Where does productivity enter the equation?

Fortunate you were on gardening leave during Mané's initial spell, right pal.

Because there's no indication that our current policy is driven by financial fair play considerations. Samuel would, no doubt, respond that yes, FFP might block us if we really wanted to roll the dice; but he's not calling for that. Rather his criticism is that we don't show ambition by taking advantage of the latitude we do have -certainly not in a manner that's consistent, in his eyes, with the hype and self-congratulation of the Southampton Way.

It was probably from a guardian article citing a TUC report, though the years are wrong and not sure how the figures are calculated. This source is very credible (p.6). Paints the same picture, albeit less stark. Figure 4 is very interesting and people wonder why young people are angry and want change. http://cep.lse.ac.uk/pubs/download/ea036.pdf?utm_content=buffer11cd5&utm_medium=social&utm_source=twitter.com&utm_campaign=buffer

Surely you know someone among your friends and friends who your got an inflation-beating payrise?
-
According to the business gurus on here, that would bring us to the brink of financial oblivion. Remember this is the Southampton, not the Pompey Way.

Kind of you to round your score up.

Sky Sports - No 'top' players leaving Southampton this summer.

Behave - he delivered a few dangerous balls/setpieces in a very average England under-21 side (technically he'll be 23 in 4 months time). Now he's a top player. -
Agree with most of this - has made significant strides, especially defensively. But for the positions he gets into, his crossing still leaves a lot to be desired.

Redmond's pen looked more central to me.

Was Gary Megson busy?

No idea how managers like Aidy Boothroyd are still in the game. His idea of football is lumping it up to Darius Henderson.

Can you think of many examples where a player has chosen us over another side for those reasons? Its not as if we pay poorly or have attracted players whose profile has raised eyebrows relative to our standing in the footballing hierarchy.

Agree. Does anyone honestly believe Pellegrino was on the club's radar for years and years - as opposed to having one v.good season at Alaves (including an away win at Barca - Les and the black box are suckers for anything Barca-related). He then happened to be out of a job, presenting the club an opportunity (would we have approached him, say, if he was still at the helm of Alaves?). Not saying it is or will be a bad appointment - just that there are too many people looking for a grand, unified theory of everything rather than acknowledging that like life, its a messy, opportunistic, reactive and often short-term business.

Speak for yourself Baldrick. I, on the other hand, have a degree from the University of Life, a diploma from the School of Hard Knocks, and three gold stars from the Kindergarten of Getting the **** Kicked Out of Me.

I recall Buctootim making you look like a fool the last time you went down this path.

I didn't know Labour was taking the fiscal high ground and accusing others of profligacy. #magicmoneytree
