  1. so if we were to sell Punch to Palace giving him a new contract in fact just had the effect of making us 3 million £ less whatever we may have paid him in terms of a signing bonus. That is called money for old rope, it would eventually have cost us very little and brought a fair bit in. Any player who can score goals in the PL should never be left in an out of contract situation unless he's on more salary than he's worth, which wouldn't be the case for Punch. Gaston had a great (half) game for Uruguay the other day, lovely diagonal ball that set up Suarez's goal plus some good tackling and ball recovery in midfield and a few really good runs and a couple of decent shots. If he has a decent game again tonight and shows up in the Conferderations Cup then we'll have no trouble getting a packet for him.I'd regret that because he is the type of player to take us forward but he needs ability, that we don't yet have, in front of him.
  2. strange sleeves, look like they've been tacked on as an afterthought.
  3. AS Rome is part owned by a bank you know, perhaps he's been visiting some of his old aquaintances down that way. Anyway the Naples president has been saying that he offered 40 million euros to Unicredit (Roma) for Lamela and another player but Roma only wanted to let him have Osvaldo but as he has Cavani he doesn't need him.
  4. but he wasn't, the only time he actually played RB was when we switched Clyne to the left. On all other occasions Maya or Corky filled in at RB I think.
  5. Takes penalties so you can shave a few goals off from his total if you want to compare him to any of our existing MF on goals. Got at least 3 from pens so that puts him on a par with Gaston and Morgan and below Punch. 10 yellows and a red make him a not very exciting prospect.
  6. I can see at least 2 reasons for this not happening Too old and not good enough, think we'll be signing a first choice LB anyway..
  7. which is evident from the photo showing the 2 charts above, not the same graphology.
  8. excellent but Deschamps helped by selecting a total oaf at CB just because he plays for Porto or Benfica or whatever it is, there are far better CBs than Mangala to choose from but unfortunately for them they don't play in the CL.
  9. half (or even 3 quarters) of a PL side got us 2 back to back promotions...very little to do with Adkins.
  10. perhaps they'll take the pair of them in part exchange for Denilson who they must be desperate to get rid of. Wenger works on a "if he's got boots sign him system" and then sifts through the rubbish he's bought hoping to find a nugget. Sort of scout's jumble sale policy. As he eventually finds players he can get 4 or 5 good years out of and then sell them to Utd and Citeh at 500% profit it obviously works on occasions and pays for all of the failures.
  11. In fact with the round of WC qualifiers being played in the main on Friday evening then Saturday would be the first available day for most players involved in those games. After that most players will be off on holiday apart from those involved in ongoing leagues and the Confederations Cup.
  12. depends on McKenzie really.
  13. I think that if it was Astori it would be all over tuttomercato by now, what they don't know isn't worth knowing. There's nothing concerning us and Astori so it isn't happening as yet.
  14. But in their current state Villa are just one departure away from being a truly awful side. Villa=Benteke and 10 other blokes, especially with Weimann seemingly wanting away as well.
  15. that would be good news for certain.
  16. Can't compare Weimann and Sharp certainly, Weimann is fast, runs from deep, Sharp is just a goal hanger.
  17. so not a player retained for the confederations cup then which starts on the 15th in Brazil so not Astori, simple logic.Unless he's going to make a week-end stop-off between playing for Italy in Prague on Friday and leaving for Brazil on Sunday.
  18. Feature in even 2 games between the lot of them requires some serious imagination. The whole pack of them minus Guly will feature in about zero'ish PL games.
  19. http://www.saintsweb.co.uk/showthread.php?45029-Retained-List-When-Published post 53 I think
  20. yep, Nicola probably really had to employ himself to talk Mme Liebherr into releasing the funds to sign this wonder boy.Probably told him we had to release at least 4 of our other perennial will be a great player one day to finance it.
  21. but the fact that we played Maya at RB instead of relying on Richardson tells you all you need to know. We couldn't rely on any of them because they would just have been ridiculised in the PL.
  22. probably not, I mean how long did he actually last at Real's well whatever it is for 7 year olds ? Morgan was at Strasbourg at 5 and was still there when he was 18, plenty of other examples at Saints as well.
  23. not so sure, there are a lot of very accomplished footballers looking for contracts just now. See them both as League 2 or non-league myself.
  24. make that 18, players with a real future make the first team group and even the bench on occasions in the PL, the rest are just in transit to football's frozen hinterlands like Yeovil and Crewe. Reeves was obviously never good enough for the Pl or even the NPC and yet many told me he was a star in the making, there are a lot of bad judges of footballing ability around.
