Saints vs Royal Engineers - Second Half and Post Match Thread
Window Cleaner replied to Guided Missile's topic in The Saints
might have been Maplin's for all I remember,I was like 12. -
Always assumed it was VFT Top in the naval sense myself. You know up the mast, little platform and all that. VFTT was a naval man I think.

But we'll play Hammond somewhere. Some rate him, I don't but then Nigel picks the team.

Ahh crystal sets, I remember those places down Bevois Valley where you went to get all your diodes, resistors and variable potentiometers and stuff. Radio Luxembourg on 208 metres was about the only station I ever could find. -
Didn't we all Fortunately for us mere mortals of that era girls didn't know what every potential gazillonaire footballer looked like.

Didn't his brother keep that at one time??

must be pushing on 60 now, do they have galley maintainers (kitchen porter in civvy I guess) at that age??

And the MOTM poll, there'd still be votes though,I've noticed that there are a few who vote(usually for the same player every time) who were on the match thread all afternoon or evening. I suppose it could be OK if they posted afterwards having seen the Full 90 or something but no,they're there the instant the poll opens. -
Thread title needs changing before the site gets hit with libel cases. Gary Speed-Lastest rumours and hearsay. would be better.

Some people are vulgar, uneducated morons. The red tops cater for them.Don't know if any of you have ever been on the old Calais-dover ferries, just watch an average coach party arrive on one of them,it's frightening. When you've seen that you can understand all you need to know about "average Britain".

Interesting player, plays right back for us but I think he played in midfield at Leeds as well, would be what? one of 4 players in our group with Premier League experience. Edit: ah no make that 5 forgot Chaplow.

Very interesting comment from NA on his Donny build-up,talking about Jos and José he says that defending is now about interceptions rather than tackles because you don't want to give free-kicks away.Roughly what I was saying on some thread or other yestersterday in response to those who say we stand off of players and don't get stuck in enough.

sounds like a right court-jester

Well yes, perhaps never was a bit of poetic licence but the little empty blocks everywhere in the ground did amaze me somewhat.

Are people still waiting for Pompey ticket email?
Window Cleaner replied to 1976_Child's topic in The Saints
DEFINITELY Please, please learn to spell this word correctly, for me, thanks a lot. -
I'm willing to be convinced about De Ridder but I feel he's being given the role he merits for the time being. Having looked at the first half full 90 from Tuesday I'd say that Cork was absolutely transparent and his being replaced by De Ridder was absolutely necessary.Lallana was totally transparent in the first half as well and yet people blame Guly and the formation for our lack of punch.Morgan did far better on the right than Lallana did on the left.Looking forward to finding time to look at the second half though. Crowd totally absent as well, never seen so many empty seats bet there weren't 22K people actually in the Stadium.

Stats after 19, we will need many away points?
Window Cleaner replied to NickG's topic in The Saints
Although our chances would be vastly improved by a lot of draws between our rivals and a lot more draws concerning our rivals. A draw is a nothing result, true it's better than a loss but you need 3 draws to equal 1 win. -
Portsmouth away tickets - ballot reopened!

half of our fans seem to live in London or it's suburbs anyway -
Where are they going to get the money from ??

Oxo was pretty nifty on the defensive side, don't think De Ridder possesses that attribute as of yet. De Riddler is an enigma to me,he wasn't always a starter at De Grafschaap you know, there are a lot of sub appearances in his only 1st division season there and he didn't score a lot of goals in that one season either. Most of his starts(and goals) came the season before when they were in a lower league. It's true he's quick and has a certain address in front of goal but his stamina is obviously questionable as are the 4 yellows he's gotten already. Now in Holland I don't think he got booked very often, probably because he wasn't required to track back or tackle.Mind you De Grafschaap were pretty sh*t last season.

perhaps it's not the ticket office that are running the checks -
Probably nothing to do with the ability of the player, more a problem of Celtic and their tea-boy manager. He might well understand Scottish football but the few minutes european action that I've seen of them tells me that there Lennon is completely out of his depth. He's a dinosaur so they play prehistoric football.

liked that, especially the references to some Saint's fans living in the past and not appreciating just what they've got now and the bit about the sending off tackle winning the VC in 1971. Football has changed, trouble is some of our fans just don't get the "new fangled" stuff. I saw a reference earlier on in this thread to the fact that we stand off and don't go lunging into tackles the instant the opposition get the ball, that's because that's the way the coaches and manager want the game played rather than any personal choice of the player. You're absolutely firkin useless dumped on you ass or sitting in the changing room because you've copped 2 yellows for desperate tackles.

I don't think we do rely on Chaplow all that much, he's done a really useful job in RM because he adds something going forward and something defensive as well. He's only been playing the position since the Boro game though and we'd had good results before that. Chaplow in an attacking role helped to offset the lack of Lallana for the games he was missing, it also allowed Guly to move into a more central role that Connolly had been looking sharp in before he got injured/knackered. Thing is now that Chappers is out for a while we can't necessarily move Guly back to his role on the right unless we can rely on Barnard to play the 90 and get some results at it.De Ridder ?? well you all tell me because I don't think Nigel knows what to do with him either,he's not really a goalscorer and he's not really a wide man.Not sure that you can have Lallana and De Ridder starting in the same side.
