  1. Wasn't it said at the time though that someone claiming to represent Paul Allen contacted the board but when eventually asked to produce some credentials to that affect he mysteriously disappeared? Thought it came out that way at Runnymede anyway.
  2. Callum Davenport, how could I overlook an icon such as he.If we had played with 10 men and an apprentice we'd probably have come out of it better off. Trotman;whilst not ever going to be one of the greats, was OK for a while, then he found out that Preston (was it?) wanted him back and he sort of gave up.
  3. Anyone who puts up a best saints XI without Mark Wright is just deluded. Mark Wright and Dave Watson are the best 2 centre backs we've ever had.Chris Nicholl follows close behind. Lundekvam would be lucky to clean their boots. It's a no brainer. Wayman instead of Shearer ....yeah right, Reeves was better.
  4. Another miserable batting display by the middle order, McKenzie should probably go in at 3 because Myburgh is just going to try and hoick everything over either midwicket or the pavillion and it's a free wicket for the opposition. Somerset will now score about 400 and we'll be in the crapper again.
  5. Subs only started in about 67/68. Plenty of old cup finals finished with 10 a side,Wembley was a bit of a jinxed stadium. What I meant was that clubs didn't have 2 players for every position like they do now, they had a team and a few peripheral players to boot. When you had too many injuries you filled in with substandard players.Southampton used to have an "A" team which played in the Hampshire League, if there were a lot of first team injuries you might even have got a game.
  6. Myburgh needs to learn the difference between one day and four day cricket. About 10 balls, a 6 and a 4 and then out for 10. 154/2 now; hope we're not going to screw up a great start again.
  7. Probably because we had loads of injuries. Teams had about 12 players in those days.
  8. They be deluded then. If they think we'll let them beat us for old time's sake that is. We'll probably crush them, who knows we might have Ox and Morgan back for a run-out in that game.Any other result will bring about "Saints let them have 125K for Stephens to keep afloat and then helped them out with a weak side" accusations from the other relegation candidates.Thet'll be another 2 or 3 teams that hate us then.
  9. After the Plymouth game although Huddersfield might still be able to overtake us by scoring 15 more goals than us in their last game...which won't happen. Brighton will fold on Saturday.
  10. We might be looking at getting to 150 or so without loss and then try to push on a bit.
  11. Even so I personally would much rather see Harding at left-back for all 3 games, same with Butterfield on the right.
  12. Wish he'd tried to close Alexander down a bit harder then. Free shot from 25 out, true Kelvin should have done better because it was scuffed. Dickson was shocking in that game...absolutely shocking. Only time I've been to a game where he's started, I guess my particularly low opinion of him is based on that performance.
  13. probably boycotting and marching around the Bargate or something like that.
  14. Doubt if there's any postal delivery on Friday though,so it's tomorrow or Saturday.
  15. Perhaps Brentford let us have a few extra ones at the last minute or something of that ilk.
  16. I doubt that we'll use Dickson in midfield when we have perfectly good midfielders available. Doubt if NA has much time for sentiment about squeezing players in somewhere just because it's their former club. If Dickson starts it will be at left back.
  17. Are you sh*tting me? Brentford at home, he just stood there and let Alexander shoot, didn't try to close down or anything.Kelvin then helped him out and let the ball roll in.
  18. indeed, whole country is going to be in a right mess on Saturday morning. Can't really understand why the club have left it so late but I'm sure they have their reasons.
  19. Good to see some patient 4 day batting from the openers there, got bogged down a bit by Willoughby and Trego but stuck with it and eventually saw off Trego.
  20. that's a bit short with Friday being a public holiday and all that.If the post f*cks up they'll have to wait until Saturday morning.
  21. Just hoping for some solid first innings batting from Hants ,330/350 should put Somerset under a bit of pressure,7/0 at the moment. Lumb? well I guess he's taken the King's Shilling and is in for the duration.
  22. Billy Sharp was Scùnthorpe's main striker in their first promotion season. Scored about 30 goals and then went to Doncaster.
  23. true he had a big effect in the latter part of the season but like Lallana he's missed an awful lot of games or just been a sub for a few minutes at the end.You have to take into account the contribution over the whole season I think.
  24. I sent in my vote by e-mail and got a reply from the club, I also got a 'bounced mail' notice for the same mail. Strange huh.
