Pardew on hospital visit, supporters & players' social skills!
for_heaven's_Saint replied to NickG's topic in The Saints
I wonder who has the bad social skills?! My money's on Paul Wotton! -
Lol. They are awful aren't they? I've always assumed they must be work experience kids. Also, is it standard journalist practice to include the person's name in the title of the story about them? For example instead of at title of 'Man killed in car crash' then 'John Smith was driving on the M27...' in the first paragraph, the Echo will often write 'John Smith killed in Car Crash', which to me seems very abrupt and unprofessional.
-
I always find it amazing how the Echo can run the same story so many times; they seem to just retype an article multiple times and usually it's hardly news worthy anyway. Articles consistantly have spelling mistakes within them and it's quite clear they're often not proof read. The comments about Lowe in the last article were absolutely pathetic, and i suggest that they issue an apology not only to Mr Cortese but also to the fans. As someone else mentioned earlier, if it wasn't for the Swiss buyout you'd be reporting on Eastleigh at best.

Nice, I'm with London Saints so sure we'll see you around. -
Funnily enough I found myself on a train back from an away game with a load of Macclesfield fans last season and they started singing political songs; killed the mood a little!

Which pub(s) you planning on going to in London Bridge? Market Porter? The new Wheatsheaf was good before the Charlton game. -
Well he did get caught on CTV.

Cheers for the update! 2000 fans would be an excellent turn out for a game so far away and so close to Christmas. -
Everything old Brenda is complaining about exists already! You can already see buildings over the trees- won't matter that we're making it two storeys then. The noise level isn't going to increase, neither are the amount of people there! Apart from during the building process. Think she's submitted her objections a few years too late! She needed to object back in the 'Road Sea' days! Incidentally, whilst the council are obviously obliged to make all objections public, they are surely not under instruction to publish the personal details of the objector? I really hope no one takes it upon themselves to try to find or contact her in anyway- everyone's entitled to their opinions after all.
-
Ah cool cheers, don't really know many of their players tbh! Haven't watched the whole game but from what I've seen he's had to do, he's been dodgy at.

On the subject of Leeds- is that their first team keeper playing tonight? If so, I'm getting more optimistic!

Sounds good to me.

Wind up merchant of the year? How can it go to anyone but Mr Tony Lynam? -
Using the old buy your family something that you want so you can use it trick?! FWIW I'm just getting money towards away games tickets and travel.
-
I think Tranmere will be slightly more attacking than Wycombe were when they came to St Mary's, which should be a good thing for us. 2-0.
-
As far as I understand it you can buy one on a 'pro-rata' basis, whereby you pay for how ever many home games remain at the date of purchase. For example if you were to buy one tomorrow, it would start on Saturday against Tranmere and continue until the last game of the season. Similarly, you could buy one in January, paying less, but getting less games. That's what I've been lead to believe anyway.
-
If we are going to rest the players who are on four yellow cards at the moment, Pardew might as well tell them to deliberately get yellow carded against Tranmere, thus getting the suspension out of the way before Leeds.
-
Too true.
-
Seen him live before- funniest gig ever.
-
Yes I think that sums it up pretty concisely, cheers.

Perhaps you are right, and it may be a little arrogant to expect everyone to speak English all the time. Perhaps if some of the individuals were friendlier when they were speaking English I might not have noticed it as much.
-
Yes in all honesty I'm never really going to do anything about it, just wandered whether other people shared the same opinion as me. Evidently not it seems. It's difficult to explain but I'm talking about like work related stuff- instructions and that, which it may benefit me and others if I could understand- I may be able to help. Ah well.
-
What about all of the other people who speak English and another language? If there are two people who speak English and French, two who speak English and Spanish, two who speak English and Polish etc then surely it would be easier for all if everyone spoke the language that everyone understands?
-
I can assure you that it's nothing to do with insecurity, and I try to talk to everyone as much as possible, but to be perfectly honest a lot of the people there aren't interested in making friends, and I scarcely have the opportunity to talk to them about their language or culture. I'm definitely not closing myself off to other cultures, I have made plenty of friends from numerous different cultures at university, and spoken to them about their languages etc. I agree that i would want to speak English to another Englishman if I were in a foreign country, but I would also try to speak the language of the country when around people who didn't understand English where ever possible. I'm not sure what this is supposed to be implying? I said I do not have a problem with working with people from other cultures, in fact I love finding out about other backgrounds, customs, traditions etc, which I do regularly at uni. I was just suggesting it would be easier and more comfortable for all if there was one language spoken whilst working. After all it is not just me who finds it difficult, I have heard many people from different nationalities say that it makes working difficult if people speak the other language. I didn't start the thread to determine whether I was racist- I'm positive that I am not. But rather whether it is unfair to ask people to refrain from speaking their language just while working with others to make it easier for all. I'm more than happy to accept that you find that 'pathetic', although an explanation may help me see why and perhaps reassess my own situation, but I'd rather not have my name mentioned in the same sentence as that vile piece of scum.
