Yeah, they said that about Lehman Brothers and refused their help at the 11th hour and then cherry picked the best parts of the Lehman's business after they filed for bankruptcy protection. I continue to use the phrase that football will eat itself and many fans who were once forced to go on a 'football diet' as a result of disillusionment, being priced out of the game, recession or whatever will never come back as we are saturated with an oversupply of endless crappy European games, unxcompetitive Premiership matches involving one of the big 4 watching and some seriously over paid players swan around sometime playing a bunch of poor European part timers. There is then the crisis behind the scenes in desperately poor third world countries where shysters masquerading as scouts from the top clubs rob kids and their families of significant sums of money (to them) on the promise of a non-existent contract. Then in this country we have the FA's respect campaign and Parent's code of conduct which is not admitted but borne out of greed as oppose to any desire on the Parent's part to see their son play well and do well. They all want their boy to be the next Theo or Wayne and get the big money without having to 'graft' and in the process ruin the confidence and boyhood experiences of their boys who have 0.001% chance of success if that. I know half a dozen boys who have gone to the Chelsea Academy but how many from their academy have actually made it, and compare that to youth programmes with much lower level leagues? Some of these bigger clubs IMO are ruining our talent but setting unreasonable demands on their young players and ignoring their development by opting to pay megabucks for players like Ballack and Shevchenko? 1 lad I know who was very good chose to walk away from Chelsea because he couldn't cope with the stress - he was 13! Football needs to make huge changes and need to stop talking a good game about the importance of grass roots and actually do something about it. Salary caps or a deferral scheme (post playing pension) and a strict limit on foreign players or a minimum of homegrown players to be played are just a start and we can then tackle ticket pricing the role of TV etc. Good thread and much to discuss.

Did anyone else hear MLT on solent?

What word do you suggest then Toomer for a fellow Saints supporter? You always take the line of the popular opinion on this forum but this forum does not always represent the wider fan base and popular isn't always right. However, taking the popular stance does mean there is less pressure on you to actually think about 'your' opinions and defend your reasons for holding them and to jump or your perceived moral bandwagon to drive out 'scum' like me who dare to be different to challenge what you think is right. Just so you can cosy up with the rest of your comfortable but narrow minded group. I don't wish to be contentious. Far from it and I wish I could post my views and debate them as if I was part of a family working through their differences but as he know this family isn't always that supportive. -

ESB, I was merely commenting on the fact that you or I could have written the paragraph Wild Saint wrote and allege it was 'inside knowledge'. The amount of ITK's on this forum is laughable and using words like 'probably' ridicules his status as a poster with inside knowledge. Hedging his bets somewhat don't you think? Why? Post an opinion by all means but don't add to the number of charlatans who think they are posting secret knowledge because they heard a friend of a friend had possibly heard something on a news bulletin. It's madness. I suggest we wait until some of the proven ITks make a statement or we hear from the horses mouth himself otherwise feeding the rumour mill with probables, rumour and conjecture and dress it up as inside knowledge instead of humble opinion is doing more damage than good. If Wild - Saint is genuinely in the know then please let's here him talk about definitives or explain why there is an element of doubt as the word 'probably' suggests. -
Wotte's job offer, Surman bid, Rasiak to go cheaply

Good point ask Trousers -
It was reported in the Times business section last week when it was confirmed Pinnacle had been granted exclusivity that the club owed HMRC £2m. Don't know if you read the same article but certainly would confirm what you read.

[quote=trousers;321071 HTH Not really, as I am comparing a football manager (an apple) with another football manager (another apple). A different variety maybe (Braeburn vs Granny Smith) but nonetheless an option from the Apple family. In the world of football or to use your analogy, the world of fruit, an uber fan masquerading as footbal chairman could be classed as an orange. Part of the fruit (football) family but definitely not an apple and therefore cannot be compared. HTH -

According to Wild-Saint you need to insert a couple of probably's into your post and ask yourself why would MLT communicate to Wild- Saint's family member that he will probably be chairman. Why not definitely? Why suggest uncertainty? -

Nineteen Canteen replied to niceandfriendly's topic in The Saints
I'll dismiss it as rubbish because I would be concerned given your contact thta MLT is telling him he will 'probably' be chairman. That sort of uncertainty at this stage doesn't bode well and why would MLT communicate it only as 'probably'. Whats the concern? If you know? -
Wotte's job offer, Surman bid, Rasiak to go cheaply
Nineteen Canteen replied to NickG's topic in The Saints
Both managers with low win ratios so using your logic Wotte should be sacked and we should have no complaints over the treatment of Pearson. Wonder how Pearson would have coped with administration at a key time during his tenure and all the anti-board feeling spilling out onto the pitch. I think Wotte conducted himself very professionally in the circumstances and it was interesting drawing a parrallel between the two. Now, tell me, what reason is there for not making this valid comparison? Answer: NOTHING - Unless you're a Pearson luvvie and can't justify supporting him whilst shouting for Wotte's sacking. -
And no doubt a sore throat. Going concerns will always have a bargaining position as oppose to the murky waters of administration. We contributed to our own downfall and helped remove the choice I agree with you on that point and big money doesn't guarantee great appointments. See QPR.

I don't know your contact and I don't know MLT but I could have written your post just based on the consensus of this forum. Let us know when you have some news - I suspect MLT knows if he is going to be chairman by now - wouldn't you? I heard the investor is going to take a minor back seat as it's as meaningless as a major back seat. YOu are not ITK and don't have any contacts. -
Wotte's job offer, Surman bid, Rasiak to go cheaply
Nineteen Canteen replied to NickG's topic in The Saints
Yes i heard you the first time. So we went from 1 win in 8 to 3 wins in 14 which included a nerve jangling scraped 1-0 win over Leicester and the most abject performance ever by a Saints team against a side 4 months earlier we had stuffed 4-0. I'm surprised the FA didn't ditch Capello. Thank God all 3 of our goalkeepers got injured at the same time - a most common occurence in football that allowed us to pay a premiership goalkeeper to quite literally save us and Pearson's undeserved reputation. As I say time will tell unless you can rival Mystic Meg as you seemingly can. -

I hope not. He struggled to win a two horse race and with far stronger financial resources. IMO Saints was to Strachan what Ipswich was to Burley. -

Classic after timing and no doubt you were applauding the merits of Strachan when he was appointed. -
New Owner NOT named at all, really...

Maybe not for David Sullivan. -
Pinnacle were not the only bidders but assuming they were the only acceptable bid we had no choice in the matter as a result of idiots like you championing the cause for Administration. Forgive me if in the cold light of day I don't now choose to follow your failed logic and those who supported your view. In summary your stance was/is: Administration is the only way forward so we can celebrate having no choice in the matter?

Guess? I would suggest that you have summarised the reality of the situation and come to a reasonable conclusion. You have no place on this forum with such reasoned opinions. -
