and NPC years out of our system we'll stop expecting champagne football every week; It was so easy then with what turned out to be half a PL team battering the likes of Oldham and Dagenham and Redbridge nigh on every Saturday.
  3. Gaston will become a major player for us once we can filter Lambert out of the system, until then he'll be a bit part player which is OK because he's got plenty of time. You cannot start with Gaston,Osvaldo,Lallana and Lambert and as we're not going to drop any of the other 3 just yet Gaston will have to bide his time and we need to be patient about that..We've been lucky so far 6 games when we've been able to call on all of our first rate players except Clyne (and how that cost us at Norwich) but you can never tell how long that will remain the case.
  4. wouldn't be the only spot for that on the A75 either, the drop to St Germain du Teil must have been pretty tricky as well. Still apart from the bridge which you can cut out for 20 minutes extra anyway it's a decent road for free. Use it a lot, always go by Millau in the summer though cos..well I'm a cheapskate.
  5. Top 6 is possible (although not probable) with the start that we've made, 11 points from 6 would give you 69 or so from 38 which is comfortably top 6 but a step short of top 5 because last season there was a 9 point gulf between 5th and 6th. Don't think anyone in the whole wide world would be disappointed with 6th though or even 7th provided a top 5 club wins both of the cups and we'd stroll into Europe.
  6. Au contraire, in 2003/4 Charlton were above Bolton and Fulham were one place back, Pompey were in the PL, so were Middlesborough and Wolves. Arsenal won the title with their skinflint policy. In fact 9 of the sides that were in the PL in 2003/4 have now fallen by the wayside presumably they could no longer assemble the budgets needed to compete at the highest level which is basically what happened to Saints in 2004/5. Do you think we would be riding so high if Markus's millions hadn't allowed us to build a 70 million £ side?
  7. Trouble there is that lorries are limited to 50 Km/h, you're limited to 70 and that there are radars everywhere, makes overtaking hazardous because of the bends, always quite please to see the Lodeve panel, a quite stressful descent on big lorry and camper van days.
  8. Wouldn't have been much without Lukaku though and he was just on loan. West Brom are the PLs loan champions, always manage to get good players for nowt apart from the odd sky high wage packet that is.
  9. but he had some decent players all the same, perhaps we should be looking at salarial mass as well, can't imagine that Djorkaeff and Okocha played for them for peanuts. Wasn't it one of their policies at the time I think, free transfers, high salaries ?
  10. No, I personally think he's a pretty good manager but the point is here that someone is saying that Pochettino needs to do better than Sam's league position record (which he probably does anyway) but then you're comparing inequals. If Sam had the squad that he has now in his Bolton days he'd probably finish above those positions himself. BFS get's the priorities right, not losing is nearly as important as winning.
  11. Game has moved on since then, wouldn't get out of the NPC now with the group of players that Bolton had then.
  12. then again maybe not, still as the NFC East is composed of 4 serial losers all is to play for. Beat the Giants and the Cowboys and we'll probably win the division. See what Saint76er meant about the D now though, abysmal.
  13. It's probably a regular occurence, m-c says that these are his regular neighbours so the flask probably gets passed around on a regular basis, stewards might even be on the look out for it and m-c got caught in the 'pass the parcel'. No-one is going to admit to bringing the flask into the stadium because it's a criminal offence so if they saw him with it on the CCTV he's the fall guy this time.
  14. then you must be suspected of bringing the flask into the stadium, police deal with crimes, stewards with misdemeanours as far as I can tell..
  15. bet he didn't expect the Spanish Inquisition,
  16. and no Merrington commentary, got to be a bonus.
  17. And how was Turandot ?
  18. probably a lot of them, confuses The Bill no end. They're looking for one bloke when there are really probably about 140.
  19. pity they don't have a decent front man though, if they had anything better than that yank lump they'd be pretty potent.

    Top Four

In fact by merely reproducing last season's points total for the remaining 32 games we would finish at least 8th by last season's standards. So with our actual start 8th would be a pretty disappointing performance actually.
  21. I don't think it's about drinking beer on the train, well not beer provided on the train anyway. I'm sure it's meant to be taking your own beer and other forms of alcoholic beverage onto special buses and trains destined only for football. Otherwise it's a bit silly really.
  22. In the latter case the crime would be introducing a glass bottle I think. I don't doubt that there's far more to this case than the OP has exposed though Perhaps someone ratted him out. People do strange things at football if they see someone doing something they disagree with.
  23. 500K£, that's not much to quibble over, thought he'd get far more than that for 3 years of outstanding contract. Works out at about 3K a week.
  24. Thursday isn't it ? Watched them against the Arse yesterday, not that great and riddled with defensive errors but in their defence I think they had a weakened side out. Dyer runs fast but mainly down dead end streets. Michu is a constant threat but Mertesacker and Koscielny had him well under control.
  25. You might have done nothing that you consider wrong but the owner of the flask has committed a crime, you want your ticket back, name and shame, that's my advice to you. National Legislation The Government has introduced a series of legislative measures to combat hooliganism. The following types of behaviour have been made a criminal offence:  Entering a stadium when drunk or in possession of alcohol  Possession of a firework, flare or other pyrotechnical device  Possession of alcohol on trains and/or coaches when travelling to a football match  Throwing any object at or towards the pitch or spectator areas  Entering the pitch without lawful excuse  Indecent or racist chanting  Ticket touting
