  1. Money alone won't do the trick what he wants (or at least what his old man seems to want) is global recognition.Same as many many other 17 year olds who are moving about the footballing world for millions of £s. I sometimes get the idea that Theo Walcott is the bench mark, if Walcott did it then Chamberlain Snr wants it for his boy at the same age. Trouble is Lowe took any deal offered to him but Cortese wants to be considered as a hard man in the transfer market......full payment in advance if you please.
  2. That would not please QPR fans Taraabt out for 15 million,Puncheon in for 500K, good business though.
  3. Under 20s world cup starts in Colombia very shortly, that'll be the real cattle market of the summer, anyone useful and cheap will no doubt find himself with a decent contract by the end of it. All the old favourites will be down there with piles of standard contracts just ready to be signed on the dotted line, no doubt there will be plenty of agents as well to try and make a few bucks from them.
  4. St Richmond has been an "ultra contestataire" about anything he gets a bee in his bonnet about for a long time, one of the first ultra anti-Lowe pundits together with another poster who doesn't seem to post any more. Between the two of them they preached that Lowe was leading us down the road to ruin long before it became evident to all the world, and this was back at the start of the decade, after the stadium but before Strachan. Now with Lowe gone it's anything else about SFC that displeases him I guess.
  5. this is all to do with the gentryfication of football, old fogies who want to sit in the same place, with the same people for 2 hours on a Saturday. I guess it comes down to fear of the unknown which is fairly prevalent in the elderly(and some are elderly already at 35). What would these people have done if they'd been forcibly shipped off to a foreign land full of nasty diseases and nasty people trying to kill them as men were 70 years ago, probably have spent all their time complaining about not wireless access and having to slum it I guess.
  6. In fact you only have to look at the 2 goals from the Biel-Bienne game, meaningless friendly to be sure but Connolly is exactly where he should be to convert 2 easy headers(and I mean a game of 28 easy headers) and Lambert isn't, the first one has gone over his head and the second one..well can't remember where he is but not where a dolly drop cross hits his head anyway. The fact that we are known to have offered a lot of money for Sharp means that the club know we have striking problems so I guess they just don't see Lambert as a 20 odd goal threat next season, maybe going to convert him to a free/playmaker role which I think he'd do exceptionally well.
  7. correct, in a 4-2-3-1 formation the central player of the "3" element is the playmaker, the other 2 are the wide players .The 2 behind are recoverers/relayers, they do not need to spend all of their time in the opponents box, in fact none of their time, that's why player in these roles do not score goals, that's down to the 4 men in front of them. This formation came from the classic Arsenal side of 1997/8, the defence complained that they were being over-run because the midfield was too far forward, Wenger simply put in Viera and Petit to defend and break down play in front of the back 4.This is something that Saints must tackle,I hope to see Lallana really step up into his playmaker role this season when he's doing the same stuff as Nasri we'll know that he has.If he can't then we should let Ox have a stab at it, I'm sure that it would be just second nature to him.
  8. Anyway it's now up on the OS for those who care to look, STs available for collection.
  9. They have also brought in a wonder boy from Colombia and another from Barcelona, I do not doubt they have told us to f**k right off with our 10 million in cash.....if ever they were thinking about it in the first place. Arsenal want young players, they also need off the peg EPL and Champions league players so they're going to spend their money on the latter and find the former wherever they can but they ain't going to pay the price of the latter for the aforementioned if you get my drift.
  10. Thinking about it though, you'd think that we might like to win the MLMC wouldn't you, whether we'll be able to do that by playing Doble,Reeves and Forecast against either Werder or Bilbao is sort of tenuous. If we want to experiment and give everybody on the roster game time fair enough, play 2 teams against Eastleigh or something like that, but as for the MLMC well .......WIFM.
  11. Players with an awful disciplinary record like Damour won't be wanted at most clubs, didn't know this before but he copped 12 yellows and a red in 34 games last season. Makes our bad lads look like role models doesn't it.
  12. May be, L'Equipe know stuff, they knew that Sylvain Marveaux had turned down Liverpool in favour of Newcastle long before any English rags got wind of it. Anyway back to Damour, he's been touted about in Germany a bit according to my informant in Strasbourg, Moenchengladbach and Hoffenheim apparently, don't know how that went for him though. Can't see why we'd need another milieu relayeur though anyway,we're already over flush with them and 2 out of 4 already won't be happy with the bench time they'll be putting in. Damour would want to play and he's not going to get any game time at Saints straight away, not coming out of a diabolical standard like National.
  13. playing too much football no doubt, plus the European based players have difficulty playing with the home based players, happens in the African Nations Cup as well. Now wasn't someone telling me just the other day that you could put Messi into any old side and he'd turn up trumps for you ?
  14. Is there actually a press conference set to take place then, I thought it was just an alcohol induced wind up.
  15. Strasbourg are in a "depot de bilan" situation, plus they've been relegated from National to CFA because of budget deficits.Jafar Hilali has sold the club to a supporter for the symbolic 1 euro, what happens to them will depend on the DNCG when it hears RCS's appeal against the relegation admistrative.
  16. exactly :Probably why he never ever got much international recognition,MLT was a midfielder anyway, not our main striker, might have been our leading scorer though because he could shove them in from anywhere from open play situations, Lambert can't do that.
  17. really....................Barnard was our leading open play scorer last season,if Barney had taken and scored penalties instead of Lambert (provided he was on the pitch of course) he'd have scored 23 goals to Lambert's 21,given that he only had about 2/3rds of a season that ain't bad. Take away Barney's and Guly's goals last season and we'd have been in dire straights, which is why we just cannot rely on Lambert to get us the goals we need so you need another striker with him at all times.
  18. nothing in L'Equipe and if it ain't in L'Equipe it ain't happening, secret squirrel approach or no.
  19. Yes that's better but of course it leaves no place for a "new winger". Can't see why we'd need one myself because if Holmes can stay fit he's probably just as able as anyone for whom we may pay 1M£. Now if we had a real striker I'd be tempted to play Holmes on the wing R or L as you like switching during the game and use Ox in the free role behind the striker. This wouldn't work with Lambert though so it is probably highly unlikely to happen --------Cork---------Morgan------------ ---Holmes--------Ox-------------Lallana -A striker who can shift his ass when needed--------
  20. 4 games last season in fact, not so dusty from 800 miles away and working 1 saturday in 2.The real reason why I'm clueless is that I don't have a replica shirt, now if I had one I'd be a real supporter, even Alps has an XXXXL sash shirt.
  21. Nope, neither Lallana nor Lambert are potent enough in front of goal for that to work.If you're going to play Lambert you need a striker with himConnolly,Guly,Barnard or A.N.Other,this is why we are obliged to play classic 4-4-2 most of the time rather than 4-2-3-1
  22. That we'd got an awful lot of penalties???? At the expense of repeating myself ad infinitum Lambert is not a hot shot striker,or at least he wasn't last season, he scored 21 goals of which 8 were penalties. He may do sterling work in the build up phase and slot away spot kicks very prettily but compared to Murray and CMS he wasn't a great goalscorer last season. Barnard was our best open play goalscorer.
  23. signed for AEK Athens on a 2 year contract so he's obviously got the pay-day he was looking for.Europa league football as well.
